The Corolla might not be Toyota's best-selling car anymore, but the latest model is still an incredibly efficient and affordable car. The 2023 Toyota Corolla Hybrid now offers all-wheel drive (AWD) on multiple trims, and it can deliver up to 50 mpg in combined driving. With a new and improved infotainment interface and a long-standing reputation for reliability, is this 2023 Corolla a better buy than the 2023 Hyundai Elantra Hybrid? Or maybe you'd rather purchase a new Toyota Prius, instead.

Prius is gorgeous.. $43,000 Canadian I put a deposit on the 2024 Corolla Hybrid SE AWD. $35,000 Canadian I wonder if I should have chosen the 2024 Corolla Hybrid LE AWD $33,000 Canadian I could have saved $2,160 when comparing SE vs. LE MSRP. Too bad I'm not flush with cash. If I were - I'd splurge for the Prius with .5L/100km better fuel efficiency.

I just bought the Corolla hybrid 2 months ago, the base LE model, it is superb. I have owned three Priuses in the past, this one handles much better, I average 50 to 60 miles per gallon in the city. This is definitely a car to keep for the long run and it's not that bad to drive, pretty fun

I just bought a 2023 Toyota Corolla LE hybrid several weeks ago (June of 2023). On the first tank of gas I babied it for break in and got over 60 mpg. 😅. My last five years I had been driving the Toyota Avalon. For my first 600 miles I have been very impressed with this car. The seating is very comfortable and it handles much better than I expected. I bought the Corolla for its efficiency and reliability and I’m a happy owner.

You can compare it to the Elantra all day and call it bland. Difference is, this thing will still work and be on it’s original power train in 15 - 20 years. Which is more than can be said of Elantras of the past. This will also hold its resale value better and has a much better hybrid system than anything else on the market. No brainer for me. Toyota all day.

Last May I helped my daughter purchase a car. She was going to get a USED car but I warned her that used cars were way over priced at that time. (As we ALL remember) So I chipped in some money and simply told her it is cheaper to purchase a NEW car then a USED car. I also said we need to get her a Toyota Corolla. So we ordered an LE Corolla with NO Packages on it. It came out to be $22K and change for a new 2022 FWD LE Corolla. We only had to wait one month for it too. Ordering a Hybrid of any model you can wait up to a year at least. She loves the car and of course the Hybrid Corolla would get better over all gas mileage however, the gas-only Corolla gets 38mpg over all. That is still very good.

The roadnoise can be mitigated by getting 17" wheels with 1 to 2" meatier tires. The thin walled tires are just too ...thin... road noise and bumps are amplified compared to normal tires, and bigger potholes can damage the alloy rims.

Well I have never forgotten about the Corolla since it was one of the two vehicles I learned to drive on. Mom's 3 speed automatic 1984 4 door Corolla sedan and Dad's 1977 Dodge full-time 4wd 4 speed manual Power Wagon Snow-Commander. With snow tires the Corolla was a beast in the snow ! I even had it up to 110 mph on a trip to the Finger Lakes once, or at least that's what the speedometer was showing. If I could have one of them new now between the Power Wagon and the Corolla I'd take the Corolla because it never broke down were as the Dodge was a Chrysler product and broke down on a regular basis.

We have to have a higher ground clearance for our area. We get 4-5 feet of snow every winter and live on a private road that we have to plow and maintain ourselves. The Corolla is too small for us. We had a Camry but it was too low to the ground. We looked at a Venza (and LOVED it) and the Rav. Our insurance would have gone up by $1K per year for the Venza and $700 for the RAV4. We opted for the Outback which is $300 more per year. The Outback and the Forester achieved the highest IIHS safety Plus rating for its class. The Corolla also has this safety rating. I bought a 78 Corolla in 83. It had 70K miles on it, (it was my grandma’s commuter car). It became my college car. It was a bare bones. 4cyl, 4spd manual, vinyl seats and flooring, AM radio. After college I had student loans so I kept driving my 2dr Corolla. After my loans were paid off I started saving money for a down payment for my first house. After buying my house, I simply wanted to see how long that Corolla would last. It finally dropped dead at a Whopping 488K miles in 02, which is when I bought my Camry. We drove that until 21 and bought our Outback for my wife’s birthday. We bought a Forester Touring for me last year.

The Corolla Hybrid - I was worried about it with what I "suspected" was at some point the Corolla replacement that never was - morphed and was made into the NEW PRIUS, which looks exactly like that - making the Corolla Hybrid kind of the "heritage model" in contrast. BUT there is a huge price difference - with the new Prius being, well they said to secure $50,000 in monies one way or the other and you should be able to get into one taxes and all baring severe dealer mark ups. That would be AWD here and pretty deluxe contenting as they said 90% will be that. However, suddenly the old Corolla hybrid that now offers AWD is looking not that bad of an option as you can actually still make the argument that I am not spending and extra $20,000 to save $6000 on fuel "maybe, if I drive and have it long enough to get paid back for those upfront costs. It makes for a tempting package.

One problem with my 2023 Corolla hybrid is the fancy headlights. In the center area directly in front of you are two shadows that stick down into the lit part. The first time I drove the car at night while turning, it literally looked like an animal running across the street directly in front of the car. I jammed on my brakes so I would not hit it. Only to realize it was a defect in the headlight array. My dealer said to me that the lights are not adjustable so just get used to it. Maybe they will fix it in the future. The real problem will be the day an actual animal is running across my path and I ignore it and hit it. This is a real safety problem with this headlight design and get used to it is not a proper response.
