I DJ (more as a hobby these days) funk, groovy soundtracks, Latin grooves, psych jazz and a jazzy hip hop. I do this all on vinyl as I love to cue and manipulate the record on my old Technics 1210s and people love to see it. However, I wouldn’t bother buying vinyl for rock or country or folk or any other genre I only listen to and do not DJ with.

I have a great idea don't let Spotify play your music. This is definitely crooked. The amount of energy and time to take from one artist & give it to another artist would seem to be the same as leaving it with the one who earned it. We should put pressure on people like Taylor Swift because this makes her a thief also. You know when someone tells me something is free and if I have to pay even one penny for shipping then I tell them it's not free and they can keep it!

The attraction of an LP record, is similar to the attraction old European, whimsical classic cars have for collectors. There is a greater sense of thrill when the car or motorcycle, which requires special handling and care, finally delivers its ride. Same with the LP, it delivers the sound. Why not just play CDs as they last forever, never wear out, are convenient and deliver far superior dynamics? Probably because there is little involvement in the process of playing one. An LP requires your attention as the play time is about 20-25 minutes while a CD you can play the full 80 minutes as background music. I collect both, and love them equally, but there are more variants of the sound in an LP than from a CD. I believe suitcase record players are crap and that people who are into vinyl should make an effort to buy the best components they can afford, but not to the ridiculous ends I see with turntables costing more than a house, a toneram as much as a car, and a cartridge as much as a motorcycle. I've been to HiFi shows and though the equipment is impressive, I don't think the marginal improvement in playing a record is worth cracking my 401K or mortgaging my house.

Hello! As to my mind CD sounds rather better than LP when the original recording is digital (at 95%), and it makes no sense to buy vinyl in this case. It can be just a whim and a tribute to fashion. Another thing with completely analog high quality original high fidelity recording when the vinyl has the meaning: it can sound no better or worse than the CD - just differently but great equally. But I don`t know what a recording studio do completely analog high quality original high fidelity recordings and who is from musicians make the albums this way nowadays.

THANK YOU, TONY!!! This is great insight and also what the record labels used to do. I would like to add that the plan should include which band member will be in charge of which social media platform, posting schedules et al. In this way, all of the work is delegated and one person isn't doing all of the work alone.

Totally agree about the need for an outstanding cover design. I used them to to the design layout (using art I had already chosen/licensed) for my first two albums, and they did a fantastic job, with a quick turnaround.

I like the white cinder block half and the Venetian blind half in your video production design. Like a metaphorical background structure depicting modern alienation and the domination of the bureaucratic institution in our collective life-world.

Haha thanks. You spent way too much time studying and interpreting the background instead of listening to the message. 😂😂😂

@@tonyvv I have zero interest in the "message." :-) Your production choices reveal more than you might think. That's where the meaning lies, if there is one.

You all missed the boat. If the CD mastering engineer did not do his job properly, and if the vinyl cutting engineer did a great job, then vinyl absolutely can sound better. The technical differences are moot in this case. The hard part is finding a good pressing in good condition. So vinyl can sound better, but you have to buy both and compare. The people who sell vinyl know this, so expect to pay $40 to $100 for an excellent pressing in excellent condition.

With regards to publishing splits Im kinda thinking this video isnt relevant in todays music making world. Thinks have moved on a little since a song/compostion was just a guitar/keyboard and a singer.

Yes, cd is better, but only if mastered to cd best/audiophile standards not loudness war standards. It's been amazing to watch the music industry destroy itself over the past 30 years. All they cared about was their pockets jingling, not quality. Now they have neither.

