Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, and thanks for all the support and education! 🌲🎁🎅 Spotify question; We all know if your track is less than 1,000 streams Spotify will steal from you, and give it to people with >1,000 streams. Next question: Let's say your track gets >1,000 streams. Okay, they don't take your money, but does any of it get redirected to the little guy with 1,005 streams? Or does all of the reallocated $$$ go to big-time artists? (I suspect the latter...)

The “stolen” Spotify royalties are redirected to all royalty earning tracks proportionate to their volume of streams. So technically your 1,005 streams are eligible for their pro rata distribution. In practice most indie artists will be too small to see any $$, and the bulk will go to the majors.

Thank you, Tony. I missed just one thing: downloads. That's how I buy my music. (Hate Spotify and will not support them.) I download onto an external hard drive and two backups, and I can play everything from Music (the Apple program). Certainly cdbaby did not discontinue the download option-or did they?

CD Baby shut down their store several years ago, so you can't buy downloads from them directly. However, they do still distribute files to stores that sell downloads.
