It all depends on price if I will get my first dGPU-computer this year. I have tried for 2.5 years but prices have been unacceptable. They still are. For a desktop, prices should fall by about -€150 RTX 4070TI, -€50 DDR5, -€50 mainboard. A reasonably priced RTX 4070 might convince me if and only if its speed is that of RTX 3080/10GB. For a notebook with 4080+ Laptop, most MSRPs are astronomic but if, as usual, prices fall significantly after 1.5 to 3 months or sales occur, I might buy. It also depends on the details of every notebook model - I avoid unwanted aspects and might choose a desktop instead. For a mini PC, it might be sufficient if one with a Laptop RTX 4000 GPU appears rather soon at all (instead of almost 2 years too late, as was usual) and without any Intel/Minisforum skull design, as has been unavoidable for RTX 3000.

Still love the XPS 17 but surprised by the lack of information about a refresh or updates that the XPS line will receive in 2023. Would like to know whether Dell will install a 1080 webcam for instance. Also keeping any eye on Parallels with Visual Studio as the M2 MacBook 16 appeals to me also.

I was hoping that the release of these new laptops would drop the prices of older laptops but what I'm finding is that last year's laptops are at the same price while this year's are at least 50% more expensive. The reason they moved everything to the side is the heat is sent out the back and if you ran their old models for extended periods of time on performance it destroyed the ports. The power port especially.

Good review I think the 4080 versions will be the sweet spot as in the current high inflation economies both there in Europe and here in the states if one were to wait a few months before purchasing the prices will drop as I cannot fathom not just ASUS but all manufacturers will find it hard pressed to sell their inventories in this current market.

That is the 4080 version, it's the AD103 dye which is the same as the 4080. That's why alienware hasn't released their 4090. They're probably still working on it

Just ordered one after days of watching reviews. I was leaning towards the Alienware M18 as I had the 2080ti equivalent of that a few years ago, but seems that’s been suffering from thermal throttling. This seems pretty awesome!

Yeah, this generation of Scar has absolutely fantastic cooling that's relatively quiet during gaming. I mean, with that much heatsink in it, you'd pretty much expect the cooling to be great. I actually like the plastic construction, as it makes the laptop quite portable for how powerful it is, and it still feels like high quality product. I have the 16-inch version, but the 18-inch should be relatively the same apart from size.

@@TankMAIN877 I was all in for the M18, but the thermals was just enough for me to look at the competition. Frankly I think you’re right, and even if it’s impacting all of them, it’s not a big deal until you want to over clock. But actually I’m glad I went for the scar instead now. The keyboard is actually really nice to use, and the trackpad is superior, but the things I didn’t think I cared about, turns out are more important after all. The size and weight of the scar are seriously so much better, it’s crazy. It’s still a beast, but it’s seriously no hassle moving it around, compared to my old Alienware. The rgb is also far superior. Not a big deal for sure, but it’s enough for you to go wow, a few times, but the neat thing is, turn them off and it’s a tidy corporate looking thing that you can take anywhere. Beyond that, the cooling of it is super clever and the overclocking software superior. It’s just an impressive bit of kit. So at the end of the day, I’m happy I went for the scar. I don’t feel like I’m missing anything from the Alienware personally.

As always with gaming laptops, the 'best' comes at a very high price. The question of how much performance do you really need when older models are still very capable comes to mind. It always has been and always will be about finding that sweet spot of performance to price.

If the 4080 in laptops manages to get close to 4090, the Strix G18 could be a better buy... It's just less flashy. I think the only 18-inch miniLED screen 40x0 device "released" at CES is Acer's new Predator Helios 18... this might be a better buy provided it is available and priced competitively. But this thing from Asus costs quite a lot more than the previous gen and yet it's not coming with higher speed RAM, just 4800MT/s, in most regions it's offered with just 2x16GB options without the 2x32GB this cost should entail, the storage is organised as a 2x1TB in most regions, without a 2x2TB let alone 2x4TB that was an option in some regions last gen... and this dual drive setup is done through RAID0, so a bit less safe in the long term than the competition that uses 2TB drives instead of a pair of ones... though, of course, the array gives the performance boost as well... Still, at this price point, in a laptop 4090 setup, one would expect at least 64GB memory config with 5600MT/s or more and 2x2TB RAID0 if they want to provide array of devices from the get-go.

I have this machine been using a couple of months and all honesty there is no coil whine when just idling or browsing the web or whatever the only time there’s coil whine is when gaming however regardless of that you can’t hear it when you have a headset on or even when using the speakers you still don’t really hear the whine over powering anything so the takeaway is there’s coil whine but not enough to be intrusive Then the screen is really really impressive I don’t think there’s much loss from the mini LED I haven’t seen any screen bleed at all. So if you asking if you should get one I say you should you won’t be let down!

3 x misinformation. 1. The 18 does NOT have a Nebula HDR display the HDR part of the name indicates Mini LED panel.. 18 has ROG Nebula display the 16 has the option of Nebula HDR display. 2. the 16 does not top out with the 4080, there is a 4090 option. 3. At 1:09 you list the specs for the 4090 laptop GPU having 24GB of VRAM, it doesn't, it only has 16GB..

