Took notice of a continuous line of bean-shaped crossovers crossing my path at a stoplight yesterday. A nice Porsche Macan caught my eye first, but, as the procession continued, I was reminded how numbingly similar they all are, regardless of what they cost. So, I welcome box-shaped cars. As a matter of fact, I welcome any design that takes us away from the conformity of yet another bean posing as a means of transportation.

You didn't mention any (typical) dual-clutch transmission stutters, shudders, or lurching with stop-n-go driving. Maybe Hyundai managed a trick to allow extra slippage (or flywheel damping?) for the sake of relaxed motoring in urban driving. Every DSG I have driven ONLY shifted nice when driven hard, but otherwise felt harsh and grabby when creeping in traffic or through neighborhoods.

DCT is a reliability concern in the future. Despite the warranty, good luck getting it fixed at a reasonable timeframe at the dealership. God forbid you own it past it’s manufacture warranty. I was looking forward to buying one but I’m going to wait for long term reliability reviews.

Tom, My enthusiasm for highly functional, boxy designs is as great as my distaste for DCT transmissions. With an 8 speed, torque converter automatic in the Hyundai/Kia parts bin, why did they install a DCT in this new model? 🤔

What’s the issue with dual clutches? I’ve had a couple in performance vehicles that were great, and no issues. Fords implementation was a disaster but that was their fault. I agree though I don’t know why this has a dual clutch, although it’s still better than a CVT.

Ford Flex was the exact same thing I thought when I saw a 24 Santa Fe in person. While it is a nice vehicle, I can't consider a vehicle that uses a DCT. It doesn't matter how many times they tweak those things, they just aren't compatible with our stop-and-go traffic and hilly terrain. They need to relegate the DCT to hybrid and plug-in hybrid platforms where an electric motor can cover the weakness of the DCT.
@DannerBanks9 ай бұрын
The only minor grievance is the rear taillights. But I'd still buy one in a heartbeat. I also think the pricing is a little high; competes too much with the Palisade (in price).

The interior cleverness on this vehicle is leagues about the 2021 Palisade that my partner owns (and loves). The Palisade's interior storage is abysmal in comparison so it's nice to see Hyundai took notes and made storage a higher priority for their new SUVs. Hopefully the 2nd gen Palisade continues it. Anyway, this car looks amazing and truly looks like it hangs out with Ford Flexes on the weekend.

Hi mr. Tom, would you reckon this is a better deal than the Sorento? And how palpable is the difference between this and a premium SUV (think Touareg, X5, GLE)?
@DrivenCarReviews9 ай бұрын
Only you can decide if it's a better deal than the Kia since design, interior etc are of personal taste. The Hyundai is a more useful box. The Santa Fe looks quite good inside, I think anyone worth their salt would know that the BMW and Mercedes use higher quality plastics and materials. The question is, is it worth the extra $20K. I would consider the Hyundai high value, not luxury.

1980s Euro-style, blown up to unhealthy proportions. This is a severely obese Matra Rancho. Many Italian designs of the time had an awkwardly placed thin stripe of rear lighs like Fiat Ritmo or Alfa-Romeo 75. The most functional shape is a parallelepiped, that is, a semi trailer, a rail car or a VW bus. Ultimately, it is about the usage of the available volume, so the egg-shaped 1995 Toyota's "family module", the Previa, is more functional than this tank. Even the 2000 Town & Country makes more sense. And don't get me started with the cheap tablets.
