My favorite 2024 trends - anything classic. Lady cardigans/jackets, Polo knits, pleated skirts, contrast-trim, fitted blazers. Most of all: comfortable, walkable footwear! During my career years there was literally nothing available at all that was office-appropriate, stylish and comfortable. This last year we had a great selection, at long last. Designers are pushing stiletto heels for 2025 again, don’t buy them!

I’m 64 and I’m sick of seeing designers repeatedly pushing the same non-wearable trends in their desperation to seem original. A great example is the “2024 trend” of sheer skirt or trousers in over a skimpy panty, I’ve seen at least four cycles of this in my lifetime and no one ever buys it. Or the current half-pants trend, only one long pants leg, one leg is micro-short or missing. Why don’t they give us women what we want: timeless, wearable clothes that make us look and feel beautiful? In natural fibers only, we don’t want that plastic crap, however cheap it is for them to make. I just read that my US state, California, is the first to have passed a law requiring those who sell apparel here to provide for its ultimate recycling, not landfill disposal. This will help reduce the amount of cheap synthetics, which can’t even be resold, donated or given away to recyclers. Natural fibers have great resale and donation value, or garment reuse potential as I call it, and if not blended with plastics, can be sold to textile recyclers for a fair price. Ultimately, they will biodegrade and not up end as a new geologic layer or floating in earth’s waters. This law passes on at least some of the responsibility to the fast-fashion companies who are producing most of this junk clothing waste and making astronomical profits from it. It isn’t just the consumer’s fault, most of us do what we can. But, even in my ultra-progressive “Zero-Waste” county, there is no textile recycling facility or program, nor within a day’s drive.

You make such a great point, Kimberly! Some trends definitely feel more like statements than something practical for everyday wear. It’s always refreshing to see timeless, wearable styles make a comeback. Let’s hope 2025 brings more of those! The reason Ralph Lauren models are the only ones who are smiling is because they actually like the clothes they’re paid to model. The models for the other designers look embarrassed, they know the clothes they have to show are awful.

That's an interesting observation, Kimberly! Ralph Lauren's timeless designs definitely resonate with many people. I'd love to hear your thoughts on which designers caught your eye this season! I did like a lot, but those ripped jeans... let's say they are not my cup of tea :)

Hi Undine: mocha is pronounced MOKE-uh in English (in the UK they say MOCK-uh, but that’s wrong). Not MO-shuh. I know - English spelling and pronunciation are so illogical, even for foreign-origin words like this one.🙂
