Got a '22 7 GT. Proper little tourer. Done 2 trips to Spain and 2 to Wales. 8500m in 18m. Averaging 65 to the gal giving 200 mile range. No problem doing 4 hour stretches and I'm 60 year old. I have added a top box, heated grips, screen extender, engine bars and foglights. The OEM michelin P4's look as though they will go 20K miles. Cannot fault it
@RadarsRadicalRides

They will not go 20k! My rear went 7500miles before needing a change.

@@RadarsRadicalRides All depends how you ride. Mostly commuting into London, I get about 13,000 out of a front and then replace the pair with some life left on the rear.

I rode a mt07 from Norfolk to Corfu in January 2016. The engine is all that you need. Tractable with enough top end power. Seat snd bars very comfy. I did 31 hours on the way back through italy. Stops for fuel and an hour looking round Pompeii. Weather went from a sunny 16 degrees to -temps with torrential rain and storm force winds. Bike was stable and unfazed. I cant imagine a need for anything bigger. It just works and doesn't empty your wallet.

I had a GS but getting older found it heavy. Got a Tracer 7 GT and love it. I can get high 60’s to 70 mpg out of it. Went touring to France on it too. Panniers ok for clothes but i have a top box too which my helmet fits in

I bought the exact bike in June 2023. Done over 4000 miles on it. I love it. My only gripe is that the average MPG on the dash has a mind of its own. I estimate that i get about 50 MPG but the dash is currently showing 94 MPG. At one point it was saying 299.9 🤣😂 The panniers come in handy but are a bit too wide for commuting and a bit small inside for anything substantial due to the shape.

“….. having modes for the sake of modes.” Amen!
@MrMoto4u
@MrMoto4u 11 ай бұрын
I imagine what Kate meant is that for bikes such as Tracer 7 with power output of 72bhp, The mode option would be unecessary and add to the end user price hence 'having modes for the sake of modes'
@marcbrasse747
@marcbrasse747 11 ай бұрын
@@MrMoto4u That’s also how I seeit. I however even go one step further then Kate does: If a bike needs modes to make it controllable for the average rider, in other words to keep people from ending in hedges, it is too powerful. This sort of bike actually very much hits the sweetspot. My ideal is max 80 bhp, about 80 Nm and max 180 kg fully tanked. Nobody needs more to have fun on public roads. And by the way: Modes are not very expensive. They basically use a lookup table to let the engine react to specific (ride by wire) throttle grip positions. It needs very little processor power and not even much development effort but is sold as revolutionary hightech.

Don't know about "rider modes" but traction control offers an extra degree of safety no matter how much HP a bike might have or how experienced the rider may or may not have!
@marcbrasse747
@marcbrasse747 7 ай бұрын
@@Gmac237 Just came back from a trip to Spain where a rented '23 Opel Corsa regularly had its own way of interpreting rider input. The way it refused to increase speed under certain conditions, like motorway hills, was very dangerous as far as I am concerned. I'd rather trust the software in my head. 🙂
@Gmac237
@Gmac237 7 ай бұрын
Don't know much about riding a Opel Corsa? I'm talking about riding a motorcycle without a safety feature as important as "Traction Control" as is the case on the Tracer 7 It's an expensive bike and should have been included.I note Yamaha have been listening to customers and the 2025 model will have traction control along with a range of rider aids fitted !

Your reviews are great to watch because of your enthousiasm. Too bad you didn't ride the tracer 7 in good weather. With a dry road and more leanangle you wil love the tracer 7 even more. Then it can play out its wonderfull handling and cp2 strength at its best. I think its my best bike in 37 years of riding.

Hi Kate, it is a good looking little bike, I think you summed it up really well, mini tourer and commuter, it makes perfect sense, especially if touring without a pillion, and if we are honest do we really need much more power on our busy pot hole strewn roads. Thank you.
@BBFazer
@BBFazer Жыл бұрын
I have a 2023 tracer 7 and it did 1:23.5 l/km my first 2000 km's. In summer I think it wil use a bit more, because I think I wil be driving faster then. There is a big difference on the highway between riding 110 km/h or 140 km/h. When driving faster the fuel consumption wil be more around 1/20. Still not bad, but around 110 km/h it is easy 1:23 l/km. I have been riding motorbikes for 37 years now, from which a lot with more than 1000 cc, but this tracer 7 delivers more fun than I had in a long time. Not missing power or torque at all. It feels much stronger then it is on paper.

Hi Kate. Glad that you liked it. I have a 2018 non-GT and it is a great bike. It has the same spec as a GT + heated grips but minus the comfort seat. Touring is effortless and returns 75/80mpg if ridden within speed limits or just above. Had an MT07 for 5 years before the tracer and just love these engines for the low down power. I also weigh just over 9 stone and that helps with economy I think. Keep safe.

