McLaren-Mercedes showed lots of promise on Friday - and the momentum continued into qualifying, with Lando Norris taking the pole by 0.022sec from his team-mate, Oscar Piastri. Max Verstappen starts P3 for Red Bull, 0.024 away from Piastri, ahead of Ferrari's Carlos Sainz, Mercedes' Lewis Hamilton and the other Ferrari of Charles Leclerc. Both George Russell (Mercedes) and Sergio Perez (Red Bull) failed to make it out of Q1, Russell due to a fuelling error and Perez after catching a slippery chicane kerb and spinning into the barrier. Peter Windsor looks back at the day's events.
