I like the mid-size truck group. I just downsized from a Ford F250. No longer needed the big towing capacity and wife didn't like driving the super duty. Looked at Maverick, Tacoma, Ranger, etc. We ended up getting a 2024 Honda Ridgeline. It tows our small boat, leather interior, AWD and V6 for about $42k. No off-roading, so Ridgeline fit the bill for smoother ride. My ego would love a Ford Raptor, but I have a Ridgeline lifestyle.

Will be buying a mid-size truck in the coming months for travel and towing a small camper. It is going to be a serious face off between Ranger and Tacoma. May the best truck win!
@mikegrantham74407 ай бұрын
The Tacoma towing capacity is only 6500 lbs. The Ranger is 7500 lbs and has a lot bigger payload than Tacoma as well. So it's not really even a competition.

@@mikegrantham7440 Thanks. The camper is 3000 lbs so I think we're in the ballpark with either. Currently towing with Ridgeline (max 5000 lbs) which is just adequate but the torque on the Taco and Ranger is much higher and should be an improvement on hills and highway over the Honda.

Recently drove cross-country back and forth and got a good view of the truck market. I took some joy in seeing, in every state along the way, all the unsold full-size pickups sitting in dealer lots. Between purchase price, fuel costs and maintenance, these unnecessarily large pickups (for most people) have become too expensive. Even this Ranger, when the term mid-sized is applied, seems rather large. There's a ready market for smaller trucks out there, at a reasonable price. The automotive management MBA-types who only live to maximize profits won't see or permit it.....but it's there.

We have had many Fords and GMs in our business and I wanted to buy what I felt was the best affordable trucks for one of my long-term employee and good friend. We have 2 7.3 Godzilla's and a 6.6 gas and diesel from GM...and a 03 GMC and 07 Ford 1/2 tons both with over 230k miles. So, I am familiar with large trucks. I went to Nissan and Toyota first and drove them both. The Asians have been typically more reliable over the years. I was not impressed other than the rebates and cost was excellent for what you got on the Frontier but steering sucked and although I liked the simple V6 it felt I was driving something from 20 years ago. I then went to drive the Colorado. It was in the mid 40's and felt better but not what I wanted to spend. Next went to drive the Ranger, wasn't even on my radar. This review says it all. I loved the truck; it was the most comfortable and the seats were absolutely the best. Very quiet and felt the largest and had the best hi-tech for the money. sticker was 39k for a 2wd xlt sport package and I got it for 500 under invoice...basically 2k less than sticker. There are no rebates or low financing which sucks but I was right in the same price (maybe 1k more) as the Nissan Frontier and looked and felt better all-around with more equipment. Great review. Subscribed.

I disagree about the cloth material on the Ranger. Those seats are very nice and much more comfortable than the Tacoma or the Colorado. That alone is the reason why I decided to get a new Ranger over the competition. For me it was down to the Ranger and Colorado which have the best towing capacity in the mid-size segment. But the cloth material on the Colorado is rough as sandpaper and it did not have any height adjustment for the front passenger seat at any trim level. Even the manual seats on the Ranger have height adjustment and it also offers an electric front passenger seat as well. As for the Tacoma, it is kind of ugly to me and the dash in particular is just odd looking.

This will probably be about the last non-electric car or truck review I watch. 20 mpg has always been awful, well today it's disgraceful. Our clan has had many Ford pickups over the decades. Still have an aging F150 we share for infrequent chores. I realize the US transition to electric has hit some speed bumps recently. And I'm not under the illusion that EVs will singlehandedly solve the climate problem. But something has to give , and if you can afford this truck, you can afford an EV. If you really need a pickup truck, get a hybrid or an electric. And if you really don't, well an EV car or suv is a much better driver than this will ever be. I just wish Ford had made an electric Ranger or Maverick rather than put a massive, expensive, slow charging battery in the plus size F150. I would even pick up a used Lightning at current prices, but its just too big. One last thing: electrics sales have slowed for one reason: the manufacturers haven't bulit any chargers. Unlike Tesla, Ford, GM, and the rest have invested exactly zero in public chargers. Yeah guess what, very few people want your EV with nowhere to charge. VW built a few but nowhere near enough.

That's the cool thing about having the freedom to make our own choices: You love EV's and I don't ever want to get forced into an EV. Just don't expect my tax dollars to pay for EV charging infrastructure. BTW, one could speculate that EV sales have slowed because people overall don't like them.

“Pick-up trucks are a tool.” 😂 😂 If we could get an honest survey from full size truck owners, I’d wager 97% are lifestyle choices: keeping up with the neighbors. Which is fine in and of itself, but when an F150 gets a combined 20mpg and considering we’re warming the earth at a seemingly unstoppable rate, frankly that’s unconscionable.
