I know its a harder methodology, but I wish those tests would do a real life video editing workflow. Exporting =/= editing. Exporting time are way less crucial than transcoding, timeline fluidity, multicam editing, grading performance, etc.

The Mac Studio form factor is just about perfect. My M1 Max base model is the best mac I've ever owned and I've owned many, starting with the $5,500 Mac IIcx system I bought in 1990 (to be more precise, what my parents bought for me). Macs have always been overpriced, as shown by what I paid in 1990, but at least now they are reasonably priced.

I agree at the end giving Apple a try in general. I was a life long windows user but have owned iPhones since the 3GS. I finally gave apple a try after the m2 air came out and it was their no questions asked returned policy that gave me the confidence. No regrets a year later, my favourite computer I’ve ever owned

I've been a life long Windows user as well, but have used iPhones and iPads and iPods since they were released. My 12 year old Windows Dell XPS was pimped out at the time with SSD and GPU upgrades, but now that Windows is moving to Windows 11 and telling me my computer is not welcome I'm making the move to an M2 Max with 64G RAM and 1TB storage (+ 4TB Sandisk pro with Thunderbolt 4 external storage). I guess I will find out shortly what I think of MacOS on a computer. Also moving from a 12 year old commercial grade 2K 27" monitor to the 32" 6K Dell (which I found for the same price as the 5K Studio Display 27"). The benefit of waiting so long between upgrades is when one finally spends a ton of money to do the upgrade one actually ends up with a significantly better user experience for the money.

I said it when they announced the updated Mac Pro: The Mac Studio is the Mac Apple has always wanted to make, but they could not do it due to the limitations of Intel/AMD/Nvidia. It is probably the biggest improvement we've seen in the last 20 years of computing.

Helpful video. I have been holding off purchasing a Mac Mini M1 upgrade but it really makes most sense for me to go with the Mac Studio M2 Max 1 TB for $2399 now since we won't be seeing a M3 Mac Studio until late 2025 and I would not be getting it till 2026. So, for a 3-year upgrade till 2026 for me I will go with the M2 Max Mac Studio now.

I would love to see the Mac Pro Ultra compared to the latest Intel and Nvidia offerings instead of it being compared to 4 to 5-year-old Intel technology. I can't help but feel you got ripped off with your Intel Mac Pro. You could upgrade that blingy PC with an RTX 4090, an Intel 13900K, and 64 GB of DDR 5 and see if the Ultra blows it away. Heck, those upgrades will cost you less than $4000 USD. With the extra money you save, you can buy some cheap SSDs or more DDR RAM. It's only $169 at Newegg to add another 64 Gb of RAM or $100 for a 2 TB SSD. After all your benchmarking, you can download a AAA game and have fun with that new PC.

It's becoming apparent that the 2019 Mac Pro is still the fastest Mac at high end graphics operations when it's equipped with an RX 6900 XT, 6950, or a W6800 duo (There's a reason why Apple's benchmarks are against an RX 5700 XT). It's a small group of people that utilize this configuration to be sure, but they are out there.

I've been using the base model M2 Max Mac Studio for over a month now and boy it is incredible. Zero complaints so far and even the SSD looks very fast to me. I'm coming from older Windows laptops that are much slower so I don't see those drops in transfer speed that happened from M1 to M2. For me, this is faster than anything I've ever used. Also, something I noticed, I use 1080p monitors with this machine and for some reason the display looks so much better with this machine than with my Windows laptop and I don't know why or how. I thought since they are 1080p monitors anyway then everything will be the same, but the display really looks so much better with my Mac Studio. I'm also amazed by how fast you can login when you're wearing your Apple Watch since this is my first time doing this. I'm in love! ❤

Interesting comment about the video quality. I used to notice this years ago, and I think it was just the quality of the video output/hardware. But, I wouldn't expect it any longer in a PC with an AMD/Nvidia via HDMI. I wonder if it is something else... like just the quality/refinement of MacOS vs Windows? My son is getting one in a week or so, so I'm going to enjoy helping set it up and doing some testing. I'm holding out for the M3, I think, but this form-factor and capability (while being silent, and adequately cooled) is what I've been wanting all my computing life.
@CampusMania
@CampusMania Жыл бұрын
@@SteveW928 I'm using the same HDMI cables and the same monitors that I have been using with my Windows laptop and still the quality with the Mac Studio is so much better. I don't think it's just because the MacOS looks better since this is a very relative thing (for some people macOS may look better and for some other people Windows may look better). Maybe the reason is because the HDMI port on the M2 Mac Studio is version 2.1 and the back USB-C ports are thunderbolt 4 (although my Windows laptop also has thunderbolt 4 ports). Maybe there are different grades of thunderbolt 4 or something (not sure though).

