Impressive use of 6th gear (4 times). No other driver of the stock FL5 has managed that on the Nordschleife with the usual longer gearing they have in 6th. Looks like uprated boost pressure (peaked at 1.83), a 0.3 bar uprate generally, and modified gear program. Will the new variant Type R S have these modifications? Would be great!

I for one am shocked that a professional racing driver got different characteristics out of a car than an accountant/YT vlogger. Also this is the CTR-S edition, as noted in their press release. Similar to what Renault did with the Trophy R, but Honda changed MUCH less than they did from the stock car.
@Chocofur
@Chocofur Жыл бұрын
@@JacobMueller how do you know if they've changed much less if the spec of the car is not even available? Different gearing ratios and turbo boost is not a minor change. Renault didn't change anything in the engine, they've simply removed backs seats, 4 control (which quite a lot of people didn'tt like anyway) and added 2 carbon parts (hood and diffuser). carbon breaks and wheels that were used to break the record are an overkill but you can still get them if you want as an option. Put Cup2R's on Megane and the record will be back at Renault with way more than 0.5s as it stands now for Honda.

Insanely modified that is, this particular model. I've driven the Type R and the front end is very lazy, the car tends to understeer quite a lot. This one is super sharp and oversteers in every corner. Clearly modified suspension compared to stock just for this lap. Not to mention if they sold this setup to the public 99% of people would bin the car the first time they'd drive it above 5/10ths.

The superimposed map of weight transfer shows how good the car performs. Under initial braking the weight is transferred to the front wheels quickly and solidly but more importantly, when he begins to trail brake and put in steering lock at turn in, diagonal weight transfer is great. The outside rear gets weight that is equal to the outside front heading toward the apex, meaning the car is rotating and the driver can hold a consistent lock. The car looks really fun. Even someone like me, not a race driver outside of sim racing, could seemingly drive this car at lower speeds, be challenged a bit, get a thrill and enjoyment without having to worry about being dangerous to anyone around me. I may have to convince the wife to let me buy one of these!

@derbigpr500
@derbigpr500 Жыл бұрын
@Jay They don't have to. Everyone knows the Megane is a superior car, and that Honda cheats by using non-stock cars for setting records. Look how oversteery this car is, how sharp the front end is. The rear wants to step out every time he touches the steering wheel. That's a TOTAL opposite of how this car drives actually, I mean, stock. This is why no driver with a Type R ever gets anywhere near the lap times set by Honda, and Megane RS drivers regularly do so and go even faster.

Misha Charoudin just posted a video explaining how Honda might have cheated on this time. The driver hits 6th gear 4 times (and almost red lines 6th gear) on this lap, which is something a stock FL5 could not do. Honda may have turned up the boost or changed the gearing. Somethings not right here. Im a HUGE fan of Honda but this is quite a letdown if this is all true. They need to address this...

Honda, well done for setting the record lap on that iconic track, but not doing you justice that you never mention the pilot who drove the car in that thrilling manner.

Impressive run, just wish they had done it without cheating. It's unfortunate that Honda was able to convince people this model is superior to the outgoing (Fk8) model in terms of track performance when that simply isn't the case. Seems they were only able to beat their old record by modifying the Fl5 to have a shorter 6th gear and push more boost, otherwise why would they do it in the first place? Further evidence the Fk8 is the superior car.

I don't understand the animosity of some in the comment section. And here's why: For reference, the record set before this one was by the "Renault Megane RS Trophy R" and no one cared when that one “wasn’t stock” and released in limited numbers (about 500) for homologation purposes. Basically to say: "We released this version to the public, so the record stands". Meanwhile, Honda comes out with this Civic Type R “S” (also releases it in limited quantities to the public) and everyone calls it cheating… As far as I’m concerned, Renault started with the “not stock” record. And making this version the stock Type R (as in: the one sold as the ONLY Civic Type R available) would be too bare bones for most buyers to bare with no comfort for the normal road. As it is a race car version with many items/functions of comfort stripped and a different gearing that is not suitable for street driving. So this car broke the record. Renault beat the FK8 Civic Type R's record with their "not stock" car and then were beat by Honda again with this FL5.

Have you noticed that there was none heel and toe or left foot braking action? I wonder now if it's really necessary or is it just showing off...
@samuelgomez3311
@samuelgomez3311 8 ай бұрын
@@institorisinstitoris959This car has an automatic heel toe shifting but is even necesary if not? Depends on the car but on the driver too... Is not obligatory, I would say (but old cars with rear traction is better to use it). When you control the clutch and don't force so much the downshifts, is good enough. The left brake isn't neccesary at all! Some pilots use it cause is an habit for them and it's supposed you are faster with this method and smoother too. In real life is not really necessary. So some pilots use it and others don't and the differences in lap times are often zero

When the driver overcooked a corner, the car understeers. But he can still manage to have more input, the car turns into apex right away. Thats the Type R tradition! Super forgiving!

A few comments flying around the internet about 6th gear being shorter on this car. Hope not.....Also people think the boost may have be turned up for this application - @ 3:44 it reaches 1.83bar. I think that's kind of of grasping straws because the stats say the car runs at 25.2psi which is just over 1.73bar. However, when we factor in it beats the Megane Trophy R by the narrowest of margins, any advantage from the actual production vehicle needs to be taken into consideration. In Hondas, defence, its manufacturing far more than 500 cars so this task of becoming fastest FWD was always going difficult to extremely difficult. I hope its all been done "lawfully" though.....if there is such a thing in the motorsport industry.

" The Civic they used didn’t have airbags, an AC, or electric mirrors. It also had a wider body, higher boost, different gearing, and the oil cooler out of Honda’s Formula One car. Autocar is reporting the Type R used had 385 horsepower. Nissan tested a stock Type R on the Nurburgring three weeks ago and got a time of 7:47. Porsche did the same thing and got 7:46." this is everything that they are accused of
