BMW is German design, feeling, concept, function, logic. I had one. Then I rode a V4S and rediscovered what is passion, love, pleasure, sensations. I am now 66 and I am too young to go back to a GS. Maybe when I will be old. And you know what, v4s can be smooth and docile and confortable AND violent if push.

I've been riding this bike now for 885km and it's great! It's a performance allroad bike and it handles the best I've ridden. That engine is great and the suspension is the best I've ridden. This machine is made for trailbraking and fast cornering. It will out perform all others. And..... it's a beauty!!! You talk about vibrations and complaining when in 6 gear at low speed. Come on... who's gonna do that???? Ok, if your riding style is that, buy a GS, in all other situations, take the V4GT

I don't think you can really go wrong with any of the big ADV bikes these days. They each have their own flavour, but are all so good in their own ways, you just can't lose. The Ducatis are nice for sure. Beautiful machines. My personal pick and the bike I own is a 2023 1290 SAS.

I've ridden one of these on a demo day several years ago and found it ok, but after having owned an R1200RT, I don't think I'd go back to another brand. The boxer engine makes maintenance so damned easy, and that paralever front suspension absolutely rocks.

V4S owner here, wish they had increased the width of the side panniers and added a top box standard for this Grand Tour as Ducati did on the 2013/14 1200 Gran turismo. The phone pocket remains a joke, now with cooling fan btw, good storage pocket for ear plugs and USB cable though. Would like to see a direct comparison of the Ducati Connect App and what KTM and BMW offer, and WHY we do not get Apple car play and Android Auto - Honda does it, why not the Prussians, Austrians and Italians?

Multistrada is just gorgeous. I waited to see 1300. 10x better than 1250, but still nothing compared to Multi. I get 160miles, with 20 in reserve, per tank I want to stop about every 130-150miles anyway to stretch. The only thing that I like about BMW better is the low rpm torque. I have zero brand loyalty, but I don’t want to turn around and look back at the triumph or BMW. The multi is art. My other bikes are a triumph speed twin, Duke 390, and z125.

Thank you Scott for bringing this bike out to channel and let us know what your impressions are. I experienced this bike also last year and it felt nice. Not super nice, but definitely nice. Curiously, this machine looks better on the photosphere. In the real world riding it, it wasn’t what I thought. The engine sounds great after 4500/ 5000 rpm but that’s not enough to make me change to a Ducati bike, sorry for the Ducati’s fans but it didn’t made my day riding it. Don’t get me wrong, the bike is great but I like the 1300 GS far more. It’s only my personal opinion. My friend, take care and ride safe ✌🏻✌🏻

I found this video helpful. Thank you. Particularly your table. I'm getting ready to switch motorcycles. I've been riding a 2010 KTM 990 Adventure R for 11 years now and am closing on 100,000 miles on it. Before the KTM I did 200,000 on a 2004 BMW 1150 GS Adventure. before the BMW a 1997 Honda CBR900RR was run 100,000 miles. Before the Honda an old airhead BMW I'd built from two totaled bikes into a 1982 R100S. With a 1985 R80 single sided swing arm frame. That ran 100,000 miles as well. Anyway, I'm lookin at the Ducati Multistrada V4 Rally, The BMW R1300GS and the KTM 1290 Super Adventure S. I'm retired and old enough I'm done with the hard offroad, deep sand and all that part of silliness on a too big and loaded motorcycle. Right now before I've had time to ride anything, the Ducati has me for looks and that motor. The BMW has me for some other reasons. I can use my existing and only slightly battered Touratech Zega Pro's and soft bags when I want by adding the TT racks. The KTM requires a different bag, so I could get away with buying one $600 US Zega Pro. Plus the racks. Not terrible. The difference between the Ducati and the BMW for my set up is around $700, before taxes, registration and insurance. I do my own work. The Ducati isn't hard, just tedious and a bit fiddly to get at places. The KTM comes in at around $23K here with bags.

I had a 2023 Triumph Tiger GT Explorer and sold it 3 months later with 2500 miles on it due to the vibration in the grips and pegs. I have ridden the Multi 3 times now and it is by far the smoothest of all the adventure bikes. I have no idea what you are talking about when you say there is buzzing in your right hand? My 2023 GSA with bar end weights and grip puppies vibrates more than the stock Duc. I love the Ducati but the heat coming off the engine keeps me from putting it in the garage. I also find it very, very comfortable.

Beautiful family Scott❤️ I bet you can’t wait for warmer weather very soon! Thanks for sharing your thoughts on the big Ducati. I agree I couldn’t go past the BM R1300GS in any guise. Plenty powerful, economical, shaft drive, ride height adjustable… etc. Just so you know, even my 1982 Ducati Pantah V2 cannot be ridden under 3800 RPM. I don’t expect a modern V4 in 2024 to be any different. A bigger tank would also make it top heavy too. I hope you get to test ride the CFMoto 450MT when it gets released in Germany. Cost? Reliability? Warranty/support? Personal taste? Looks? I’m a BMW man for sure. Supported 100% with minor issues and I’m weird as I love the look. I love the drama and sportiness of Ducati but then again, that’s only a factor for my style of travel. If I was offered this same bike, I’d give it a go. That said, how good is it we all have so many great options out there. A great time to be a biker!!!

