Stupid if you think about it. 3 cylinders are unreliable needing to add counter weights to the design to even make it last through a warranty when another cylinder could have been had making the power ceiling even higher. It’s 2023 1000whp cars lose on the street today and Toyotas gonna come with a hatch 3 cylinder that looks like a sporty geo metro. Honda is under powered in my opinion as well but but at least you can mod them fit people and doesn’t look like a Gerbil mobile. Idk that’s my thoughts. Not saying it don’t have a place just saying it’s not gonna be winning anything on the street with that motor against anyone that half way serious. Don’t go to the track you will get your ass eaten. Which is funny because gasp racing designed this 🤣. I guess the restrictions are real where they are from.

Just think if it had 3 more cylinders making that exact power x2 with bigger turbos and more exhaust is available to spool stock. The car would be 600hp easy. But they didn’t. Now your power roof and longevity are compromised. Making this basically a bad buy for the car enthusiast and for the average guy who like Toyota and what they represent which is reliability no? Ok, then we have 21years ago, 2002, at $23650... which by inflation, would be $39,951... and that car is no fun compared to the GR Corolla, I've owned mine for 21years, handling absolutely sucks in comparison, and it's over 100hp less. So now the questions are 1. What time would the Moritzo edition do on your track? 2. The GR Corolla or the Yaris, which is faster?
@Vermonstered Жыл бұрын
Morizo times will depend upon 1) if the spring rate is too high for their bumpy /narrow track 2) if the shortened final drive works with their track and 3) if the cup 2's pay off on their surface. Expect up to say a just over a second if it mostly works out on their short track. As for the second question the GR Yaris is faster. No spec implies the GR Corolla will be faster in any performance metric. Has worse power to weight, longer wheel base, more weight to turn/brake/accel, same drivetrain and suspension. The GRC is slower than the GRY.

I noticed at 2:00 you can see a valve open on the center exhaust on the Civic Type R when it is reving, pretty cool detail.
@copperkeyracing6167 Жыл бұрын
If you look closely, they are both having their center valve open and close, but the CTR has the sun reflecting back at you. The GR Corolla is electronic though, so it opens differently than the CTR, which is solely by exhaust pressure and counter weights.

@jayson santiago Oh really!?! I didn't know. Many Type-Rs have had bypass valves, and in the past, they always worked by exhaust pressure and counter weights. I owned a DC5 Type-R exhaust, which I had on my DC5 Type-S, and it's bypass valve worked with exhaust pressure.

The best value for the money is obviously the Hyundai Elantra N. There are many reviews on youtube showcasing this already. But lets not forget about the Golf R, which is just the best daily performer out of all of these cars, for the price. Yes, its interior is junk, and not everyone wants to be seen driving a VW Golf, but its no doubt the best car for the money in terms of performance after the Elantra N. The CTR and GR Corolla are overpriced by a lot! There's are reason why the Golf is the hot hatch that all other hot hatches have built their platforms on...
@setset7966 Жыл бұрын
I just love you ! J and T , You guys make car review fun !
@copperkeyracing6167 Жыл бұрын
6:58 The CTR is not the roll race king, because when we include all the hot hatches... then we also include the Golf R DSG, which is faster in a roll than the CTR, either of them, fk8 or fl5. So, the Golf R DSG is the roll race, and dig race king, the GR Corolla the most fun in any scenario king (in my opinion, due to manual only, and AWD), and the CTR the track king. The Cupra Leon 300 is also faster in a roll than the CTR FK8 or FL5, but we don't get that car in the English&French Speaking part of North America, like GR Yaris (Mexico gets them both)... and that's a Golf R derivative that has the same drivetrain but FWD, anyway.

I'm a fan of this new 3-cylinder. Beyond the GR Yaris and GR Corolla, it would seem this engine is destined for big things as it is currently the platform for building a production hydrogen combustion engine for use in other Toyota products. Hydrogen combustion engines pretty much require turbocharging and strong internals due to the violent combustion of hydrogen gas that requires much larger air volumes to make efficient power. While I hope the engine is efficient enough that a manual transmission is feasible, I think it is more likely to require a hybrid system. Either way, if combustion engine exhaust can be made much cleaner, that is definitely a win. Also, odd-cylinder engines sound sooooo good with the right setup. Toyota is on 🔥
