👋 In todays video we take a look at two midsize trucks! The 2023 Honda Ridgeline and the 2023 Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro! Both of these trucks are fairly similar in price and each have different trims available depending on your budget!
The Honda Ridgeline in truck owners eyes is not considered a "real" truck. It has a unibody construction and is a Honda.... But when you drive one and see what it has to offer and the purpose of the truck, it's not a bad option for someone who isn't necessarily a truck person but needs that bed space and wants something close to the normal style vehicle they already own. It's very comfortable, quiet and smooth and drives just like any other Honda. It also resembles the Honda Pilot/Odyssey, so if you already own a Honda or like the look, now you get the added bed space! It can tow 5K pounds and has a lot of space inside the bed too! The back seat space is ample and it gets good mpg. It's a nice vehicle for the purpose of it!
The Toyota Tacoma has been in the game for decades and is the best selling midsize truck to date! It is built for offroading and with the top trim level, you get crawl control, a manual transmission is available, different bed sizes and cab configurations and a reliable vehicle! The tacoma isn't as comfortable with the solid rear axle, but can tow more and has better offroad capabilities! The tacoma is a great platform for overlanding, camping, offroading or just to daily!
Since I own a Tacoma, it's hard to say I don't enjoy it, I love it and it's the best truck I've owned! Of course these are two completely different trucks, but at a similar price point, I personally couldn't buy the Honda, but both are reliable, dependable and serve a purpose for the buyer!

After test driving many trucks, I ultimately went with the Ridgeline. Throughout life I've owned a mazda mini truck, a Tundra and a Tacoma, I ended up selling them as I finished large home projects when I found them hardly being utilized. Fast foward 10 years, I'm now remodelling my houses, so now I need another pickup. As I got older I realized I wanted more comfort for both me and the passengers and a "quasi" truck for convenience. I feel that I grown up and didnt feel the need on wasting money on modding a bad ass off roader that I will never hardly use. The Ridgeline is a kind of a "jack of all trades master of none" you might say, but i t checks all the boxes that I need.

Just updated from my 2005 Tacoma to a 2023 Ridgeline. Tried the 2023 Tacoma but didn't really like the seats. The Ridgeline is really fun, and coming into the modern world from 2005 was really a trip. I love all the computerized features. The ride is ultra comfortable and quiet. The ability to lie 4'x8' sheets flat was a selling point. For me, the Ridgeline RTL-E was the right choice.

How is the seating comfort/space in the ridgeline? I’m thinking about trading my tacoma for a Ridgeline because the tacoma seats are so uncomfortable/tight and give me knee pain.

@@nealjani8919there’s lots of space. I work at a Honda dealer and I’m head over heels for tacomas. But I was driving a Ridgeline today, and it is very comfortable. Plenty of from for 4 people, the arm rests I absolutely love, the only thing I don’t like is the 5ft bed, I need to haul 10 ft kayaks and I don’t thing that it will cut it. But it’s a very nice vehicle, I am considering getting one, and I’d say drive one, see how you feel about it. Nice sound system, idk about all trims but the black edition I found had speakers in the bed, which sound FAR better than I would’ve expected. Hell I think I just sold myself on it lol

@nealjani8919 Ridgeline has a significantly bigger interior than the Tacoma. It really does have the comfort and drive quality of an SUV. People try to insult the RL by calling it an SUV with a bed, when that's actually a compliment.

@@nealjani8919 I am 6-4, plenty of room - seats are wide, comfortable. Leather option will be stiffer if you prefer that. I sold BMW 5 series GT, which is basically 7 series with a hatchback and it's fairly close in comfort. I got a black edition, which to me is just as luxurious, it's really mind blowing how good Ridgeline is. Tested Tacoma, Colorado, Frontier - Ridgeline was in a league of its own.

I have taken every vehicle I have ever owned off road, cars and trucks. The more off road capable the vehicle just gives you more security off road and where you can go. Even more important is on road snow capability the better off road the better it will do with road snow. I have driven my 4x4 Dodge Ram through snow that was 3-4 feet deep.

