For me personally, i love the newer spawn figures. I am having a lot of fun with the line. Also I dont mind spending some extra time painting in detail, and doing some washes and dry brushing.

The old mcfarlane Spawn figues still hold up to date. But these are cool though even if it doesn't compare. It's like mcfarlane is telling you to buy it and customize it further yourself.

Also he's been a dad and man who sees having his IP be appreciated by everyone. Being able to play with action figures is fun. Adult collectors support the market but most of us got the toy bug because we played with our toys. Bonus medieval spawn could probably tumble off a shelf a couple times and not be too worse off. @@stevewegling8070 no don't get me wrong it's great these figures are more articulated but it's the detail and more art that's missing from these compared to the older 90s early 2000s lines. I guess as an adult collector now and as a collector since the 90s it's easier to see and know the differences. Thanks

@@ryansingh449 As a fellow collector who collected Todd Toys back- in-the day I get the observation on paint and the art side. His factory and studios churned out some of the best made. Check out Mythic Legions (Four Horsemen)for some of his company's previous artists at work. No worries.

Sculpt > Paint job. You can always costumize the paint job. If McFarlane offered fancier and more detailed paint apps he would have to increase the price, and that would hurt sales which would result in fewer releases.

While I agree with you and will definitely repaint mine, the issue is that McFarlane have always been known for their sculpts AND crazy detailed paint. It’s frustrating now but I also have to remind myself that this is the way it is now.

While the lack of paint does indeed suck, the sculpts are there and that’s what matters most to me. I customize all my Spawn figures (add more paint, washes, real chains, etc) so I’m not so bothered by lack of paint if it keeps the price down. Speaking of price, I’ve learned to wait for sales on all the mega figs…seems they all come down significantly after a few months. My BIGGEST gripe with McFarlane figures are the damn gummy weapons. They always bend over time and it just kills the overall display when you’re freaking sword is bent!! He needs to make them the same sturdy plastic as the weapons sets.

Thank you for this great and very honest review. I totally agree with you that spawn figures are more toys and less collectibles now. Sculpts are still quite good but to your point, those paint apps are lacking… especially when compared to the older figs. Still amazing figs and I can’t wait to get them and then totally repaint them. LOL

I have all but two of those including the three new ones coming. Huge Spawn fan here and king spider was in only one book shortly (and was an ANT enemy) and Omega. Just couldn't bring myself to buy him being so little in size. I agree with everything you said especially about Medieval. Was loving that it's a Bjorn Barends until I saw them legs. Such a missed opportunity. Maybe there will be a second release with more paint. Thank you for your videos!

I can see Monolith with white highlights on the "M" ,armbands , fingernails yeah needs a little paint. And Medieval Spawn needs a ton of paint

I absolutely agree about the paint not being enough but you also have to understand the old figures are statues these are actually articulated action figures that's why I personally like them more cuz I can move and people do add paint to them if you want to and they look absolutely amazing the sculpt is always great on Todds figures.

I'm definitely picking up medieval spawn, and I think he'll look badass next to the recently released gladiator batman. and yeah, the new $50 price tag for mega figs is ridiculous, I haven't seen one of them that's worth that price point, though it does seem to be limited to spawn mega figs as the DC mega figs are still being primarily sold at around $35-40.

The sculpting of both figures as always are top notch but the paint we need a paint wash or paint shadding on theses spawn figures like back in the day some parts make them look to plasticly and cheap like the medieval spawn needs a paint wash specially on the silver armor parts

Shiz please take the time to show the articulation and the full range of the joints. What's the rush? I have a Medieval Spawn PO for 19.99. I think it's good value. Would love to see a premium variant with a a different head, weapons and a better paint job. Of course there's still the possibility of the Kickstarter Medieval Spawn... that is, if Todd hasn't forgotten about it!

The paint doesn't really bother me because of all the unique sculpts we're getting. For that matter the accessories too. If these were the reuse of the same base body with the details only painted on, yeah I'd demand more paint. But the sculpt, size, price point. There a couple engineering and articulation decisions that could be way better. But overall hard to argue with the value proposition and what Todd is giving use compared to basically anyone. NECA is usually more expensive and less durable, Hasbro is hasbro, Jada Toys might be a contender but they're smaller.

When I see these two I wish THQ would get off their asses and get McFarlane to pump out Darksiders figures. It may not have been a massive hit but the designs from Joe Madureira were incredible and clearly up McFarlane's alley. Not to mention the designs would 100% fit with the Spawn universe... War, Death, Fury, and Strife could easily slip as the horsemen themselves or as "Angels". While this may have sounded totally off topic, take a look at Darksider trauma demons compared to Monolith. Its really not hard to see it something like that coming from McFarlane toys these days. Also I I never get tired of seeing ML Angela tossed in with Spawn stuff. Its a shame we haven't gotten a retool of the Death Metal Wonder Woman as Angela yet.

The old Spawn figures had more paint sure but they but we have to consider back then it was a lot cheaper to manufacture and especially paint them. Not to mention they were basically statues. I much rather have the new figures with a little less paint but with better sculpt and articulation compared to the old ones.

Ideally sculpt and paint is nice. But if i had to pick one i would rather they go all out on new sculpts. Makes them feel more unique and fun to buy. Compared to marvel legends which for the post part feels like im buying the same figure over and over again. But what does suck is that medieval spawn looks less metallic on the final product

Really missing some paint apps but the sculpt is still there... God i miss seeing the real metal chains we used to get. I still think that Todd should offer a new classification of his figure but with more added paint application with a slightly higher price range that would cover the cost of added paint pass. I guess Todd is really forcing us the become action figure customizers

I really wonder if McFarland purposely left out paint in areas for customizers and even just collectors to paint what they desire. I’m sure he had budget in mind but I’m wondering if that was more of the focus? What do any of you think?

But to some others who enjoy painting and creating there own scheme it’s really favorable. You never know for sure from the imagination of the Godfather. Cryin is def not going to make him paint every unit to your liking that WE do know. Stay positive

Medieval Spawn looks okay but very unfinished. No idea why they didn't at least paint the boots red. It being only 25 dollars isn't really a good reason, look at Jada Toys Street Fighter or Marvel Select. I'm glad this line exists and usually it's Todd's better figures, but this one is just alright.

Acrylic usually works best as it has a little bit of flex to it.

@@mksolid82 we haven’t gotten an update of the kickstarter yet but I won’t run on assumptions. If anything the idea of the kickstarter is to get figures that don’t have a huge market more directly to the buyer. If this sells . I’m sure he’ll push the kickstarter through. Knowing Todd theirs probably a reason this looks so plain. To make the kickstarter version feel even more premium.
