At first I was looking for an after market conversion for the arm rests, but now that I have lived with it for about a year I actually like the previous setup in my '23 RTL-E. The armrests are comfortable and I like having the space where the console lid is located.

That was a significant improvement from the tiny seat armrest. It's a pain when going on a long road trip.
@tommaj565710 ай бұрын
I couldn’t disagree more. I absolutely love not having to move my arm out of the way anytime my wife wants to get into the center console (which feels like every five minutes), especially on longer trips. I wasn’t a fan of the armrests the day I got my 2017 ridgeline, but they’ve grown on me to where I was sad seeing them disappear in this video.

I've got a '19 Sport and I love it. The 5" radio unit works well, I added a CD player, and there is nothing i would upgrade for except those safety festures and 9 speed tranny. But since it's paid off with only 15k on the clock, I'll hang on to this baby at least 5 more years. Probably longer if it continues being maintenence free. Tows my teardrop camper like a dream, too.

Great video! Nice truck! Only thing that makes me steer towards RTL over the Sport is no sliding rear glass and heated seats. If they had put that on the Sport be a no brainer for me. I love my 2020 ridgeline RTL-E. My biggest gripe with this upgrade is the center console. I love my personal arm rest on the driver seat. Not sure how I'm going to like losing that when it's time for a new one. The only other complaints are the lights, a 39k+ starting price and we can't get full LED headlights, and the continued lack of heated AND ventilated seats in the top trims. The top Pilot trims have had ventilation for at least 3 model years, where's the feature creep Honda, it's time to catch up! Excellent video as always Mike, keep up the great work.

I have a 2019 Ridge. I really like it. Was hoping Honda would change up the chassis to the current Pilot so the 2024 could get the 10 speed transmission but nope. Ventilated seats nope. I know ventilated seats are super nitpicky but once you have had them they make a huge difference in hot ass summers. I absolutely HATE the engine start stop but there is an easy kit that reverses the button so it is always off unless you want it on. I absolutely LOVE the tailgate and “trunk”. Perfect height and place for groceries. LOVE the back seat up storage capacity, can fit my mountain bike no problems. I just use a little ramp and bungee cords to secure it in place. Protip: rather than buying the honda dividers just get some dollar store cutting boards and a heat gun and you have a perfect, molded fit. Will probably be years until the next refresh so probably will go with the Pilot next time if not a Hyundai Santa Fe.

I think the maintenance requirements to change the differential fluid and transmission fluid are deal killers to me, but I would be glad to be corrected.
@martyi39810 ай бұрын
Honda's service intervals are aggressive on all their vehicles, a trusted master mechanic advised the first fluid changes are the most important after that you can be confident to go to a 60,000 mile interval, that's what I've done with my 2012 Pilot 150k miles with no issues.
@TrilithiumBanditKelsey10 ай бұрын
I'm not really sure what their deal is with transmissions... as soon as I got mine at 33k, I had a drain and fill done, because we were making a cross-country trip. At around 44k, the tranny crapped-out. It appears that 6sp. trans. in V6 AWD are these most problematic. They're using the German 9sp. now, or is it the 10sp. in-house? Who knows. What that indicates to me is some scrambling to slap something in there, and sell cars without proper testing and QC... and that's really disappointing, because that is so '80s Detroit.

I have a '21 sport. I like the arm rests, not sure about them being removed in the new model. Still doesn't have LED highbeams, its the same headlight as the other trim, not sure why they keep cheaping out on that. Another disappointment is the heater control. The sync button is massive but you have to hunt for the fan mode button which means taking your eyes off the road. Sync is much less relevant vs fan mode, especially in the winter. I wonder if they have upgraded the front radar. It has a tendency to freak out on slow downhill left turns where it sees the car in the other lane and wants to auto brake unexpectedly. Overall though it looks pretty good. I prefer the black trim instead of chrome around the doors and heated seats, rear slider, etc is just more crap that will eventually break so for me I can do without.

Unlike some I actually haul stuff like bulk mulch in mine several times a year and that 5 ft. bed just doesn't cut it. If they offered a 6ft. bed I would bet their sales would increase by large numbers even if they went to an extended cab instead of the 4 door like my Nissan has. Oh well maybe some day! If it's anything like the Pilot, the legroom for taller people might not be enough. For around town it's fine but for longer trips, you can't stretch out your legs. Just a minor nit-pick. I found this with a lot of the Honda and Acura vehicles, but I haven't tried them all.
@TrilithiumBanditKelsey10 ай бұрын
2019 RTL-E here. Transmission-failure at 44k, and a recall pending on piston-rod defect. When we first bought this thing, the hood almost flipped-up while driving through Nevada... high crosswinds... turns out there was actually a recall for that too. Also, the tailgate actuators, they're flimsy plastic which wear out or break... I've had the gate worked on twice. The recall-work for the wiring-harness inside the gate had to be done twice, it wasn't done correctly the first time. These are not the Hondas our parents owned; these new Hondas... they're over-engineered on the cheap. Also, there's no factory warranty on these things like, say, Toyota; if you buy a Honda from a non-Honda dealership, you're screwed unless you bought separate warranty. Lease, maybe; buy, no.
@JH-hz1cu10 ай бұрын
Have a 2019 with 160,000 on it… It’s been perfect. There’s absolutely a factory warranty… What the hell are you talking about? These are some of the best built vehicles on the road. It’s possible to get a lemon from any brand…but there are 1 million glowing reviews for a reason
@TrilithiumBanditKelsey10 ай бұрын
Well, there's a warranty starting with the first owner, but it's not clear... at least to me... whether it's transferable; transferability in the Tundra manual is explicit. The issues I'm experiencing are common issues... not some peculiar anomaly in a parallel universe. The recalls, are common issues; V6 6AT transmission problems, are common issues. If the wheels just fell off this thing, yeah, that's a lemon... because that'd be a singular inexplicable incident, not a common issue. I'm sure yours works fantastically taking laundry to your parents when you leave the dorm on weekends, but that's not why most folks buy a pick-up. Glowing reviews... only from review-publications who've been out of the loop for ages, or have inherent assumptions about the vehicle, or just plain shill a car or truck for advertising dollars; I can remember when Car & Driver gave the Chevy Citation... a glowing review.

@@TrilithiumBanditKelsey haha right … I actually own two properties with a working farm - so it’s been put to use quite a bit. Just because it doesn’t have a gay little lift with really cool rivets that frequents a car wash , doesn’t make it useless. 1500 payload and 5000 towing does 90% of our small chores quite well - and it’s literally used every day unlike your average pavement princess 1/2 ton that can “off road” at the Starbucks or target.

Co-worker had one (2021), and it actually tore out/off of it's plastic housing/clips. Honestly, never seen a rear (fake) step bumper on anything classified as a small truck. and my buddy is like 160 lbs . Cheapest thing I'd ever seen on $45k truck. Since I'm in the market and really like the Honda line, I'd strongly consider it, but not with that bumper.
