The design of the headphones, screen, USB ports, and other elements looks too old compared to the design of the Grand Highlander. 3. I'm worried about driving a two-wheel drive in Toronto. 4. Power sliding doors usually cause problems. I'd like to hear your opinion.

@TexasCat99 Жыл бұрын
So for 2024, no changes - other than a sporty-look trim, which does look nice. But otherwise, no reason to buy this. This is BAD for Honda. That means another year of Gen 5 @7yrs (Gen1 = 5yrs., Gen2 = 6, Gen3 = 6, Gen4 = 7). The Platform needs an upgrade which is hurting their sales. There's a lot to like about the Toyota Sienna. It's hybrid system is almost double the milage over the Odyssey. But I don't like the Sienna look. And worse, the 2nd row seat not being removable is the #1 reason they lose that sale from me. There are times I need to pull a 2nd row out to fit a bike or a 70" TV, or move stuff. I still DO NOT like the Honda Push-buttons. Bring back the gear shifter like the 2017 and older models. Overall-automatic shifters are generally dangerous without that "mechanical" feedback of what you're doing + the effort to shift. I'll stick with the 2016 model. The gear shifter is a reason I want the Toyota. The 2nd-row climate controls on the passenger side make more sense to parents and passengers. My previous Odyssey (3rd gen) has them on the drive side. Why? When there is an adult or older child passenger or just one kid. The driver HAS them in the passenger side so we can TALK to them, reach them, hand them things, etc. We can hear the person to our side than directly behind us with a big seat. So my kid, when younger - would have to get out of the seat to adjust. But that's a hassle or safety issue. So he would have to TELL me what he wants, rather than doing it himself... which both of us would prefer. This change happened in the 4th gen. So if Honda wants to compete with Toyota, they need to step of their game. 1 - All EV and/or Hybrid versions. Hybrid is more important, especially for long drives. 2 - Traditional gear shifter = safer. Especially with powered doors and kids. 3 - AWD for people who want that. 4 - Don't copy Toyota's flaws. Like non-removable seats... or being very bumpy when the 3rd row is folded down. Or the ugly huge grills. 5 - Copy some aspects of the 5th Gen Japanese/Chinese Honda.* This includes a dashboard with circle dials, or give driver a choice of circles or bar. * Odyssey is no longer made in Japan for East Asian markets. They are built in China. They are NICER than the American-made Odyssey. While they switched to push-button gear shifter on 5th gen on the refresh, it looks nicer. It's closer to the driver and smaller, compared to the oddly big thing in the middle. It's a cleaner dashboard, Many of the "2024 Odyssey Preview" or speculation vids on YT are showing the Chinese version. It has a stubby nose, but otherwise looks like a USA Odyssey. It has a hybrid engine setup, but for the Asian markets, they don't need or desire the 280HP of the American market. It's also about 12 inches shorter and 7 inches narrower for their smaller roads. My guess, Honda is trying out their tech in Japan & China. The international version is NOT the same thing in the USA. If Honda wants to stay in the game, they MUST have a Gen6 for 2025. They are not competing well with Toyota, who has a waiting list. Anyone with older Odysseys should wait. Perhaps this is also why Honda was silent about the 2024 model, because the USA Gen6 wasn't ready. It was easy to make a new front bumper, change a few color options and call it a day. That was lazy on Honda.

Why did I choose Odyssey vs Sienna? Better entry point for the third row when you remove the captain's seats and move the second row to the middle. Undocumented setting: you can set the middle row as face-to-face to the third row. Remove the second-row seats, and you can place standard 4x8 sheetrock, and plywood on a flat floor, the perfect space for a handyman's vehicle or for small home projects. Can be used as a mobile office without a second row and place foldable table in the trunk. Space between passenger and driver sits that allows you to enter or exit from the car at the other front door if someone parks close to your driver's door. Quality of the smart cruise control.

@TexasCat99 Жыл бұрын
@@CarefulSteps1 that radio on thing can't be a feature. What a PITA. How hard is it to remember what mode the radio was on. On or off, exhiliary or FM, etc... Slamming of the brakes with the auto avoidance system... Yeah, that can be a good thing. The concept is good but it needs to be smart. Slamming hard at a bad time can result in being rear-ended. This is a bad problem with drive by wire cars. As much electronics and computers are in regular ICE cars, the steering, acceleration and brakes are mechanical. And yes they can fail or human error... We get that. People crashed their cars by putting them in the wrong gear. We all do it sooner or later, usually without crashing. But it's a different thing, when the car does something on its own. Stopping, uncontrolled acceleration, steering going dead or worse going in another direction by itself. Making the cars very complicated with software creates major points of failure. Now we have cars with video game type steering. The more you turn, the more it turns the wheel. There's no rotation. It can do some pretty cool stuff that you can't do with a steering wheel. But there's no feedback. You have to trust that what you see out the windshield matches what you're doing. If that fails at 60+ mph that would be bad. Maybe the bugs will be worked out in 10 years. They have to.

Hondas my favorite brand but now no hybrid is a huge disappointment
@austinblackburn Жыл бұрын
I disagree, minivan hybrid wouldn't make sense as it currently is designed, added weight, you would loose storage room (gotta put that battery somewhere). I don't see a hybrid system adding much mpg with the current design

Ur crazy its better not having hybrid

ETA on the 2025 Odyssey review? Particularly the Elite and a breakdown of how it compares to the other trims, and a future comparison video between updated minivans (Odyssey vs Sienna vs Carnival) as well as Odyssey vs three rows (Pilot, GH, Telly)

What did you mean by the upcharge for “destination” at the end?
@CarConfections Жыл бұрын
It's like a shipping and handling fee but for cars. All vehicles have them and they're usually between $1,000-1,500

Great review Drew and Mason. What's Honda's future for the popular Odyssey Minivan?

When someone asks me what I'd recommend for the best family minivan, the first one that comes to mind is always the Kia Carnival. I often forget Honda (even Toyota at times) still make family haulers.
@ciello___8307 Жыл бұрын
I hated how the transmission of the carnival drove
@juanr.3314 Жыл бұрын
Kia??😂😂😂 the most unreliable minivan in the market
@DeadofWinter321 Жыл бұрын
@@juanr.3314 - Enlighten us. The Carnival doesn't have weak transmissions like the Odyssey. Doesn't have oil burning/consumption problems and electrical gremlins that show up before 100-120K miles like on the Sienna. And has the lowest cost of ownership compared to the Sienna, Odyssey and Pacifica 🏆

Imagine asking a friend for a minivan opinion because you can't be bothered to research the (checks notes)...4 choices.... and that person giving the advice isn't familiar with the 2 most popular models. The internet exists, yet people are still like this.

The sienna holds the top lead. Odyssey have timing belt. Sienna has timing chain. Would always go with the chain.

Nice and comfortable ride, but definitely looks dated front and back it’s like we’re stepping back in time..still buttons galore tiny screen and boring simple dash display.