Hey Scott, I was just thinking about you the other day and here you are with another video. Like you, I bought a R1250 RT (Triple Black) and loved it. Very smooth, very fast and corners like a beast. I learned how to ride it fast in the Malibu hills. But then I rode a Multistrada V4 Pikes Peak and it ruined me. Sold the RT, bought a used 2023 Pikes Peak and am loving it! LIke you say, it doesnt like to be under 4000 with any kind of load, but otherwise the V4 blows the boxer motor away in every catagory. The Pikes Peak is also MUCH more comfortable to sit on than the RT, with a very similar seating position as a GS. I think the Multistrada is very comfortable for longer rides. Anyway, nice to hear from you and I know, everyone has their likes and dislikes, but for me, the Multistrada is far superior to the RT or the GS. Cheers

Missed you for a long while! It seems that all is okay. I have a 2022 V2S that rumbles away. Long distance is okay, but the wind blast ruins it all! Why can't they work this out when all else seems so perfected? Chain is a problem in this high cost category. This should change as Ducati has the ability and a new purely off road choice now. This is a road bike.

Love your channel Scott and all the technical data you present. I think Ive watched all your videos. I’ve got a GSA with 27k on it in two years and an S1000XR in my garage. I thought you were a bit unfair on the Multistrada trying to get it to pull away in 6th from 30mph….. it’s definitely not on par with torque with any GS and needs to be ridden using the gearbox a little more same as my XR. I’ve test rode a V4 and thought it a brilliant bike. If you rocked up on your new GS1300 and drove off on the Multi, your whole mindset needs to change to the way you ride as I have to do with my bikes. You can’t ride the Multi with a GS head. Just an observation.
@NothingToProve
@NothingToProve 9 ай бұрын
Thank you! And thank you for your perspective. To judge each bike fairly I have to ride a bike according to it's respective category and compare it to the other bikes in the same category (it's competition). If I don't then it will be an unfair comparison. Ducati needs to put a 17" front wheel on this (like the Pikes Peak and RS versions) and call it a "cross" or sport-tour bike and take out the word "Adventure". Then I would not have mentioned 4k RPM at all and I'd be comparing it to the 1000XR & 1000GX for example. It is a "brilliant" bike, yes, but not in the heavyweight ADV group, if you want to compete in this group you have to do everything well, not just performance. Honda, Yamaha, BMW, KTM, Triumph...etc. all get this, but Ducati continues to miss this point. And that was my point, I just didn't come right out and say it in the video, figuring that I've already "stepped on a few toes" of the Ducati faithful. Take care, Scott

The last time I was on a Versys 1000 was back in 2019 (I tried to get my hands on one last summer 2023 but it didn't happen), so it would not be fair to compare to it. But with that said the newest version of the Versys has not changed very much, the core bike still remains, just updates here and there. Mainly this is about 45 lbs lighter and does not feel top heavy and way more power but also, the Versys is a lot cheaper, really cheaper, like 10k cheaper, that's a lot of money! You could buy a new Versys and a new middleweight naked bike for the price of one of these 👍😊

Multistrada or 1290 SAS, which one is most punchy? Ducati has more hp but has less torque as well; what do u think?

My KTM 1290 SAS is outrageous. Almost too fast. Especially in sports mode. Have not tried the V4.

In a drag race the SAS would beat anything in this group, even this. But on a track, this would win...imho. But adventure bikes were never meant/designed to do those things BUT leave it to Ducati and KTM to do it anyway 😂🤣😁

@NothingToProve actually, the Multi beat it head to head in one of the bike channels tests. I think the SAS won in the roll race though.

Please for most riders. Who do not know .what the difference in the brembo brakes & weight of motorcycles. Please explain what you mean.

The Brembo monoblock caliper - the Stylema version - is made for performance and Brembo made it lighter and put more cooling elements into it. For the sole purpose of racing, not for bigger heavier bikes. Simple. Usually bigger bikes have bigger calipers because the bike needs more stopping power to bring the weight to a stop. Ducati put the lightest caliper (M50 Stylema) (& most expensive) on the market today on a big bike and I usually don't like the feel of this on a heavy bike because it has a long pull and does not bite and lacks feeling but not on this, Ducati nailed it, that is why I went on & on about the caliper on this bike. Two thumbs up from me 👍👍

In Canada warranty is only 2 years with no additional extended warranty from Duc available. For me this is a deal breaker. In Canada we can lose 6 out of every 12 months due to winter so this is in effect a 1 year warranty. Too bad as i like this bike.

Shaft drive all day long…..my bike gets very few washes. A chain is certainly more efficient, but cleaning it, tensioning it and just the whole hassle, it’s a major negative for very high mileage, all weather riders. Each to his own though.
