After 30+ years of purchasing base, no A/C trucks to use on the farm and as my commuter, wife told me in June 2023 that we had sufficient in savings to get the retirement truck I wanted. After testing pretty much every mid and full sized truck on the market, went to my buddy who is in sales at a local Ford store. He made me an excellent deal on a right color ‘23 regular cab, short box like this one: 4wd, Coyote, trailering w/limited and factory trailer brake, XLT, painted in bed liner. Showed it to her, and the conversation went something like this: “There’s no room for car seats. You need a crew cab so I can take grand-babies in the mountains.” “This is my truck, right? I want Papaw’s hot rod. Don’t want to spend $15k more for a crew cab. I want to take some extra money to put the factory supercharger on it.” Crickets. The LOOK……… That look didn’t scare me; I showed her. Went out and purchased………….a 4Runner SR5 4wd. To add insult to injury, the grandkids will be moving 1500 miles away in three weeks.

This is the absolute best, most underrated choice for a "midsize" truck available on the market today. It has a smaller footprint than the bloated modern midsize segment, yet has more power, more payload, more towing, more bed space, and stronger components all around. This thing has a shorter wheelbase than my old compact little 3rd gen Ranger. Can you believe that?

Back in 1994 I purchased new a '95 model with this confirmation. 4.9L inline 6 with manual 5 speed 4X4 front & rear axle anti-spin axles. Was a great hunting truck for Wisconsin, Iowa, Wyoming. Biggest drawback was small fuel tank. I currently own a '22 supercrew 6.5 bed 5.0L XL FX4 with 36 gal fuel tank. We use it to tow 19 ft. RV trailer - does a great job. Same front seat config, Ford should offer storage in central folding armrest - heck the classic Ram has that !

I own this truck as 2021. Its a high end xlt with coyote v8 4x4 short box. Goes like hell!!!!Has lots of options too! Little choppy on real rough roads. Very manuverable in the woods.24+mpg. Third one Ive owned. Great truck!!!!!!

@@jeepcjgarage - Try experimenting with the way you drive. See if the 10spd likes a more aggressive throttle application to get up to speed? Does your truck have tow/haul mode? If so, try that. I find that some vehicles/transmisions tend to hunt more, with drivers that accelerate lightly/slowly. Hope this helps. If not, look into a programer that complys with your factory warranty, that may give you different shifting options, like sport, or tow/haul modes.

The extension on the battery bolt is so you don't need a 8'' extension to get that bolt if your battery flails on the side of the road. You can swap it with a multi-tool or pair of pliers. I like that! And those connectors are for crap you don't need with the basic package.

It is - people who get in my truck think it’s a much higher trim … some people really don’t like the “digital gauges” but the reality is even if the gauges appeared analog they are still digital behind the scenes .. it’s not like there is a speedometer cable mechanically connected to the odometer like there was in the 60’s .. so why not just have a screen .. ironically it’s probably cheaper and easier to deal with then “analog looking” gauges

Just ordered one of these in 2wd, 5.0, 3:73 rear gears and locking diff. Gonna put rear lowering shackles to take some rake out, and just ordered the ford performance black 22" six spoke wheels. Dealer going yo install them before i pick it up. I got carbonized grey color

I think a lot of us want a single cab, short box, short wheelbase PUT. I prefer 2WD, but 4x4 is OK. I have a 454SS Chevy in that configuration, and I love it. I must admit I also have a four-door GMC; it is after all, more practical! But the 454SS is more fun!

Nice review. I put several exhausts systems on my 2017 5.0 and ended up with Corsa Extreme. I'd put the Corsa Sport on an F150 5.0 because I wouldn't want it crazy loud just enough to hear that beautiful V8. Check it out almost every other exhaust I tried had drone but the Corsa Zero. It's only loud on cold starts and anything over 4000 rpms.

Cosmoline is a great choice for undercoating vehicles. It's a waxy grease. It's good because it stays somewhat soft. So you can cover everything in it. If you use a bedliner it hardens and makes it impossible to remove bolts. Cosmoline being like wax you can scrape it off or just shove tools through the wax. It even comes in cans for really easy application.

That stud in the battery tray is your battery hold down. the battery is locked in place with that and the trapezoidal piece of plastic at the bottom of it

By making it a bolt it brings the fastener to hold-down to the top of the battery for ease of extraction. It is a nice touch. When the fastener is at the bottom in tight access, that is when you drop your socket or extension and it disappears.

Observations and a question- You do have a clip for paperwork on the sun visor. It is right on the inside hinge. It's small, only going to hold a parking pass or similar. You may be able to add the keypad. It's essentially a remote so in theory you can mount it anywhere. I know some people stuck it on the inside of the fuel door to keep the look clean but still have the feature if you get locked out or whatever. Can you share the payload rating from the sticker in the door jamb? Thanks for the detailed video. Hoping to buy a truck like this next spring.

Shift linkage is at 20:58 The shift lever is not directly connected to the shift linkage. The transmission will automatically shift to park when you open a door with its own module. The shift lever itself is separated with a motor that's why it takes so long for it to shift back to park can actually hear the motor in the steering column when it's shifting back. The motor you were looking at 21:13 is the starter motor.q

Those connectors that are not plugged in @18:35 might be fog light pre-wiring. Not 100% sure, but some manufacturers will put the wiring in and then you just add a button to your dash and can easily connect the existing wires and install fog lights. If there is a matching plug on the other side of the vehicle that would be my guess as to what it is. I had this on one of my older Toyota products. Would be interested to know if that is the case as I am looking at buying one of these trucks as well. Cheers!

