For anyone having issues with the heat just disable boost processor power mode in the power plan settings if its not visble you'll need to activate it in registry app its very easy make sure to leave processor power minimum when plugged in to 100% and processor power at maximum when plugged in and on computer to 100% hope its helps.

For the Spiderman game, are you limiting your refresh rate to 60hz? could explain the 1% lows after turning on V-Sync and testing in external monitor. Appreciate if you could try in the Laptop screen's native resolutions (1200p or 1600p) and let us know.

And some titles if you don’t enable FPS limiting, then the CPU and possibly the GPU will run at full performance. In a limited frame like a laptop, this will result in excessive heat. Excessive heat will cause throttling, which leads to bad Lows I found that in many games, and especially prevalent in Spider-Man, you are better off limiting your FPS to 60 or 70. This will prevent overheating, and ensure much smoother frames. I also find the same in Hogwarts legacy

Best hint I can give you is to watch the reviews of the Desktop 4060ti (HUB and GamersNexus) which is basically the same card as the mobile 4070. You will get an idea of why its so bad, and how the 128 bit memory bus for crippled memory bandwidth, in conjunction with its debilitating 8gb of vram which hamstrings it significantly at 1440p (and even 1080 ultra on multiple games). Then you might understand why the bottleneck will almost always be the mobile 4070 which is not on par with the Zen 4 7745Hx (which is basically equivalent to the desktop Zen 4 7700 non X). This video by Jarrod'sTech will also shed some light on how and why the 4050/4060/4070 are gimped even if they claim they can go over 100w (like this Legion model which claims an imaginary "140w", meanwhile it will almost never reach 100w)- kzbin.info/www/bejne/oH6wo5tshdV_f5Y .

Not sure about fps but overall the cpu is quite powerful. The issue is you are looking at extreme fps in a 1600p screen. Seems like you’d want a lower res screen

hello friends, I want to ask and if I may get a recommendation too, it's better to choose legion 5 pro with i9 +Rtx 4060 or R7745hx +rtx 4070(because the price in my country is very same) behind that I sometimes do 3d animation (architecture) using Autocad, Lumion etc. but sometimes I like to play competitively on Apex Legends and maybe some other AAA games, thank you for your time, really hope you can answer my comment :)

Hi, what do you consider is the better config : 7945hx with rtx4060 or 7745hx with rtx4070 ? I have this configs in my wishlist but i cant decide... the 7945 seems much better but idk how it behaves in games and day to day basis, due to it being base 2.5 ghz. on the other hand 4070 seems as well like a good deal but feels like the tgp won't let it perform as good as i think it could.

I am a bit concerned. God of War ran with around 70 fps on this laptop and the reccommended specs for this game on steam are a 1060. Yes, you are on ultra settings, but is it that much higher then the reccomended ones? I am currently looking for a laptop on which Starfield will run with at least 60 fps on high settings.

7745hx is designed to run very hot: it will boost up to like 95 and stay there. Totally different than other chips. Hard to compare. In games the 7745hx is superior. In efficiency the 8845hs is better. Either is good but if inner to choose I’d take the 8845hs for the vastly superior battery life

your low gpu usage on minecraft rtx was being caused by not turning off vsync for the game and that is why your performance was so low you have to either download a rtx pack that has the setting or you have to turn it off in the options.txt file and nvidia control panel.

These CPUs are much more power hungry and powerful than last years cpu offering. Also the 4060 doesn’t need high wattages. 3000 series nvidia scales with watts. The 4060 and 4070 don’t need to be over 100 watts. It’s pointless. They are vastly more efficient

85-93 is completely fine for a gaming laptop, the rzyen cpus have a temp limit of 105 so that is like 20 degrees below actually dangerous and it will never hit that because of software.

Yeah, but I think once it crosses like 45-50W, most of these chips including top of the line HX chips run ~90℃. I think it is a given these days. They are designed to run at those temps (supposedly safe) without thermal throttling. Only problem though is that the CPU's thermal paste would dry up faster at those temps. So, yeah you might need to re-paste in about a year or so depending on usage.

