Great video, pal. Gonna check out those books and your thoughts are really inspiring in this, especially your goals at the end. Have commented in another video of yours that you really are the most inspirational photo youtubers to me. Your style, images and content on here really speak to me. Have only just bought a X100V as my EDC so I don't have to lug my big full frames and massive lenses around and thankfully, it brought me to your channel. You recipes were the first I locked in and not all of them have always worked or fit with my style but three of them remain and I love working with them. Same with your presets, great to be able to try them for free. I've never paid for presets, so it was great to use them when editing images with a new system. In the end, I've adapted my own ones to work but your advice and the base was still so useful. Keep up the great work, really pleased to be growing and learning with you. Really want to be able to support you in any way I can, if you're ever thinking of doing your own book, I would be first in line to buy.

10:50 “learn how to not rely on color to hold my photographs up” what an amazing thought man. Literally lightbulb went off in my head. I absolutely use color to hold my photographs up.. definitely something I’m working on now that you said that. What an awesome thought. Thanks man! Hope you have a happy and healthy 2024. I look forward to your videos. 🤙🏼

Do you have any suggestions on videos or channels that give black and white photography tips/education?
@EddyMaynard
@EddyMaynard 8 ай бұрын
I definitely do too! Ill ignore things like composition and substance in the photos if the colours look nice, which is fine mostly! but I definitely would love to take away that crutch. Regarding suggestions, this was the video that really inspired me kzbin.info/www/bejne/hp3bhmWNfrp1gMU&pp=ygUYYmxhY2sgYW5kIHdoaXRlIHNpc3N5IGx1 I would also recommend looking at the work of Greg Williams, Alan Schaller, and checking out Tatiana Hoppers KZbin channel since she puts out some really great videos about classic photographers (mainly shooting black and white)

Thanks a lot for the Info man. Iv been filling Greg Williams for a while now but actually paused your video to buy his book and it’s awesome. Great recommendation, thanks again for your time.

Man, I used to love Gregory Crewdson back in Uni, totally forgot about him until this video, definitely going to have to pick up a couple of his books now. New to the channel but love the content!

You're bang on about using photo books as inspiration, just seeing things digitally can just start to wash over you, it feels more real and tangible when its in a book
@EddyMaynard
@EddyMaynard 8 ай бұрын
Yes absolutely! I feel like I don't even really take it in anymore, and its so easy to swipe to the next thing that's completely different in every day, your brain doesn't have time to process it all. Whereas photobooks are the total opposite!

I love Gregory Crewdson's work. My local arts center actually had a show by him years ago. His pieces are gigantic. About six feet on the long end, if I remember correctly. It's the best way to see his work, if you ever get the chance.

That's awesome! ive heard that before actually, about appreciating them more when you see them in real life since theyre massive. What I will say is that the print quality of that book in particular is AMAZING, it was like seeing an Apple Retina display on the iPhone 4 for the first time hahaha. So sharp and so much detail!

My goals for 2024 are to print more of my own work but also live in the moment not just photograph them
@EddyMaynard

Printing more is a solid goal! I just wish it wasn't so expensive haha

I live more in the moment, see more and experience more when I have a camera with me. I found printing pretty cheap. Make a photobook is expensive but printing digital images is cheap.

Love it. Happy new year. (Also a GFX and X100 guy). I have my dad’s OG black paint X100, I shoot it exclusively in monochrome and only use the OVF. Kind of turns it into an old film camera, of sorts. With the 20% Cinebloom it’s brilliant.

That's awesome! Im definitely going to shoot more mono in 2024. Love how well the original x100 holds up after so long, truly great cameras. Happy new year! and thank you for supporting the channel

Love the videos Eddy! Found your channel this year through IG and been following along with the X100V content, inspired me to get out and use my X100F more often but also made me want the V more and more haha!

Thanks so much! Really appreciate that! The V is great, but the act of just getting out and taking photos is better than any camera specs 😁 Hope you have a great 2024, and thanks for following along!
