Awesome video! Had my 10 for 3years and almost 50000kms. Zero issues, best bike I've ever had. I sorted both the seating position and lighter front end by getting a kit that lowered the handlebars by ~5cm, it did wonders to my feeling on the bike. Thinking about getting the new SP cos of the updated electronics, up and down QS (only have up now) and Ohlins suspension. Just chuck an exhaust system on it, heated grips, some crash protectors from R&G and call it a day for at least the next 10 years.
@mathias6423 Жыл бұрын
You sorted the seating position by lowering the handlebars around 5 cm, but how did that make the front end lighter ? And also how did you lower the handle bars ? There is no way to lower them that I could find except to change out for another handlebar or did you lower it in some kind of way with how it is mounted to the suspension ? I have heard someone else mention that before but It was not something that Yamaha could help me with at my dealer and it sounded kind of complicated. I would get the new standard MT-10 if it was not so damn ugly and I could lower the bars or something to get a more sporty riding position because it is just to straight up as it is and the riding position does not fit a sportbike or even a sport touring bike in my opinion. The front is way worse than the first gen bike. I just can not get around how ugly the front lights look. The first gen was not a beaut but at least it looked better and more brutal, and brutal was never beautiful . Anyways except the Öhlins suspension you get the same electronics and up/down quickshifter on the standard bike so that would suffice for me.

Great enthusiasm Chopsy! The ergo's are definitely more 'roady' than the other nakeds but rotate the bar risers 180 degrees and it does feel a bit more sporty. I've bought aftermarket risers which are 10mm lower than standard which helps even more. If you want more sporty still, lower the front/raise the fork legs in the yolks... As for the brakes, the pads can be changed to EBC HH or similar for more initial bite . Coming from the BMW S1000R, it was pretty much the first thing to address... The pads definitely help. They do sound good but even a small can and disconnecting the exhaust valve cables (locking the valve open) makes it even better, without going super loud with a decat... Looking forward to the Tuono comparison vid :)

Just bought one and love it. In my opinion you would be mad to buy the base model instead of the SP. Steel braided lines is almost reason enough, then toss in the belly pan, paint job, semi auto suspension and it’s a no-brainer. You mentioned that pre-load cannot be set. You probably just meant it cannot be set electronically but obviously it can be set manually the old fashioned way.

Yes Chops, everyone should experience the MT-10 SP, I Love mine. Looks like you were having fun even with the traffic. I rode an SDR and MT10 back to back a few weeks ago and much preferred the Yamaha. The Yamaha is so much more comfortable for me. And I love the way it builds into the power as you rev it out compared to the immediacy of power on the superduke. The unbeatable bottom end of the SDR is quite something else to experience, but you really feel it start to fall off through the mid range and falls really flat into the top end. Now I know that's just the nature of a big V and I'm not complaining. I just prefer the way the CP4 builds and delivers the juice. Even though it's a bit slower than the KTM it's still a bucket load more power than anybody *needs* on the street and it still has a strong bottom end to get ya going. Mt10 is the easy pick for me. I'll have a new MT10SP in my garage the day my current bike gets scooped up by its next owner. Oh and the SDR had been my dream bike for some years before I rode it. Funny how that worked out 😂
@kevincraig8257 Жыл бұрын

@mathias6423 Жыл бұрын
I agree I prefer the MT-10 as well even If I think the top end on the Super duke is still insane for a V-twin and does not fall flat I always find my dream bikes after testriding them, not by look alone, the look is not the most important thing. However the new MT-10 is just too damn ugly in the front I do not know what Yamaha thought when they put that headlight on so that bike I could never buy.
@nwmotog Жыл бұрын
@mathias6423 well it's all relative. Maybe flat is the wrong descriptor but it's noticeably softer pulling the higher you rev it. As fast as it is, for me it's a very dissatisfying way to climb through the gears. Looks are subjective, I have actually owned a gen 1 mt10 and thought it was hideous, but I didn't care because I don't have to look at it when I ride. I did grow to like it but I think the gen 2 does look a bit better. Both gens and all gens of the sdr are pretty polarizing in the looks department.