The unit is not defective, contrary to popular misplaced beliefs, these AMD chips actually do run hot at those wattages. needs liquid metal, PTM cannot deal with the high thermal density here.

@@TechGuyBeau may just be be me but the us link sends me to a 4060, after i do the “customize laptop” or whatever it says and choose the 7745HX+4070+32gb ram +1tb ssd it comes out to like $1580 with like $400-500 off something like that. but i found it either on amazon or walmart for $1300 but is the 7745HX, 4070, 32gb 1tb ssd one on sale from $2000

This dragon range lineup from AMD intentionally runs at maximum temperature all the time. It’s a bit of a weird thing to wrap our heads around but it doesn’t need to run cool

Really shouldn't be a warning for VRAM when the XBOX is running this at 4k on shared memory, and this has a discrete GPU plus system memory. Probably would get even more performance hooked up to an external 1440p monitor as well

Legions have a MUX switch. As such, connecting one to an external monitor won't give you extra performance.

The Phoenix range offering is better in my opinion. The 7840HS. It performs incredibly well, only sips power, and runs very cool. It’s the best CPU of 2023 in my opinion for a laptop use

Dude, what kind of food regime did you run the tests in? I see a maximum of up to 100 watts on the graphics card. That's a hell of a low consumption. CPU power priority is typical for quiet and balanced mode.

If you pay attention to the CPU usage as well, and especially temperatures that will explain why. These systems are equipped with a smart shift technology where it will flip power between the two chips CPU and GPU. If one is getting too hot and getting blasted it will migrate energy to the other. So in this case you can see that the CPU is rather hot and being taxed in some games, so the GPU is not going to go out fullbore at risk of overheating the entire system. I suspect that this same set up in a legion seven would perform better, since it has a vapour chamber and superior Cooling

@@TechGuyBeau No. This is a crappy algorithm. All these AI technologies work very poorly. It is necessary to turn on the forced discrete graphics in the red power mode. Be sure to lift the back of the laptop for a better breath. AMD processors are always more difficult to remove heat due to the smaller size of the crystal. I have already crossed the 10-year milestone of using only laptops. I have two Legions, including Legion 7 2021 (5900 and 3080) So I know what I'm talking about.

@@mrinferno4876 dedicated graphics only enabled. Laptop raised up on a laptop stand (see my precious video). I also know what I’m taking about You can watch my precious video where I filmed externally. I am on dGPU only, more than adequate airflow to the laptop. It’s a hot cpu.

@@TechGuyBeau It's not about the processor, it's about the algorithm. Do you see 140-150 watts on the graphics card? And I don't see it. So it's not working properly. Perhaps with BIOS updates this will be fixed.

@@mrinferno4876 This is well known problem. 4050, 4060 and 4070 are all locked at 1 volt. U cant do anything about that. I saw a lot of review and not a single preson was able to max it out in games. Even Jarrod starts to using Furmark for temperature comparison because he couldnt max out the gpu otherwise.

7745 runs hot yeah. But luckily balanced mode only drops performance by like 10% get your noise drops by like 80%

Dynamic wattage between cpu and gpu. Also the 4070 doesn’t need 140 watts. It performs basically at 100% at 100-105. That’s the main benefit of the 4060/70. We don’t need absurd wattages anymore

@@yevheniibatiievskyidifferent architecture. You don’t need or benefit from going over 100 watts on the 4060/70. The 4080 needs high wattage. Totally different chip design. 60/70 are meant for more mobile, thinner and lower temperature laptops. 80/90 are best in thick boy laptops. Not sure what a 4070ti would be like

Insufficiency vram. 8gb is not enough for 1440/1600p. Not by a long shot. In older games yes, but going forward if you want to play at 1440 you need 12gb +. Memory bandwidth can also be a culprit. This is a nice 1080 max laptop, or 1440 medium settings. Otherwise get a 6850m xt, 3080, or 4080 laptop