@Bros FOURR Speed Almost 50 yrs of being in trucks, in probably the "truckiest" part of the country and 30 years of construction industry. A high % of truck buyers never tow a trailer, and a small percentage of that small percentage tow max loads. And the tacomas 6700 tow rating is a play on numbers. In the real world, in many instances the RL is even more capable at towing.
@BrosFOURRSpeed
@BrosFOURRSpeed Жыл бұрын
@@Resistculturaldecline Ridgeline is rated at 5K so how could it tow more? But either way, people will buy the truck that beat suits them and what they want out of it.
@Resistculturaldecline
@Resistculturaldecline Жыл бұрын
@Bros FOURR Speed Tacoma 4x4 has around 1100lbs payload, some models less. Put two grown men in the truck (400lbs), 100lbs fuel, and a 300cc four wheeler in the bed, now its rated to tow zero pounds because there's no payload left to carry tongue weight. Ridgeline has roughly 50% more payload capacity to play with, in the same scenario allowing it to still tow nearly 3500+lbs. The Tacoma is a bit overrated at its listed max, and the RL is a bit underrated. The honda pilot awd is rated at 5k lbs. The ridgeline had it weight bearing structures increased by around 30% but honda just left it with the same 5k lbs towing. I've been around those two vehicles maxed out, and every other pickup imaginable, the tacoma is absolutely better offroad but carries no actual real world advantage on pavement at all.
@BrosFOURRSpeed
@BrosFOURRSpeed Жыл бұрын
@@Resistculturaldecline Your logic makes no sense, two guys in the truck and a 4wheeler, you can still tow even a 5K pound boat. But if you want to enjoy the Ridgeline great, I personally couldn’t buy one over a Tacoma. I’d take the Tacoma all day. But everyone has a preference and like I said, will buy what works for them.

I sold a 2019 Ridgeline for a 2022 Tacoma. The transmission on the ridgeline sucks, The six speed is junk, the 9 speed is starting to show problems, and its got a timing belt. I towed a 17ft boat with the Ridgeline and the transmission sounded like it was ready to explode and refuses to shift into 6th. Its a comfortable ride but you need to keep in mind its an odyssey with a truck bed not a framed truck. I put 45k on my ridgeline and it just never felt like it shifted right. My wife had a 2019 Passport and her transmission failed at 50k and was replaced under warranty. Google 2022 ridgeline transmission, there are all kinds of problems with the ZF 9 spd (same one in passport). We traded it for a Highlander and got rid of my Ridgeline for a tacoma, I went with the limited so aside from a heated steering wheel, its same same. The Tacoma will last 300k, Ridgeline will not. Buy the best warranty they offer if you are going with the Honda.

I'm 6'3" and I don't use my truck offroad nearly as much as I thought I would. I downsized from a 1500 ram 4x4 off road package to the Honda. Tacoma didn't have enough room, the ride quality was so-so, it was louder. If you need a truck to be a truck and get it stuck deep in the mud, absolutely get a tacoma. If you're rarely taking it off pavement and its for long road trips? Honda all day.

Just depends on what you like and prefer more! I don't offroad as much as I would like too, but still would take the Tacoma over the Honda allay. Also depends on the mods you want to do. No one is lifting a Ridgeline or doing anything to it, so if that's something the buyer wants to go, the Tacoma has a huge following with mods and all!

@@BrosFOURRSpeed check out "JonDZ Adventuring" on KZbin for off-roading mods and capabilities on recent model year Honda Ridgelines and Passport-trail sports. There are a few companies making sliders, 3.5" lifts and body armor. It will never be a rock crawler but it can modified pretty easily and affordably to make it a mild to almost "moderate" off-roader. The stock transmission needs no tweaking. Watch the white Honda Ridgeline in Jon's videos to see what can be done, it is heavily modified with impressive capability for an every day very comfortable driver with good mpg.