You should probably do some fact checking before posting your videos... "Nebula HDR screen" means the MiniLED option for the Scar 16. Also, the Scar 16 can also get rtx 4090's, so it doesn't "top out" with the 4080.

Should pack it in Aluminion/Metal, even if it's 1.5 kg heavier. One thing that's making the numpad working difficult - the acer nitro models have the same 'issue' - the 0 is small and does not span under the 1 and 2. So thumb-clicking is difficult and one should get used to middle finger action.

I have same laptop 32.0 GB ram edition. Tested ton of games, only had problems with Star Citizen which is poorly optimized, on max setting 4k resolution it could run only on 50+ fps... Rest games runs minimum on 120+ fps. I only have 2 problems, but I think it is most of from software. Sometimes it makes static noises on battery and GPU switching system is not really good. At the end it is superb laptop, the sound is awesome, it even have bases, screen is nice. Build quality is very nice. I think it is best option for people who travel a lot.

I bought the Titan GT77 HX 13V and it constantly crashed on me - Changed it for a new one - same thing! So disappointed, because it had everything I needed. Windows could not load my profile, Programs crashed, Reinstalled so many times to start fresh, I got nothing accomplished. I'm getting rid of the second Titan and am going to try the ROG Strix SCAR 18 G834. My son has the one step down from this one and he has had no issues.

Keep up the good work 10/10 for the video. This laptop is my top choice but there is one more option, Eluktronics mech 17 with liquid cooling. Asus is a bit better and nicer looking, but coal whine is a bit of worrying they say it might even go worse over time and Eluktronics has better cooling with the liquid cooler, what do you think? One thing that continues to grind my gears about the Strix line of laptops is the absence of front facing speakers. Zephyrus gets all the ear candy and TUF laptops are supposed to be cheap while MSI figured out the correct speaker direction along with a physical numpad in their large Raiders a while ago. A missed opportunity for either of the new Scars.

a bit late, but the scar 16 and 18 have front facing "tweeters" this year, which really is all that matters since most of the details in the upper mid-range and treble are more audible, while the regular speakers on the bottom bounce the rest of the frequency range off a surface to amplify the sound around you.

Something is wrong with those Cinebench scores. My GT77 gets 27.5K if I disable 8 e cores so 16 cores total, and 33K (all stock no undervolt) out of the box. The Scar 18 in CPU only mode should be doing much better than 25K. Edit, your timespy makes no sense either, mine is 22.1. The reason I say this is because with Jarrod's testing, the Scar 18 easily matched the GT77, so something is amiss. You definitely had it in the highest performance mode?

I have two questions: - do this laptop has one M.2 port connected directly to CPU to get PCIe 5.0 support ? - the second question - can I replace DDR5 4800 for 6000 and the mainboard will run the XMP memory profile ? I bought the 16". Can't wait receiving it...arrival date is 20th of Feb...I choosed the 16" for the smaller size and better screen, though I hope cooling won't be worse as they packed the same stuff in a smaller chassis...We will see. Do you know if the 2x1Tb mirror raid 0 can be configured to have 2Tb of SSD? Not sure 1TB will be enough given the size of the games today :( that s pretty much the only point I hesitated when I compared it with the MSI, which comes packed with 64GB and 2TB SSD...but an even higher price tag :(

This series should be called ROG Flamingo or ROG Macaw. Although I've been a PC person for the last 30+ years, I believe that when PC technology gets close to what Apple has been doing, like fanless designs, then we could call a series ROG Strix. I've been hoping for a jump to RISC for Windows and its entire ecosystem, maybe RISC-V will do the trick. A side benefit is that it will also help to _reduce_ world energy consumption.

Nice video, I just bought the Asus Rog Strix 17se (i9 12950hx and rtx3080ti and 32gb ddr5) 2 months ago I am so sad because of the very high temperature of the cpu when playing games, up to 100*C and of course the cpu reduces the frequency, I have in my 3DMark results from the first day I bought it, it was score CPU 16K and GPU 14K and now only CPU 13K, gpu itself. Check the CPU vent and the fan is clean. Anyone else had the Asus Rog Strix 17se and can run 3DMark to check the total score? thanks The Tech Chap nice video comparison

So the argument in my head about this is this: 4090 Laptop is by default about 35-40% slower than its desktop counterpart, but performs toe-to-toe with a desktop 4080 & in some cases better than a desktop 4070 Ti. But adding DLSS 3 + Frame Gen COULD make it performs much closer (if not the same) as the undervolted (if not default) desktop 4090. However Frame Gen isn't widely available yet. I kinda wished Nvidia called it the 4080 instead to avoid purist's comments such as "laptop GPU is a scam" lol. But hey, marketing am I right lol.

You are wrong mate, RTX 4090 laptop uses same GPU as desktop 4080, with SLOWER Vram, SLOWER cpu, How can this beat Desktop 4080. It performs near as Desktop 800$ 4070Ti. 8:01 , 25-35% IMPROVEMENT OVER LAST GEN 3080TI laptop, so slower than 4070ti. Normally flagship laptops started at 2000$ previously, now its over 4000$. 100% increase in price. But you get FAKE FRAME GEN, though. Greatest achievement, Now my fps go BRRRRRR..... You also get extra display,keyboard,speaker,charger,webcam,battery,rgb,trackpad,extra two fans,build in wifi card.ram,ssd.