At the time I bought my standard MT10 there was a deal on at there was a £4k difference. Since then I've seen the SP offered for £2k under their regular price. That might of tempted me at the time but I'm more than happy with my standard bike. The fully adjustable suspension is pretty good once you spend some time setting it up. It's such a great bike and for me captures the essence of biking when you ride it. I bought one of these last year. I'm 6' 3" tall & find the handlebars a bit too close to my chest (I doubt riders under 6' would feel the same). I owned the first gen of this bike from 2019 to 2021 and besides it being the most thirsty bike I have ever owned, I really did not like that the riding position was so straight up with the back. If this bike had the riding position of the BMW S1000R, a bit more sporty, I would love it to death. The sound I got with straight pipes was on another level. Easily the best motorcycle sound there is along with the Aprilia V4's. Almost sounds like a rumbling twin on idle and slow speed rolling, then when you are throwing the old beancan at it , it screams like an old goat on steroids, just lovely It is a shame that the new MT-10 looks like a dogs dinner Lamb Chops I have also wondered for a long time, why has not more manufactures made a crossplane engine ? It is not like Yamaha has patent on that engine configuration and I guess it should be cheaper to build than a V4 engine. The only thing I can think of is that the MT-10 uses a lot of fuel, more than any other bike I know of. More than my friends Tuono V4 which we thought was the thirstiest bike before I bought my MT-10 I know what you mean with it's power delivery, it has a spot after the middle rev range where it gets a bit dull, but then if you were to actually rev it to the top you would notice that it has good power there. It actually makes it's top 166 HP (specs from yamaha official site) at 11 500 RPM's near readline so it not slow on the top. It is just that most people, most times, do not rev their naked bikes over 9000 RPM and it is about between 8000 rpm's to 9500 rpms where I noticed a bit of a weaker spot in the rev range but then after that it gets up and goes again. The MT-10 is not as consistent as the V4 engines and the straight 4's as you mentioned, but it gets a lot closer with a full system and a ECU flash which I did to my bike. I never felt that my first gen MT-10 was snatchy, the old GSX-S1000, now that was snatchy, the MT-10 just felt a bit laggy in the throttle response as you said about the new bike. 13:25 into the video HAHA Chopsy, go to your video where you test the first S1000R 7 years ago and fast forward to 11:54 into that video and listen to what you said there and compare to what you say 13:25 into this video, kind of funny you go against your own words a bit Obviously now you think quite the opposite way from then, the S1000R being closer to the S1000RR is a much better bike than the GSX-S1000 ground up naked bike that is not as close to the GSX-R. The only difference is that I still think the old S1000R is still a much better bike than the brand new GSX-S1000 even today!

Haha, I thought that was kind of funny ;P You must hear the MT-10 with a full system or at least with the de-cat linkpipe on it, it sounds as good as the Tuono if not even slightly better. All things considered, the mt10 is my ideal bike, but I can’t seem to love it like a Speed RS. I’d love to see a comparison between those two!
@Steve-motorcycles Жыл бұрын
I honestly thought Triumph dropped the ball with the new 1200 Speed. The suspension is too stiff and the electronics let it down badly. No doubt it would beat most of the competition on track. As a road bike, I feel it’s not ideally suited. Great looking bike though
@tubejorrit Жыл бұрын
If the MT10 only had good looks (the R1 looks killer and the MT10 is the retarded little brother). If triumph gave the Speed RS electronic suspension and a more complicated electronic package (separate traction control and wheelie control for example) I would buy one.
@talkingrock7011 Жыл бұрын
The bike would be a thrill to ride but my drivers license would be taken away from me for having to much fun , Thanks Chops
@tubejorrit Жыл бұрын
Larger screen and a prettier font and a more sporty rear (just put the R1 rear on it Yamaha) and I would consider it. How it looks now, despite it being a really good bike, I wouldn't put it in my garage. I need a bike to look really good because that's also part of the owning a bike experience.

Great review chopsy, The MT10 has what you ride bikes for, do you find the bike a little small for a 6ft 2er ?

I can't help feel the SDR is still much more special than the MT......MT less likely to blow up though lol. Not sure of the pricing in the UK but the Yamaha pricing is into European bike territory here in Australia. Personally, I would buy a S1000R, SDR or Tuono if I was spending that kind of cash. They do sound amazing though!!!!
@EVILSPAWN1003 Жыл бұрын
I bought one (mt-10 sp) in june. Two weeks ago i testrode a SDR Evo. The Yamaha is now gone and in its place is a KTM SUPER DUKE R EVO. The two arent Even comparable, the DUKE is a premium supernaked and the SP just isnt...

@@EVILSPAWN1003 Totally agree. The MT is way overpriced in my opinion

The plane part describes how the crankshaft journals are positioned. If you laid a flat plane crank on a bench the journals would lay flat when looked at from the ends. A cross plane crank would look like a cross. It's what helps define the engine firing order and ultimately is drive characteristics and sound.

What he said Andrew 😄👍

It needs a remap. All the faults you picked with power delivery are due to emissions, the fuelling is really bad and a map completely chamges it and smoothes out the entire rev range

I've always liked the MT10 but owners I have spoken with have serious misgivings about the fuel consumption. Some say 40mpg "IF" you ride it carefully, that does put me off if I'm honest.

I agree with Motojitsu, the MT 09 SP is an better option. The reality is you are not going to use the full capability of the MT 10 on the streets. The MT 09 SP is all the power you need for the streets and you will still have a tonne of fun...