A step up so to speak. Hope it all goes well for you. A neighbour's friend has an MT7 Yammy. I had never heard of them up that point, then when I got home I find its one of the most popular retros out. Am impressed by the way you keep your presentaion so positive, the weather was sh1te ! I always dread riding in the rain, and yet when I do I can't help smiling, realy I love it. Just has this actual bike out for a spin whilst my own is in for a service at Paddock. Was pleasantly surprised. First off, it actually felt too small when I threw my leg over it (I'm 6ft 1" with long legs). But once riding, it felt just right. Engine is loads of fun, nice and punchy. Was great to have wind protection over my MT09. The seat felt really nice and I think I could stay on it longer than my MT09 without stopping. Gearbox was nice, clutch was smooth and easy to use. However, my big gripe with it was the brakes. Now I know Yams aren't renowned for their brakes, but they felt really wooden and not very powerful. Other than that, a great little bike. Oh and yes, that menu wheel is crap. Have it on my bike it's almost impossible to use when riding and very stiff.

Well over 200mile range, though I've never ran both empty. Hated the bars/etc,got Tracer900 Gilles risers,Fatbars,Kedo/JvB indicators, still to buy handguards, SW Motech take my fancy? Change the headers,open can,K+N,open airbox lid,no flash needed ,night and day difference (get someone to bend a mid-section)...do not miss my 900s at all...and it doesn't chug/hunt in city traffic like the 900s do! Really underrated bike! Get home for a brew Wummin 😊

Totally agree with you about this mode nonsense, my sdr stays in the fastest available mode, with regards to those side winds, I remember being blown across 2 lanes on the M4 just after emerging from behind the sand dunes at Porthcawl and was instantly exposed to the wind coming off the sea. In fairness there is a large orange wind sock to warn drivers but I was young and daft and didn't notice it. Luckily the road was quiet, I have been warey of riding faired bikes in the wind ever since

I’ve got a new to me 2020 year model that I bought this summer with 10k miles on the clock. Put a few thousand on it before proper winter started here in Sweden. I’m very happy with the bike, get about 3,8-4,2/100km commuting with the odd excursion with the boy on the back. A couple of things: I’m happy I have the LCD as I wonder what the TFT would have given me. Bike doesn’t need it imo. Neither does it need rider modes or TC, not really. Cruise control? Maybe. But I get along with a cramp buster, ask me again after this summers touring. Don’t see the point of getting the GT spec tbh. The Yamaha Panniers are IMO too small and the touring screen isn’t that great. Mates of mine report that the ‘comfort’ seat is anything but. So I bought some Shad and a cheap mesh seat cover. What the bike really needs are fender extenders front and back and a centre stand/cotton reels. All simple bolt on parts really as it’s a great bike to start with even for me at 6’5”.

Despite my aversion to Yamaha, this model actually does look quite nice, especially from the back, and even the handguards are slick and agreeable..., however that windscreen looks very much like a (bad+ugly) afterthought! But, having listened to what you're surprisingly, and positivly reporting here, it is a bike I would at least give the chance of a test ride, before eventually dumping it into the bin of Yamaha rejects! Over the years, I have never really known anybody in my wider group of biker accquiances to have been over the moon with his Yamaha (any model) or Yammy experiences, and this has certainly been the reason for my looking away from anything with a Yamaha badge on it... although my Yamaha Bass guitar has been with me for several years now... but that's another story!!

@@ianhalliwell8604 Of course reliability should be at the top of the list, but who wants a reliable bike, if it's not got the looks that make you feel you've just gotta get on it and go? And the majority of Yammys don't have them looks for me, nor a good reputation in my neck of the woods. Sorry.

Suzuki best longterm bike,all those WEC wins mean something, Yamaha are up there,Toyota, the World's most reliable car manufacturer, don't use Yamaha designed and built engines for nothing...if Toyota trusts them, so should you...Honda are the worst Japanese bikes,they just can't do electrics...mates CB600 fried his electric in under 600mls,so it's not just old Hondas

from a group of Transalp 750, Tuareg 660, BMW F850GS ('24) and Tracer 7GT, the Yamaha could be the best manageable for short riders, what do you think?

Tracer 7 not listed on US website. Too bad, it's another Yamaha that seems way more appealing now that I've seen you on it. Dweeb? I don't think so.

'connect your 'phone to the bike'. Why, on Gods green Earth would anyone want to use a telephone on their motorbike? I ride my bike to escape everything, except the bike and road. A telephone is the last thing I want on my bike.

@williamrae9954 Cruise control isn't an option you donut!. And retrofitting voids warranty. No bike in this segment offers cruise. This is why I push people to buy used bikes. A 2018 Tracer 900GT is 7k and has, Cruise, quickshifter. Reliability, etc. 1050XT Strom, 7.5k.

@williamrae9954 Buying a bike new is also very stupid. Especially when it's going to lose 20-30% of its value within the first year.

Judgement Day? If you, with an objective and well-informed critical faculty, can appreciate a bike that much in such atrocious conditions then it's gotta be good. Looks to me like an eminently practical all-rounder, or in France, _polyvalent_. As for your being a 'dweeb' (a person who is physically and socially awkward and has little confidence (Cambridge Dictionary)) I doubt many here would agree. All the best for 2024.