No vinyl can't sound better than cd but sounds different because of the sampling technology .Yes I like the sound of vinyl but my CDs sound way better .Especially after the 10th play

Answer: sometimes yes, sometimes no. It's all up to the engineering. Some CDs are mastered badly - some are great. This was always true of vinyl as well, and still remains true. Technically, CDs can offer much better signal-to-noise ratios, but you may still end up with a disc that sounds like perfect garbage. The real difference for me between vinyl and CD is in the actual playing of the disc. Playing a vinyl record involves physical interaction with physical objects - there is real magic in actually SEEING the music being produced by a needle in a groove. With CDs or streaming digital, you see nothing. You must - generally - ATTEND to a vinyl record on a turntable; you must flip it over to hear the whole thing; it requires a physical act on the listener's part. There is a magic to vinyl that is utterly different to digital media. You can even _smell_ it.

I asked Gemini to look at your video and tell me iwhat you were talking about and if you made any mistakes.. It said you were spot on.. I also know this to be the case about the sound quality. cd however breaks down in quality the higher in frequency you go, it should do very well with low frequencies, and cause of its dynamic range it should be easier to process sound from a CD than from an LP.. However since the grooves on a LP are visibly analog , its likely that at a very slow speed the vinyl will hold up. if read by a head that uses light instead of a physical head, to read the grooves.. The CD’s grooves if reproduced exactly on a LP would display a visible moire effect cause the samples would show up jagged on sharp rises in the amplitude. This is from my laser physicist father, he said, when he was alive, that he could determine the quality of a CD by how many rainbows were visible from a light source, it determined the density of the etching.

most of the music I listen to was recorded to the tapes in 50s and 60s and back in a day dynamic range of those recordings was limited, as far as floor noise of the vinyl it all depends on cartridge/stylus used to play records and phono stage, my Hana Umami Blue with combination of fully balanced Ayre phono stage does wonders and noise level and groove noise I call it is almost none existent

Hey everyone! I commented recently on the above video as to why I believe analog, and in this case vinyl , sounds better than digital, in this case CD . Less fatigue, more air, better 3-dimensionality, etc. However, some may take issue, which is cool. I am basing my comments on having been a musician and audiophile for over half a century. I also believe this- Opinions are like pennies; everybody has one and they usually ain't worth much. However one prefers to listen is a personal choice- just enjoy it!

@@nicksterj Yet Everyone CAN hear the difference between a properly setup vinyl system vs a $100k digital one! Sound is smooth like a circle. Can’t be chopped up into 44.1k pieces n rejoined n expect to be the same. 22 divide by 7 will always be infinite. Digital is pie to the 44.1k decimal points…. We average humans Can hear the differences. The brain is a miraculous thing. It can pickup the tiniest, absolute tiniest bits of information/sounds and at the same time it can be easily fooled! This is not limited to hearing but in vision as well..!! I looked into both subjects, the uniqueness of human vision, hearing i.e sight and sound and the human brain. Philips and Sony decided to chop sound/music into 44.1k pieces based on science and storage of data etc. They forgot about the uniqueness and the ability of the human brain to pickup the tiniest of variations! The brain is a miracle of human evolution. I’m no vinyl lover. It’s so easy inconvenient. But once that needle hits the groove, everyone and I mean everyone can hear the immediate difference. The human brain is a miracle of human evolution. It can pickup sound differences when it’s chopped up into 44.1k pieces, much like pie is infinite n not limited to 44.1k decimal points… Yes there is a difference. Yes it sounds better and more realistic. End of story and debate.

I want to say again how happy I am with the work your company did on my first CD. I told the Design Team I have been getting your magazines for years and I recently seen the work that you all do on your website. I give them basic information and just said the name of the CD is Bob's Garage so I wanted a picture of a garage that looks like some one painted a picture of a garage and I had faith in them. The first time they knocked it out of the park. I wouldn't change one thing. THANK YOU.

I used to be an analogue aficionado; I had a good analogue setup, and over 4000 records. I had to give up the LP's and I've never looked back; kept the CD's and will never give them up. I am amused at the resurgence of (ridiculously over-priced!) vinyl, often, as you say, played on quite cheap players. No thanks. CD's are now comparatively cheap, they are easily available new and used and often sound great. What more do you need?!
