Driver is everything... MK 8 GTI Doesnt stand a chance against 8R either way, but launching the gti is killing it! Try no launch and ease into the accelerator while in ESC Sport not totally off in 1st gear, it will allow for more traction that way. As for a roll race pick up your reaction time I own a MK8 GTI it's an awesome vehicle

While the 80hp and awd make a significant difference, a driver mod would help from a dig. Hard to mess up a roll other than starting early or late. Which he did. R still wins but this guy in the GTI is not a driver. These cars differ by almost a second and a half (13.9 vs 12.5). This driver makes it look like 2 seconds. I'm APR Stg 1 93 with no other mods on stock Goodyear AS and run about 13.0-13.2 from a dig with a perfect launch. Not sure how a roll would go but based on my experience pretty damn close. Stage 1 93 from anyone (APR, Uni, 034) is a mid to upper 12 sec car but because of fwd most guys are hitting 13.0-13.1. Stg 2 guys (full bolt) on are about 12.8-13.0

No disrespect to the Golf R but I prefer the lighter feel of the GTI and great value that the base model presents. The R is much faster but you risk your license every time you let her go, unless you have access to mostly deserted roads. Both are good options though.

It’s quick but it’s certainly not fast enough to feel like you’re gonna lose your license lol. It’s 315hp after all. But yes, I agree, if R is too much, the base GTI is the way to go. After all, I had one before the R lol

❤ I have owned many cars. Much faster than the R. The issue starts right at the value proposition and feeling like a point and shoot AWD luxury car with power. The GTI gives the "work at it" factor. Had a full BO E30 Fiesta ST and the car was fun! Yet not as livable day to day but the GTI has the best of all worlds. I also had a Audi Supercharged 3.0T Full BO with tuned ZF8 AWD always predictable push the pedal down and go. Very similar to an automatic Golf R. Sure it was heavy but their wasn't much difference after test driving the golf r. FWD no sunroof and a manual is more "engaged" in a gti. Just needs a manual ebrake in my MK8 then all set. 🎉

I have been thinking 🤔 a lot about getting mk8 but don’t know if I should stay with mk7.5 because it’s paid for yet the new drivability is worth it I think but still need to test drive it out 1st 😊

Both cars are beautiful Gti and Golf R ..but Golf R its a different level of horsepower stock vs stock Golf R all day long..GTI MK8 fast enough to beat, wrx, civic si and stock v6 cars out there 😂😂 good race 💪💪

Against the Wrong gti the stock CS the result is the other way round rolling from 30/40/60 even 100mph plus

I think it would be a close run against him tuned. Also to all saying he jumped the start the GTI is impossible to launch. It’s FWD vs a AWD idk what you all expected. Roll races also. There is like a 9-10 mph trap difference so it doesn’t matter

One more factor helps the R in acceleration, the gearing is shorter than those in the GTI, obviously because the R has AWD so no wheel spin with shorter gears.

so true. I had a mk8 Gti for two weeks dealer that wouldn’t budge on price called me to offer a deal on the R. I literally drove / owned them back to back. gearing is soooo different . Was happy with the Gti but happier with the R

I have a stage 1 300 hp 400tq mk8 gti and against a stock R it’s a wash on a 60 roll, lower rolls, the gti spins and the R jumps ahead and stays ahead. Get my R in a few days because Canada 🥶
