@@kassiogomes8498 I didn't like Saltburn, either, and not every critic loved it. Concept has been done, before. (The Talented Mr. Ripley, etc.) Despite me personally not liking the film, I still loved the score, the cinematography, and the acting by Jacob Elordi and Rosamund Pike.
@kassiogomes84989 ай бұрын
@@nicoleann0703 All concepts of all movies have been done before. Almost nothing is completely new. That's not a detriment. It's like saying a movie can't be good because it's a remake. Like??? And Saltburn isn't like Mr Ripley. First of all, they aren't even in the same genre. Saltburn is a comedy, Talented Mr Ripley is a drama. The characters are completely different. Ripley is smart, funny, and charming. He is likable. And more importantly, he is actually poor. He envies Dickie's money. Dickie's lifestyle is very fun for all people, he is always on vacation and partying with friends. What makes Oliver's obsession so interesting and different is that he's extremely basic, dull, and uninteresting. What he is looking for with the Cattons isn't exactly money. He wants old money, he wants the prestige, the fancy dinners, the butlers, the eccentricity of these aristocrats. Unlike Ripley, Oliver doesn't need the Cattons to be rich. He is an Oxford student, he can be rich on his own. But he can't be an aristocrat on his own. Mr Ripley is a thriller about a charming con man looking for money. Saltburn is satire about middle class and their obsession with the vanity of the super rich.

Am I the only one that doesn’t care about Charles Melton getting snubbed? I wasn’t a fan of May December when I saw it and I thought his performance was fine. I’m more personally rooting for Robert Downey Jr to win for his performance in Oppenheimer but I never understand the love for Melton so I don’t personally don’t care about his snub anyways
@DAN-lo7fz9 ай бұрын
I’m the opposite. I found the Robert Downey Jr. section of Oppenheimer to be the weakest part of the film and in large part because he played Strauss like a one-dimensional weasel and the case for or against nuclear weapons became less about morality vs geopolitics and more about GOOD exemplified by Oppenheimer and EVIL exemplified by Downey Jr. Black vs White / Good vs Evil are too one-dimensionally boring for a film as ambitious as Oppenheimer. It’s cheap and convenient. Downey Jr.’s performance lacks any complexity and really dragged the film down from a perfect film to a merely v good one. Thank gawd for Cillian Murphy and the other two sections of the film.
@DAN-lo7fz9 ай бұрын
I thought Charles Melton was the soul of May December. Julianne Moore overacted somewhat and was really unlikable in the film which skewed our perception of the character and the story. Natalie Portman I found rather uninteresting. The most Earth-bound and heartbreaking character was Charles Melton’s, who really created an unexpectedly heartfelt character slowly falling apart at the seams, as opposed to what could have been a one-dimensional and caricatured interpretation. He is in my opinion the best of the lot this year. Unfortunately these awards are often slow to welcome newcomers and unknowns. The depth of Melton’s performance and the transformation of his character vs the Convenient Villain/Evil Weasel in Robert Downey Jr’s performance - pretty easy choice for me.

All of us Strangers being snubbed for cinematography is surprising. But overall i feel at least 5/10 categories it was listed for are locks for the Final Cut. 1) Best British Film 2) Actor 3) Adapted Screenplay 4) Supporting actress (they nominated CF for First Man) 5) Best Film I only think one of the boys will get in for Supporting Actor. Paul Mescal probably has the Edge because he’s more popular, he’s been campaigned as the second lead in all of AoUS’ promotional videos + he won the BIFA. I don’t think it’ll get editing (it SHOULD) I forgot their rule on the director choices but I think it’ll be 6 nominees and 3 have to be male and 3 have to be female. My opinion with the BAFTAs is that it's not a way to figure out snubs or surprises, but as a way to clear up the rubble and make a path to the tent pole films. Think about it, All Quiet last year got 9 nominations, and the BAFTAs rewarded that film like crazy. In 2022 The Power of the Dog got 8, with several surprises in it's collection. Those surprises got The Power of the Dog it's 12 nominations. So with the BAFTAs, keep an eye out for Oppenheimer in makeup and costumes, and Barbie in supporting actress. Those categories might seem strange now, but the BAFTAs are showing us that those films might clean up there.
