Here in Mexico people don’t want to go to the standard multiplex anymore. I have so many experiences now, that I encourage my friends, my dad, my mother, to go to the traditional screens, and we end up having a pretty bad experience, except for Wicked, the only time that my dad has been elated by a movie and I’ve seen him having so much fun. Even now, thinking about that makes me teary eyed.

Big win for Disney. 2025 will also a Disney year with Zootopia 2 and Avatar 3
@dejajade67268 сағат бұрын
2:26 I was just telling someone the other day that even Disney takes losses, they will still come out on top in the end. They tried to arguing with me that this year will be rough for them but with Avatar 3 alone bringing in 2+ billion, Zootopia 2 likely being another billion, an MCU movie being a billion or all 3 movies combined, and Lilo & Stitch possibly joining the club, I don't think so. That's 4 billion locked, plus some. They're going to do just fine.
@crestedargo46638 сағат бұрын
Agree, Disney will have a very interesting year: Snow White will flop hard, Cap 4 and Thunderbolts could underperform, but some of their movies will be extremely successful. Not so sure about Lilo & Stitch making 1 billion, though
@zoelaird33548 сағат бұрын
Y'all got to stop comparing to 2019. It was an outlier in box office numbers. It had two finales to massive franchises as well as the much anticipated third Spider-Man movie. The assumed finale of a beloved children's movie series in Toy Story 4. And the hotly anticipated and Lion King remake and Frozen sequel. The box office was never going to reach those numbers in 2020 even if the pandemic didn't happen.

I mean 2024 box office isn’t over yet, mufasa could still get in the top 10 and Moana 2 could get a billion
@crestedargo46637 сағат бұрын
Moana 2 will get for sure to 1 billion and Mufasa to at least 650 million worldwide, but it depends on how precisely you want to calc box office: if we want to be very accurate, the money that is being made in 2025 by movies released in 2024 should be part of the 2025 yearly box office. Thus, under this premises, 2024 box office is indeed "closed"

Personally I saw a total of two movies at the cinema in 2024: Challengers and Wicked. The rest just didn't interest me enough not to wait for streaming them at home, and when it comes to something social to do together with friends in the evenings, I have come to prefer going to the theatre or concerts, aka seeing real people do a unique, in-the-moment performance rather than a pre-recorded movie. Idk if others feel the same though

6:50 They actually released 6, if you count “Young Woman and the Sea”, which unfortunately performed so bad that they didn’t even report numbers on it, and the documentary “Blink”, which, while yes it is a National Geographic production, was still distributed by Disney proper.

I'll be honest and say I am fine with the demise of the traditional cinematic release in favor of streaming. However if Hollywood really wants to get the theatrical release back on top it only has to fast track the inevitable decision to enshitify streaming, like they did to cable back in the 90's, by making it commercial based. When my family briefly had cable in the mid 1980's Disney was a commercial free premium channel like HBO and Showtime, and most of the other channels had limited commercial breaks... anyone else remember the USA "Cartoon Express" or Nickelodeon's "Sesame Street" rip off "Pinwheel"?