It drives smooth as can be, awesome comfortable seats, and a spacious feeling, and what really is cool is that big under bed storage. My left knee had been bothering me pushing off of the running boards of the Titan when i would get in the truck, and now with the Ridgeline, i just step right into the truck. No more knee issue. Hello People. I just went car shopping today Dec. 31 2023. I hope what I have to say helps you all. First off I own a 2021 Honda Ridgeline and my lease is ending and that is why I went shopping. Without dragging you through all the reasoning I would say my wife and I drove a 2023 Tacoma and both preferred the Honda Ridgeline. Now our model only has the 9 speed transmission and the '24 models now come with a 10 speed on the Ridgeline. I almost would say get the 9 speed in my opinion if you want to have some torque because it hardly goes into 9th gear to begin with but they are trying to meet mpg the government wants. Anyhow, the Ridgeline has more comfort in the seats front and back. More space in the back for sure. Rides way better. The Toyota does set higher off the ground better for off road. However the man reviewing in this video has something wrong. You have more seat height to the floor board in the Ridgeline. So your legs can bend more as well as stretch out. The Ridgeline is way more comfortable. However the Toyota does sit higher off the ground just the seats sit very close to the floor. I would go with the Ridgeline all day long. Mine is just a Sport 40k retail. It excels in every way possible except if you are going to do more off roading because the ground clearance. Plus you have a more usable bed with no wheel wells . You can put a full sheet of plywood in it flat down with no issues. Also you have a cool huge trunk built into the bed. My wife and I both agreed the Honda is best for most people. However what did we do? Daddy said he wanted a Ram 1500 with a hemi. LOL lots more money. But honestly we both loved our Ridgeline and may buy again in the future but was ready for a change. I really don't think you can beat a Ridgeline and anyone that tells you it is not a real truck they are wrong. It's a excellent light duty truck that performs like a Honda pilot. Also we loaded the bed up with oven 2,000 pounds plus pulled a trailer with 1,500 pounds and it drove amazing hardly even swatted. I hope this helps some one if so give me a thumbs up.

I own a 2021 Toyota 4Runner SR5 Premium that I absolutely love. The only thing it lacks is hauling bigger items so I wanted to get it a sibling and I was dead set on getting a Tacoma. Unfortunately for months I could not find a Tacoma with everything that I wanted. My wife was also looking for a new vehicle and wanted to look at new Accords. We took a trip to our local Honda dealer to look at Accords and they had a few Ridgelines in the showroom. I never had any interest in the Ridgeline whatsoever. After sitting in the Ridgeline and noticing all of the features it came with I decided to give it a test drive. I was sold. Went ahead and purchased a 2023 Black Edition. I absolutely love it. My opinion, if off roading and cool looks are the two most important things to you then definitely get a Tacoma. As far as daily driving, cab room, hauling, and many other features the Ridgeline is the clear winner. I don’t do any off roading and if I did I still have my 4Runner, so I am 100% satisfied with the Ridgeline. I am so glad my wife wanted to look at Accords otherwise I probably would have never even looked at a Ridgeline. The only problem is now my wife likes it so much she has forgotten about getting an Accord and she wants to drive the Ridgeline daily. I guess since it is not a real truck she will look cooler in it than me. 😂

I bought a 2023 Sport Ridgeline in 6/23. I’ve put 3k miles on it and mainly use it to tow a 3650 lb bass boat. After owning 2 1500 GMC Crew Cab 1994 to 2008 5.7 and a 2008 to 2023 5.3 there was quite an adjustment size wise and performance. NEITHER GMC was 4WD. Both had 17” wheels and rode very smooth with plenty of torque. I like the Ridgeline for the comfort & it’s adequate towing power that meets my need. What I stored in the back of both GMC’s I now store in the trunk in the Ridgeline. It’s enormous. I still have an A.R.E. LSII hard cover ordered. My gas mileage is anywhere from 15-20 mpg. I don’t baby this vehicle & never got anything close to this with either GMC trucks and both had A.R.E. hard covers. I don’t think you’ll be sorry. I wanted cloth & no sliding back window. The whole thing boiled down to price. In 2008 the GMC SLE-1 out the door was $28,800. A comparable GMC from the same dealer was $64,200. I told the sales guy GM priced themselves outa my league. Honda financed 0.9% for up to 24 months. Sold at $41,349.

