I agree about the shifter. When I saw you shift into Drive, my first thought was turning it that way should be for Reverse. My Mercedes has a very simple lightweight lever that is either moved up for Reverse or down for Drive, because historically that's how it would have operated. Something else that doesn't make sense is to me is, I don't see why Hyundai needs a shift stalk at all when all it has is a twist knob on the end of it. I can't see buying this version as I think when they release a new Sonata the low points of this car will have been updated.

Old school method to know the speed limit: read the road sign. What a concept! I think we are relying too much on tech to do things that we should be doing with our eyes. '... keep your eyes on the road, your hands upon the wheel.' The Doors, Roadhouse Blues.

This may have already been mentioned but I believe the Rh driveshaft is hollow, a lot of other Hyundai's have it too like the 2 litre n/a tucson ( I'm in australia ) but I'm not 100% sure what it's for, my guess was that it was to help with tourque steer instead of having a bearing and support with equal length shafts.

Amd, I love the new "recording studio garage" but I miss seeing the actual shop! What happened to the Supra with the engine that you could never get back from the machine shop? How about a shop update video from time to time? Absolutely love these videos.. you really "get into the weeds" on the technical side, and one thing I'm coming to the conclusion on with all these manufacturers chasing government emission regulations is that I hate how over complicated and expensive cars are becoming.

What is your opinion on Hyundai’s current engine longevity? What’s the risk of carbon build up, considering the choice to only use direct injection? A while back I did some reading on Hyundai’s 1.6T - the one with all of the variable valve tech - and noticed that the injectors are mounted at a nearly horizontal angle. In theory they’d be able to spray on the intake valves as a crude method of washing them with a solvent (fuel). But I haven’t been able to find a definitive “we fixed it” statement anywhere.

The front looks nice, but the rear is a bit busy. I think this beats the catfish face any day. Hyundai has improved so much over the years. A good, unique and efficient hybrid system, going more upscale, new software and interior design is beautiful, and they have great materials and isolation for the segment. Very glowing review from a Toyota Master Tech like you, so it is great to see you being unbiased and giving props to Toyota's competitor.

A great deal of time spent on the "looks" of the car which is a purely subjective opinion. The actual info on the mechanics, overall quality and the interior is in his wheelhouse. Subtract his opinions on the exterior of the car (subjective) the Sonata got a damn good review from him.
