My humble opinion from someone who has been 'overlanding' AKA camping with the wife and five kids for over 50 years (family and friends) is to go 'light and spritely' whenever you can. We started in a 1974 Mercury Bobcat (Ford offered a Pinto) with five kids and the roof rack piled 3-ft high with stuff. We made it; we enjoyed it; the kids caught fish and we ate an occasional celebretory fish, roasted hotdogs and marshmallows. They still remember those experiences. Now, as a grandfather and great-grandfather we STILL go camping and fishing . . .aka Overlanding! Still doing the tent camping thing to preserve the outdoor experience while cell phones and other electronic devices are surrendered to Grandpa's safekeeping for the evening campfire. We have a fleet of five Jeeps now as an extended family and NO ONE dares bring a camper or roof-top tent (although many own them). TRADITIONS and Family Forever. ❤

Boy, does that bring back memories. When my dad was stationed in Fairbanks we PCS'd back to the states by driving a 1963 GMC carryall just like that from Fairbanks to Ft. Eustis, VA in one week...including down the ALCAN...in DECEMBER!!! Oh, and with 6 kids (one that was 2 months old in a bassinette). My dad built a huge topper out of plywood to carry all of our stuff.

WAY WAY WAY far deeper in" XD

32:41 Thanks for a great video. Regarding the large tires, remember, that larger the tire the better it is off road. However, the larger the tire the slower the top speed in tarmac. Large tires might look cool for guys with small privates, but far better are double diff lockers and a winch.

I tow an Airstream Basecamp with my Jeep & my biggest gripe is that the outdoor light is only white; there’s no amber. If that Mopar light bar has an amber option, that could be a game changer for a lot of people.

Love the idea of that hammock arm, but it needs two adjustable bars in the middle perpindicular to the arm angled down a bit so you can attach a rain fly on top so you can actually camp in the hammock when its rainy. Which I have seen many off road trips rained on on YT, specially week long ones.

The 'Grasshopper' caught my attention! This is an exhibit by a Japanese company. The company name being written on the side of the canopy (共立工業株式会社=Kyoritsu Kogyo Kabushigaisha). The roundel design has the Japanese name for grasshopper, which is batta (飛蝗) . Apparently, this company according to their website has been exhibiting at SEMA for more than 50 years. They should really sell this canopy/camper unit for the kei truck here in Japan, although I suspect that it is heavier than 350kg which is the maximum permissible load for a kei truck (or kei trailer) here in Japan. A very nice and cool design!!

Arb will be the best bumper choice you can make. They are airbag certified which is almost unheard of. I have owned three and currently have one on my 17 4Runner build. As far as the show getting smaller it’s because the the overland craze is on the decline, thank God. I have seen so many people on the trails with no experience and no effort to learn anything before going. I believe if this growth trend continues we won’t have any public trails left due to littering and general abuse.

Number 1) you should buy your sons JK and build it up. Number 2) Love those flat fender flares jeep will now produce. Been looking for a set of flat ones to give more tire clearance that look OEM and these check that box. Hope inner flares come with them.

That Carbon TJ looks like it has a LH diff version of a Nissan or Toyota axle. Landcruiser 250 bumpers- The ARB is definitely my favorite. After hitting a deer last year, no way would I go through the hassle and expense to install a front bumper that doesn't offer complete animal strike protection.