There is another version of the light switch on the dash that has a go go long switch so I would likely need to get that as well. I'm 6'3" 330lbs and have 1400 miles on my '24. Getting in and out of the truck isn't a problem, but an "issue" i have with my height is where you're looking through the windshield. Last week I got my truck tinted (a necessity here in Florida) and the AS1 line on the windshield is right about where I am looking (towards the top of the windshield). Its a weird sensation looking normally and your vision is light dark light dark from the tinting. Just something to know if you tint windows, I'd recommend NOT getting the windshield tinted

No need to coat the inside of the doors and body panels the Ford F-150 has been an Aluminum truck since 2015 possibly the back side of the bumpers and a select few other parts. while aluminum does corrode it doesn't corrode the same way as steel you won't lose weight due to the body rotting away. Early Aluminum F-150s with over 100k in rust belt states and Canada look new with typical light surface rust on the frame and the few other steel components on the truck.

Nice truck......wow there's a whole lot of features on that work truck...lol. I bought a Chevy regular cab Silverado 5.3 work truck and it only came with a convenience package which is nice but I'm old fashioned and I didn't want a whole lot of extra features like you have on your Ford because I'm a firm believer that all of those bells and whistles are just something that'll need fixed in the future. I do have a question for you, I also have vinyl flooring and when I try to put mats down they slide all over the place...lol. Does yours do the same?

They did slide all over that’s why I ended up getting the weather tech floor liners, they fit perfectly and don’t move all over the place. I hear you on the extra features .. unfortunately you can’t order these without them. I really wanted this size truck with a v8 and fords the only one doing it this way now.

Great looking truck. Love it. I have a Crewcab, but I had a couple Reg Cab short boxes. I leveled the firat one I had and it completely changed the ride, went from amooth to choppy. Honestly all I would change are the wheels and tires that are one size bigger, I have Goodyear Wrangler Duratracs on my truck, great tires. And some nice fitted seat covers.

i’m personally a fan of the v8 5.0 .. i don’t like turbos and prefer a naturally aspirated v8. your fuel economy will likely be about the same if that’s important to you. i get 20-21mpg average with the v8 4wd.

It came with the house (big reason why I bought this place) but from what I understand it’s probably a few thousand to buy and install .. you can get used ones cheaper which is what this one is. You could also install yourself if you’re willing to roll your sleeves up .. just need to make sure you have enough thickness on the concrete below it

Can you give a little more detail on how you got into Toe/Haul. The only way I could get my 2024XL was to first activate the locker which doesn't seem logical. When it does go into Toe/Haul the locker deactivates but pressing the locker button will reactivate it if you needed to use it. I use Toe/Haul to be able to see the gear I'm in. Is there another way to see the gear w/o going into Manual? Thanks

Yes you turn the knob where the locker button is - either to the left or the right, i forget which way but it will show you on the dash screen. When I was in sport mode it showed me all the gears and the gear I was in without going into M .. it might do the same in tow/haul .. I’ll check later when I get in it again

@@jeepcjgarage Thanks...Have seen a couple more vids...in one pressing the M in the end of the stick while in Park showed the different modes on the IP. In other vids, turning the knob one way vs the other made a difference. Truck is already back to dealer for service so I can't do any testing but i remember that I turned the knob in the same direction enough to go from Normal, Slippery, and other mode(s) Off Road??? and see them repeat several times. Never saw Toe/Haul. As soon as the locker was pressed the next detent on the knob brought up Toe/Haul. Not sure I ever saw Sport but when I get the truck back I'll be looking for it. Once in drive I used the +/- buttons to control the gear/RPMs. I didn't get anywhere near Red Line (less than 300-miles and trying to break it in per the Ford instructions) to know if it will shift by itself but I was told by the salesman that hitting the M will prevent a shift. Once hitting the +/- pressing the M twice would first put it in M from D on the IP and then back into D. In my Challenger there is a difference when using the paddle shifters (+/-) vs the shifter being pushed over to M. Wondering if that's how it might also work in the truck. Where was it that you bought the running boards? So I appreciate your putting up these vids. Your mods list is the same as mine. l'm looking forward to the cat back exhaust.

Im late to the party but you should see what your local ford dealer can do for you in regards to the keypad. Ford is moving away from the built in keypads and they're now moving to a wireless stuck on key pad. They may or may not be able to program you a custom key pad and stick it on your truck wherever you want. Its worth a shot to ask, i don't know why they're moving away from this. The keypad is what made a ford a ford in my opinion, it was so convenient In regards to the glovebox, even though its more money, you can buy the assembly with the door and swap it out.

Solid basic truck that will last well past 300k miles with proper care. Would make a great light duty plow vehicle especially in tight areas. I'd prefer an extended cab for extra storage. Doesn't need to be large, but like extended cabs were in 90's amd 00's. The extra 12 inches wouldn't matter especially with the useless space in the front bumper region. So with a posi rear end and dual exhaust with a better intake and cooling system and this could be a nice street/work truck 🤙🏼♥️

I consider it a work truck trim - Technically it’s an “xl” (not really sure what that means at ford) essentially it’s a base model but not really a ton you can do to upgrade jt anymore since ford seemed to limit the packages for 2024. if you compare to a GM it’s comparable to a work truck - granted it’s got a few more options standard than what you would normally see on a work truck trim.

Does anyone know what the mpg average would be in 4x2 version of this truck? My dealer has one on the lot. I drive 80% of my miles on roads with speed limits between 25 and 50. I have a 2011 3.7 F150 and I get about 18 mpg now.

Insurance seems about normal for what I would expect .. depends on your needs, if your not doing off-road or you don’t live where it snows the 2wd is prob fine

I have one in my 2017 in the middle behind the middle seat, and the seat is still entirely usable and comfortable; no modifications are needed they have truck boxes made for single cabs; the kickers are the best.
