That looked like modern mortar that can destroy old bricks. I hope the masons tested the original stuff to make sure they got the same formula. This was a hard lesson for me to learn.

My Grandparent's home was a converted schoolhouse. There were 8 children and 25 of us grandchildren. Lots of good memories.

I absolutely enjoy watching the series of this. We had a school in Beaumont, Texas, called Central Medical Magnet High School, that had closed down due to major damage(flooding, mold) from hurricane harvey. Very historic & has many of the old-time features. Now, only the newer portion/addition of the school is used, but the main building is condemned. There have been talks about the property being bulldozed or maybe even for sale? Seeing videos like yours is very inspirational and good-use. Wishing the best of luck with the future home!

I hope you have solar and a heat pump, and every available energy conservation way to heat that monster, geothermal or something, I would NOT WANT THE energy bill for that building or to have to pay taxes on it, inless you make it into a housing complex, or Artists Lofts, to make an income from it

The building looks like a wonderful place to make a home. However, I have never understood why someone would spend all that time and money on something so close to a busy road.

There's a school house like this in my hometown and I really wanted to buy it but figured they'd want my left arm and leg. Turns out the guy that did buy it only paid 7k. 7 thousand dollars for my dream... smh
