Im a honda guy and definitely the transmission play a big game over here! Was thinking to do a dsg transmission swap! But i went to awd word and still wish i went dsg! Vw underrates their cars. I own a mk8 r and it was closer to 330 stock. Got an ic intake and a tune from apr and it scoots. Can't wait for the tcu tune.

Geez. I love my 7.5 R. The Integra and Civic were growing on me but now this new R has re-gained my interest again. I wish they would come out with Spektrum for this generation. Was not expecting that much of a performance difference between the two. That Golf R kept pulling.

I agree even though he would still lose pretty badly. You can see the race with the hit and he drops off more that a car length between his shifts. Some people are terrible at trying to race compared to spirted driving by themselves

Good video. You don’t have as much drivetrain loss as you think though. The golf disengages wheels when they aren’t needed. The DSG was your biggest advantage. Manual V manual youd both be losing momentum between shifts and have a closer race. Keep the vids coming 👍🏼

Love my mk8 golf R, civic definitely looks really cool and a little flashier, but held back in performance by only being a stick shift. Also the golf R has more like 340 hp (on the dyno) stock rather than 315. Its performance is under stated by vw. I get people love their manuals and its cool that they're still being made but you gotta accept you're just not gonna be as quick as equivalent dsgs and 8sp torque converters and such, they just shift way faster than people can.

Until I started doing exotic car tours and they went from half the cars being manuals to no cars being manuals because Ferrari and Lamborghini stop making them. No one cared including myself, we all had a Blast. Most of the people who sign up for the tours own manual cars and they get out of the cars smiling from ear to ear.

But all I’m gonna say is if you run without Octane Learning, it’ll only peak at 15psi instead of the 20psi that Hyundai actually rated it at(40whp difference for some N cars). So you’ll definitely win against one that hasn’t OL but if it does have it it’ll be a closer race than this for sure

I think Vdub under rates their power. I have a GTI 6 manual with a stage 2 Unitronics and a type R, so both are a bit over 300 hp but the GTI will walk away easily from a roll. The type R feels stronger in just normal driving for some reason. The GTI gets 33 mpg and the R gets maybe 27 on a good day.

The R runs more power than the type R. All of the R in the UK pretty much synonym 340bhp mark. Plus dsg advantage. Type r will never stand a chance

No they are about the same in a Dyno but AWD and dsg together all s a huge advantage in the straights not so much in the track Twisties though. Because of the weight auto upshifting when you don't want and less human control.

Yeah, the manual has 15 less torque and can't be launched hard without cutting power while the DSG launches hard every time without missing a beat. You're right, the manual should've been upgraded years ago but they cheaped out knowing North America wouldn't care what it is. They are just happy the manual is an option.

man, i tought it would be closer, its just the shift thats leting him down, you can shift that type r faster, i think you can flat foot shift that thing, all tho dont think you can, all i can say if both of them were manual it would have been even closer, theres not that much in it to be honest, just the manual gearbox is what lets the type r down, but then again, thats the whole reason to get the type r is that engaging driving on a backroad, thats why it was a beast around the green hell, im sure you know what i mean, im sure on track the type r would win hands down, both cars look stuning, type r would be an epic track toy, golf r would be a perfect daily.

It's a guy in Europe who takes his FL5 to different tracks for laps times and post the content on KZbin. His dad owns a Golf R MK8, so he post lap times on it, too. The Civic Type R is consistently faster but the gap is much smaller than you would think considering the Civic has better tires and he's driving his Dad's car vs his own, so he might not be taking as many chances. It's obvious the Civic is a Track Weapon, but considering the Golf R is just a great all rounder with all the creature comforts it's hard to beat.

The FL5 Type R looks so much better than the FK8. People really underestimate how fast the Golf GTI/ R’s are. Yes, the Type R is the better track car. However, the other 98% of the time you aren’t on the track, the Golf is still king. Love both cars though and would be happy to own both. 👍🏾

Depending on temp and if this was all after his single runs the type r was pulling timing and loosing a good bit of power. Cant really say much about the dct definitely helps. I would have bought a new golf r over a fl5 except i couldnt get passed the multiple screen you need to go through just to adjust the climate control. Love the dash setup on the golf r. Just wish they gave and actaul knob and not a touch screen interface.

Because the MK7 has already proven to be extremely reliable since 2014. VW's are no longer unreliable. A MK7 will long outlast a WRX.