If you have one, just try to work with videos those are longer than 10 min videos to edit and see what happens. Apple changed my MacStudio but the same problem still exits. They have collected the info from it and I'm waiting for their answer. Like a joke but not. Apple made me upset. I paid Apple a lot of money to get my work done, but it has failed me for over a month. (They didn't even send a replacement computer) How can I trust Apple like ancient anymore?

Macbooks are the only worthwhile macs... The desktop macs are a waste of money, because you could get a much better system building it yourself, you would spend less money and more than anything most graphical instensive program are much more optimized for Nvidia graphics than metal (especially Blender and other 3d programs) Macs absolutely win on laptop side both in performance and battery... intel/amd laptops are way behind, and Apple has proved the future of computers will be on ARM. But as of now it makes much more sense to save money and build a Windows Pc, if you don't absolutely have to use MacOs (which in my opinion is superior but no so much to justify the price) or you pay too much on electricity bills because of the higher consumes of x86 and gpu.

I totally agree. I have an iPad for my mobile computing needs and a PC for my desktop. I think PCs make even more sense when you run Linux. You avoid everything about Windows that people hate, but can run almost all the window games I want through Lutris and Proton (Steam). Retro gaming is excellent in Linux. Most productivity apps are availability in Linux, as well. While I think the form factor for the Studio is pretty cool, I like having a system that I built and feels like mine and not Apple’s.

Great video. I'm planning on scooping up the M2 Studio Max. Would you be able to tell me if it can handle or slice through Cinema DNG Raw files with a a powergrade and denoising? Your opinion on its configuration would be greatly appreciated. I'm currently editing a feature length film shot on 1080, 2k, and 4k DNG raw, on an old Mac Pro.

possible. m3 is said to be a much bigger upgrade compared to m2 . the m2 is already much faster than m1 as shown in the video if the m3 is supposed to be a bigger and more efficient upgrade then its most likely going to be a monster in power. but we cant be hundred percent sure so i suggest u wait till the iphones and ipads come out with 3nm chip design which will give us a better idea of what to expect from a hypothetical m3 max macbook

I still don't understand why Apple can't compete with PCs in 3D rendering, it's something super important nowadays, they should focus more on this aspect, however this Mac Studio is a beast for most tasks !

It's not so much rendering as a whole, depending on how one thinks of it, but lack of certain hardware like raytracing on certain forms of rendering. This means in 3D software, the viewports might not be as fast in certain modes, or for certain situations/uses. Or, certain rendering engines that rely on the GPU won't be as fast. Other 'rendering' aspects might be as fast or faster... for example an engine that uses primarily CPU. Viewport display can also be dependent on things like scene size/complexity, which maybe this architecture will be great at (I've seen some modeling/CAD stuff that flies with insane amounts of geometry). But, for a lot of standard 3D app stuff as it currently exists - optimized for AMD/Nvidia - those machines are going to be quite a bit faster for particular things... and you can even build PCs with multiple of those cards. Apple has nothing to really compete right now, unfortunately. We're just going to have to wait and see if we're in those fields... or possibly run a PC too, if we have those particular needs.

@@SteveW928Good observation. My question is how well can Architectural softwares like Twinmotion, Vray, Rhinoceros, Lumion, Blender and Enscape work on Mac even if one have to use the likes of parallel

@@michaelraimi1377 I think you'd have to research each one independently. I'm not sure if every app like will even work via Parallels. I was pleasantly surprised to see Revit worked, and worked relatively well. Some of those you'd probably be better off running the Mac version (which I think are available for a few of those). The Parallels solution is more if you can't get a Mac version and *have* to use a particular piece of software. Otherwise, it would probably be best just to find a Mac-oriented solution that gives similar outputs. There are several of Mac-centric CAD & 3D packages. But, if you have to use a particular one for school, employer, or particular project/client, it is nice to know there are a growing number of solutions.

$6,000 for a computer that I could build on the PC end for $3,000 or even less? That Apple tax stings. My i9 13900k, 128GB of Ram, and RTX-4090 PC literally cost me $3,100. The M2 Ultra that even comes close to that performance is $6,000.
