It's not much snow for the test, but enough to give you an idea of how it performs. Let me know how yours does here in the comments below!

That’s not a bad idea! I’d like to try regen on a sheet of ice to see how it reacts. Curious if it will cause a slide.

Paul, Firstly, let me give you kudo’s for using a parking lot and not city streets for your testing. That, and your comments about leaving sufficient room for stopping - can’t change physics can you. I live in Saskatchewan Canada where we get 15cm of snow at a time, and have temperatures as low as minus 35 Celcius during the winter. My Canadian 2024 CRV Hybrid Touring model (top of the line - we only get one choice here in Canada for the hybrid) came with 19” summer tires on alloy rims, but I changed over the Michelin X-Ice II SUV winter tires on 17” rims for the winter. That combination of 4 winter tires, the all wheel drive, can provide some rather amazing performance, both in acceleration but in steering and stopping. I leave traction control on all of the time, just as the engineers at Honda intended it to be. There are very times when you would benefit from turning it off. With the new 6th gen CRV with AWD, the system was changed by Honda, to always have some torque begin sent to the rear wheels, unlike the on-demand system of previous generations. Of course, when the system sense a difference in wheel speed between the front wheels and the rear, the system seamlessly delivers more torque to the rear wheels giving a very balanced feel. Snow mode, as you say, does a couple of things. It takes all of your control inputs of the throttle and softens them so that inputs are much more smooth and gradual than most drivers could accomplish. It also engages the traction control a little more aggressively (for lack of a better term), so that any slipping wheel, especially on the front, benefits from the actions of the ABS system, to try and minimize slippage by the wheel that has less traction. The equivalent of this used to be when you were taught to take you dad’s old American automatic sedan and apply slight brake pressure when the rear differential wanted to let one rear wheel spin. The light braking was enough to stop or minimize that wheel from freely spinning and help to send to torque to the other wheel and get you moving forward. You also get a bit more torque sent to the rear wheels right from the get go, so better and more stable traction moving you forward. You mentioned being sure to leave room for stopping and that is really great. I cannot tell you how many people think that All Wheel Drive translates to great stopping and steering, not just forward traction. Once they need to stop or steer, then they are at the mercy of Isaac Newton and the laws of physics. I even taught my son to drive using a similar mantra as you used. I suggested he imagine his mother in the passenger seat, wearing her best dress holding a cup of coffee, while her best china was stacked up on the rear seat. I told him to be slow and deliberate with all his movements and control inputs as he need only visualize what would happen if he spilled his mother’s coffee on her dress and knocked over her good china. Great video. Thanks.

Hi Reg, Thank you for your comment and great information about the AWD system, I appreciate that. I hope you enjoy your CRV for many years to come, thanks for watching! Paul

I much prefer the simple reliability of my manual first gen with no ABS and passive analog AWD. But I am an enthusiast so I myself am the traction control and also the warranty.

Regcoulter, hi there! When you put 17 inch winter wheels/tires on, did it change your speedometer speed?
@RegCoulter19 күн бұрын
@@FredFlintstone21 Not at all ‘Fred”. The 17” tires have a higher sidewall than the 19” Continental summers, and as both have a rolling diameter of 29 inches, everything is good. Using the 17” in winter mean a less expensive tire, plus the higher sidewall provides a more cushion ride, especially over the ice ridges that form in our lovely Saskatchewan winter roads. Honda Canada’s winter tire/rim package is offered as a 17” Michelin X-ICE II SUV winter tire on an alloy Enkei rim, so you know there will be a straight across fit once they are changed.

Incredible performance in the snow! 😮 And no snow tires!! 🛞 Up here in Canada we call that snow a light dusting. 🇨🇦

I’m Geauga County. The Ecopias were so bad, I had to get snow tires. The problem was sliding when turning or on a curve. Granted I have a 17 and it doesn’t have snow mode. Have Goodyear WeatherReadys for n our other vehicles and they are far superior in the snow
@GladiusCC9 ай бұрын
what was the temperature outside tested here? because one of the major factors of winter driving is the temperature itself, when it reaches -30C, all season tires tenses up and doesn't perform nearly as well as when it was -0 or -10C. When all seasons freezes up, it feels very different on snow/ice.
@PaulsPlace9 ай бұрын
It was about 17F/-8C. It never reaches -40C here in northeast Ohio, but as mentioned in the video if you live in a climate with worse winter conditions, definitely invest in winter tires. Thanks for watching!
