I'll never understand d the Hyundai hate. I have a 21' Sonata with 45k miles and a 19' Kia Forte with 97k miles and I haven't had a single issue. The sonata has been the best vehicle I have ever owned. Tons of features, good gas mileage, and reliable. I'll definitely buy another Sonata next.
@jr18852 ай бұрын
It’s because they are a non luxury brand that makes throw away vehicles. That’s expected with something like a Range Rover because rich people can afford to replace them. However working class people buy Hyundai and rely on these vehicles to last a long time. More than likely your engine or transmission will fail. I’ve seen some with higher mileage but never on the original engine.
@palebeachbum2 ай бұрын
Hyundai has a sketchy reliability track record going back over 35yrs. They peaked around 2010, then started having a ton of engine problem up until very recently. I saw this as a former Hyundai and Kia owner. I bought a used 2006.5 Optima with 32k miles. I loved it, but it had a lot of stupid little problems with its features. I later bought a new 2018 Elantra. It had major problems right from the start. Engine, transmission, and suspension problems within the first 8k miles. Had the dealership just taken care of the issues without giving me grief, I could let it slide. Unfortunately, they strung me along for 3yrs and never fixed the ongoing engine and transmission issues. I ended up having to sell the car after 3yrs and 25k miles. I was so tired of being given the runaround and it wasn't safe to drive.

I can only speak for myself. My particular disdain for the brand stems from the purchase of a Excel when they first came out. Shortly after my wife gave birth to our first child . I bought her that car to drive with our new baby in tow. What we Got as a young family struggling to make ends meet with two years of absolute nightmares. Imagine you're young 23-year-old wife and your 6-month-old baby stranded not once but twice on the side of the road. I would never recommend a family member driving a Hyundai or Kia. Fool me once shame on you fool me twice shame on me. They don't get a second chance. But I'm glad for you. People deserve good cars.

'24 Sonata Hybrid Limited owner here. I've had this car for the last 4 months, and over the 7600 miles I've driven it, I've averaged around 45 mpg. I usually get between 590-610 miles on a full tank between refills that typically lasts me about 2 weeks. I could probably get closer to that 47 mpg if I drove a bit more carefully, but I'm satisfied so far. Previous car was a Stinger, and while I miss the performance I most certainly don't miss spending $50-$60 per week on fill ups.
@christyrattay5213Ай бұрын
I’ve had my 2024 Limited for almost 2 months now. I average about 44-46 mpg, and I live in the mountains where it’s uphill all the way home from work and town. I also don’t drive like a grandma on the freeway (going 75-80 depending on the speed limit of the freeway). I bet if I lived in the flat valley, and drive 65 on the freeway I’d get better mpg. But it still beats my average of 23-24 from my 2012 Sonata Limited (non hybrid)! I do a ton of driving for work, and I find that the luxury of this car makes driving so relaxing and stress free that I don’t mind the long commutes. It truly is a joy to drive.

I'm a new owner of the 2024 Sonata Limited - your videos and the comments really helped. We were going Hybrid for the fuel economy (we were spending $400 a month on gas). After the first 1,000 miles in two weeks, we are getting 48.6 MPG mainly city driving (Kids to school and activities). We do pay attention to our economy. We really like the car -I love the digital key cause I always have my iPhone. The car rides great, comfortable and very roomy for all four of us (I'm 6,1 son 5'10, wife 5'4 and daughter 5'2). Love all the tech, heated and cooled seats (have used both) heated steering wheel. Only a few minor things I would like to see changed in a an update hopefully, having to always select the drive style I would like and auto brights don't just stay on automatically. The other is flaw for the segment and that is the passenger front seat is not adjustable in height. Luckily the Sonata set there seat height well versus the Honda accord - where my wife felt like she sitting in a hole. Overall very impressed with this car. Thank you Car Confections for a great review and all you commenters for real world MPG.

Great review gents. I will say though that you're a little off when you give a negative regarding "your" fuel economy over only 150 miles of 40 mpg, but then you praise the 600 plus mile range of a full tank. @13.2 gallons in the tank, you're looking at over 45mpg if you go a full 600 miles. I think you should go a full tank and then gauge how many physical gallons you refuel with versus what the screen tells you.
@blakepadron63882 ай бұрын
I’m still scratching my head trying to figure out how they only managed 40 mpg without supposedly driving the car hard. I own a 21 Sonata and the only time I’m doing less than 50 mpg is if I’ve been doing 75+ on the highway trying to get somewhere quickly. Hell it’s been 100+ degrees here in Texas and even with the air blasting I was still getting 55 mpg. My full tank reading is always between 620 and 660. This review was definitely a disappointment in my opinion.
@JJ-xn7mr2 ай бұрын
@@blakepadron6388 Yeah, I'm wondering if part of their 40mpg was when they were videoing the interior and posing during the exterior scenes. I feel there's some obvious bias towards their Camry here. Glad they at least pointed out that a similarly spec'd Camry is well over $5k more the cost of this model, but don't forget the dealer markups, or how impossible it is going to be to find one with all the features you want.

To be fair, you guys had the car on the entire time you were filming and the engine was on so that does the Hurt the miles per gallon big time or if you pre-cooled the car before you got in it is going to make a ding in your miles per gallon . I have a 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe hybrid all wheel drive and I am currently getting 38 miles per gallon for my last tank . That is 4 MPG is above the MSRP on the window sticker. Yes I absolutely love my highbred Santa Fe not one problem in over 4000 miles.

Remote Parking, key fob activated remote start with no subscription, powered rear trunk, rear side sunshades, extra fancy 3D 360 camera, etc all for less than the Camry/Accord fwd hybrids is an amazing deal. I'd only get the Camry if I'm getting a stripped base model or if I'm gonna keep it for well over 10 years. Camry is probably the most efficient but the Sonata hybrid is at most only a few mpg lower in the real world. I do wish the sonata hybrid was a bit quicker but I think 8 seconds is still fast enough
