Type R you can drive it the ground, rebuild the engine and replace everything later, still holds its value 20 years later.

Hey man, Honda service advisor here. I know this is going to sound stupid as hell haha, but some coworkers and I have somewhat found a fix for the crazy Apple CarPlay communication issue. I have a hatch sport touring 6spd myself so we have the same system and it worked for mine too.. so, if you have an apple phone, that’s usually where the issues lie, bc it’s an android unit in the car. If you have a friend or family member that has an android phone, have them connect their phone to android auto in your vehicle, then disconnect it and connect yours. Somehow this causes the communication issue to stop. I’ve seen it work multiple times now, makes zero sense, but it works. Worked for my personal car too. Had a 24 accord come in this week with the exact same issue, and it solved it. Let me know if this works for you!

@@TedwardDrivesHappy I can hopefully help, been a fan of your channel for some years now haha, and I very much so get how annoying it is when the infotainment decides to have a mind of its own. I’ll also say, make sure you’ve got an actual apple cord, that can also cause strange communication issues if it’s a random one from a gas station or something. If neither of those help, I’d take it to the dealer you purchased from, and tell them you’ve tried both of those things already to stop them from saying “well we’ll look at it but do these things first.” There have been a few cases where we had to replace the whole radio unit, under warranty of course. It’s unfortunately a very strange system, in that it works great most of the time, but on the event that it decides that it wants to go nuts, it’s always a situation.

@@SPLITTINIMAGEhey, so I have a 23 civic sport and it does not have wireless apple CarPlay and android auto, and I sometimes experience the same issues with the CarPlay, whether that’s the phone not connecting without me having to unplug it and plug it back in, sometimes multiple times, to the car just not displaying a map untill I physically open the app on my phone. Would there be a similar fix you have for this, or is it just an issue that wired connections have?

It was your ownership update video for your Si that convinced me to go and pick one up myself this year. It was the first vehicle I've ever purchased and I can't begin to tell you just how satisfied I am. From a '03 Ranger w/ an MT to this, feels akin to stepping into an S-class lol. Great video as always, looks like the Type-R is the next endeavor!

you might be the first youtuber i’ve heard talk about the small gas tank because its one of those daily driving annoyances i have with the car. i drive my fk8 around 15k miles per year and its crazy how often im at the gas station. i know its a civic and compact cars have smaller gas tanks but this car is barely compact… it matters less when the regular and si can get 40+mpg. and i don’t think it’s for the purpose of an illusion because the accord has a bigger tank

I love the look of the 11th gen, less riced and looks more of a "sleeper" (which I prefer) , nice video I agree with most of the stuff you said. I have a 2018 Si as my only car, already have 114k miles on it ( I also live in boston area and commute), however its so fun and although I can't afford another more expensive car yet, I feel safe knowing what im driving is similar to a normal civic, the reliability is what attracted me, my last civic had 260k before it had a misfire! I like driving my car, often after work I take the long way and rip backroads, I feel like I shouldn't be scared to do that. Sure they (probably) don't make them as good as they used to, but for now its great. Something else I like to tell myself, it would be great to get really good at driving this car with low power , And years down the road (when I can afford) something more powerful with a manual. Btw no heated seats is a shame, even mine has that 🙁

I am starting to believe I bought the best all-around Honda Civic ever made. 2016, 10th Gen Civic LX, 2.0L with a 6 speed manual. I have owned it over a year, put 35,000 miles on it, and have basically zero complaints. It doesn't use a drop of oil in 7,000 miles and gets over 40mph highway. It averages 37-38mpg on the dash and it's still a blast to drive with 158HP! I also have the same issue with the phone from time to time but it works so often that it has never actually bothered me.

Usually at this point I’m looking at what I can replace it with, but there’s nothing out that ticks all the boxes - amazing handling, manual, family friendly. I will always love the Type R, this is coming from a Elantra N Owner. I wanted one but the markups were just insane for what it is and it defeated the major factor of why people buy this car *affordability*. 80k CAD for a Civic (in my area) is just a clown move and my EN does 85% of what the Type R does. Maybe sometime down the line when the car market and hype dies down, one day I'll trade it in.

But before that i had a 2016 mustang ecoboost manual that was an electrical lemon. And the motor blew at 33k. One time on the highway a ground cable became unhooked and all the dash lihts came on the sync headunit turned off and the headlights dimmed and the electric steering failed. 😅

Love the honest review! Truthfully one of the main reasons I got rid of my Accord Sport 2.0T was because of the glitchy infotainment system. I would get the black screen all the time and CarPlay would disconnect daily. The engine was the absolute best part of that car, which is even more entertaining in the CTR. I now have an Elantra N and although it too has some quirks, it’s been a fantastic daily and has less issues than the Accord did. The GX is solid, you know that Topher had a good experience with his and you get some nice luxury with normally rock solid Toyota engineering. We had a 2011 that we named Betty White cause we figured it would Never die. Well Betty passed and then the trans starting slipping and solenoids went out. Traded it and moved on. Pros to the GX: silky V8 with good power and tq, nice interior, finally they fixed the crap infotainment. Cons: gas mileage, short wheel base can sometimes hurt the ride. I like to experience different vehicles so I probably wouldn’t buy another. But for winter it would have been great to have, btw, I grew up in central NY and lived the snow, our experiences with the GX was TX

I have a separate daily, but if you do the math, it will probably cost you less to keep putting miles on the Civic. Take whatever you would spend carrying the winter car and put it in a simple mutual fund. You will be way ahead of the incremental costs, depreciation, etc. you incur by using the CTR all year. Now, if you want an SUV simply because you want it, then go for it. Just recognize it will probably cost, not save, you money.