I tow a small camper (2,900 lbs - Casita). Despite the Taco towing more, the RL is plenty for my needs. Love both trucks. I don’t really off-road other some forest service roads while camping. The RL’s AWD system is more than adequate. Both are amazing trucks (yes, the RL is a truck). The deal breaker for me is the lack of payload for the Taco TRD Pro. I would bet it is not much more than 1,000 lbs while the RL has a payload of about 1500 lbs or so. Given all the above and the other comforts and conveniences of the RL, I would choose the Honda. Great and HONEST Reviews!!!! Last year we wanted to downsize from Silverado and get out of lease! Wanted a Taco or Ridgeline but the WEF wouldn't let us get one without begging! Long story short ended up with a CRV AWD. Amazing cargo and just been perfect! I look at a Taco and my heart skips a beat but after having the AWD and never having to worry about destroying my transfer case I don't think i'll ever give that up if the WEF ever allows us normal people to buy what we want without begging and selling everything we used to own. Was going for RAV4 FIRST but Page Toyota in Michigan was gouging $2K over msrp. Genthe Honda was at sticker without a single dealer added option!! I maintain my vehicles perfectly and now that I have the CVT I love it and have already changed my fluid. Easier than an oil change! Beware new Traditional Trans, Checking fluid levels in trans is complicated, not so with the cvt! Well done guys!

I wouldn't regurgitate the "minivan" frame line so many reviewers like to throw out as it's false and shows little actual research was done. The Ridgeline has what's called a closed box ladder frame that is unibody but it shares less than 10% overlap between the Ridgeline frame and that of the Pilot or Odyssey. The Ridgeline also has an outlet as well as speakers in the bed. Just looking at the video you can see how Toyota has somehow managed to make their entire lineup feel cramped. That's why they lack any sort of headroom and a wide range of seat adjustability. It's also why their interiors seem so dark (tinted windows don't help). I can also not understate the luxury of full time awd vs. full time rwd with brief switches to 4x4 when needed. I am however glad to see Toyota, like Honda, putting their safety systems on more trim levels, which is why they cost more than something like the Maverick which you can get for 20k as front wheel drive only and not a lick of safety equipment.

Can’t go wrong either way. If you want something comfortable to drive that handles light truck duties, Ridgeline is great. If you want something you can customize and build you an off road truck or overland, a Taco is the way to go. I’ve owned both. Both are pretty bullet proof. Toyota probably has less maintenance cost in the long run. I currently have a Ridgeline, because I have a Bronco for off road stuff. Plus the Toyota are just so popular, hard to find a good used one. Ridgeline seems like the logical choice. Anyone who wants to do any serious off-roading will get an ATV and a ridgeline will get an ATV to any trail head you would want to go to, and be more comfortable/practical while doing it. A lot of auto manufacturers cant get out of their own way... incl. Honda. No one under 45 yrs old is gonna buy a Ridgeline as long as it looks like a sedate "gentlemans truck." It's been an overly conservative, self-limiting strategy. All they had to do for the last 8+ years was lift it a couple inches and build it with wider fenders and a more aggressive hood/grill - instant market share boost and credibility in the segment. Once youre in the Ridgeline, the drivng experience is far superior to the Tacoma... except for aggressive off road driving... a capability only about 10% of truck owners need. Free tip Honda... Make it look more like a Tacoma... and it will start selling more like a Tacoma

The Ridgeline Payload rating is higher than thatTRD PRO so Ridgeline with passengers can carry more. Many always focus on Towing numbers and not Payload numbers. That RTL-E Ridgeline also has Truck Bed Audio System. It has exciters behind Truck Bed walls. Speakers. When pushed on information screen speakers turn off inside cabin. The Bed speakers will play. When you start driving 9mph I think They will shut off.

It would be nice if the Dept of Motor Vehicles considered the Ridgeline a Minivan just like the Bros FOUR Speed wise guy does, it would be a lot cheaper to register it. Just because it doesn't have a full body frame it doesn't mean it's not capable. That bell housing on the Taco drags lower than any part on the Ridgeline.

Needless to say, bought the Ridge. ZERO regrets.

@BrosFOURRSpeed I have to agree that Tacoma is a great truck, but Ridgeline is very capable. This is something that you insinuated in your conclusion. Tacoma is more capable off-road. Driving in the mountains, I'll take the AWD all day long. How much off-roading does the average Tacoma drive actually do? If you own a ranch or farm, definitely go with Tacoma. If you use your truck for everyday driving and less than 1500lb payloads in the mountains, then go with Ridgeline. I would have enjoyed the video more if it wasn't as biased.