Nice, informative review. My 2023 CTR is domiciled here in rural New Mexico above 6,600 feet elevation. Has 1,700 miles on it and 18” all seasons for the winter, including a spare tire. For road trips to metro area (200 miles) and driving in very remote areas I drive my 2022 GX460 which I recommend highly for its reliability and performance. The CTR and the Gx460 are the best combo for my situation, the CTR a joy for local drives to county seat and the Lexus for when the going gets tough. I too, prefer to not subject the Type R to wintry conditions especially when I have the best alternative tool available. Thanks again for fun video.

Great video man! I have an integra type s and have the same issues as you with CarPlay. Sometimes turning the wifi on and off which resets the connection fixes it. Other times I have had to reset the infotainment by holding a few buttons on the head unit. I can’t stop driving it too, I got it September and have 7500 miles already.

my father has owned a 2020 Lexus GX for 3-4 years now. he had been through jeeps, subarus, and the likes, never being satisfied through with the all around product at the end of his lease period. He loved the GX so much he bought it at the end of his lease. He does a lot of driving to and from montreal and connecticut. especially in the winter for ski season and the summer for off-roading. aside from the gas mileage he loves it. especially if you’re going to go for a 2023 model with the updated infotainment it is a really nice rig. the new green color they offered is also super neat looking. best of luck searching tedward! hopefully my comment provided a bit of insight :)

5:25 I dont think its "just a CIVIC". Type R's are double the price of some true daily drivers and more costs more than entry level sports cars. Wished they took extra care of the seat when they took it out.

If I had to guess, the trend toward smaller fuel tanks is so you're not lugging around more fuel, hurting fuel economy. In the case of the Civic, they probably just made the tradeoff since they will make so few Type-Rs in the grand scene of all the the other economical trims.

Do you know friend you mentioned motor oil and using 5/30, I have a CRV that uses 0/20 I lived in New York all my life. I just moved down to South Carolina where it’s always 10° warmer. We have very mild winters usually averages high 40s low 50s in the winter months, I don’t like 0-20 either in the long run. Would it hurt my engine to run 5/30 all year around or do you think I should run 0/20 in the winter and then 5/30 in the spring and summer, what would you do? I’m up for suggestions. I don’t like running 0/20 when it’s 95° out day after day.

My guy Dana Maloney has GREAT TASTE in cars by the way! 🤝 Also why not just get a aftermarket shift-knob that you'd like better? If you go with an SUV also, get what you want of course, but highly recommending something like an outback. A nice mid-size crossover, not something ridiculous, stupid and huge like a Tahoe, or escalade.

The carplay audio problems started in my integra a-spec after an apple update a few months ago. It's not just limited to the car either, sometimes the phone only plays on my watch until I reconect bluetooth. I think those problems are more on the apple side of things than the honda side.

2020 Civic Si from Atlanta GA, Vehicle is great, frustrations from the infotainment center is exactly the same for me. Android and Iphone it doesn't matter what phone, Its the radio. Take it back to the dealer and get it replaced for free if under warranty. But the problem will probably still persist. Or purchase a after market. Pburg. I get up to 52 mpg's and that is with Enjin SRI, HKS BOV, Enjin catback exhaust and Hondata. Great review

The Civic Type R is a great looking and performing car, but maybe because I'm 44 years old now, but I prefer the looks of the Acura Integra Type S mainly because it doesn't have that huge wing on it. I much prefer the lip spoiler on the Integra Type S. The other thing I wish both cars had was AWD. AWD in these cars would really make a huge difference.
@Evolution10X
@Evolution10X 10 ай бұрын
I too am 44 and the wing was a dealbreaker for me. It makes the car look cheaper. This is why I got the si. Plus the extra 25-30K with markup didn’t justify the 100 HP increase. I’ll take the better mpg and more mature styling Dealers in NJ marking up the R by 10-15K.

My 2018 Explorer's sync 3 infotainment system has similar issues with Carplay disconnects, and I have to agree it is really frustrating when you just want your phone to connect. I'm sad Honda couldn't get this worked out. Pretty much any infotainment system I've used that supports Carplay has become exclusively a Carplay screen lol.

I love the car, great video. This might sound harsh. The laggy/inconsistent infotainment in unacceptable. Working "most" of the time is unacceptable. For ~$50k, the screen in my car needs to be on par (if not better) that my smart phone, especially when the two connect to each other. Laggy infotainment may not be a dealbreaker for you, but it is for some of us!

I have the same compulsion! My car is “just a civic” BUT IT MY CAR!! I always try and keep my cars as close to the condition they were in when I got them, and it always pisses both me and the people I’m with off when I get probably a bit too irked if they get crumbs or dirt or scratches all over my car. I have a ‘24 Civic Si, and my friend already scratched the front passenger door getting into it 💀

Did you ever consider the Acura Integra Type S vs this? It seems to me like it's a more livable Type R...more comfortable seats, heated, etc...albeit a bit more expensive. Seems like the Type R is for those who go to tracks. And that rear wing...not sure I'm down with it. However, the Type S seems to be track-able, but more of a daily commuter. Both are excellent and fun to drive I"m sure. And maybe the price difference is too obnoxious. That said, you had an M3, right? I'm leaning towards the Acura, but we'll see. I only have a '22 Civic Sport now, but I love it. I can't imagine a Type R or Type S. So much fun and value for the $...and the reliability of Honda. I've had an Accord and CR-V in the past. I just love Honda's interior, fit, finish, reliability and "livability".
