Maybe M1 because right now the iPad just looks like a cheaper version of the iPad Air using the chip from the last gen.

Honestly speaking I think putting the A17 into the Base iPad AND the iPhone 15 would be the cheapest option for Apple; if we follow the same logic, the iPad Mini is going to get the M2 or the A18 Bionic.

Once again, we are NOT expecting an A16, we're expecting A17 Pro or A18 or an early M-chip. No new Apple device is will be released without Apple Intelligence. This means no A16. This is non-negotiable from a business standpoint. New devices without AI will not move. Apple Intelligence starts a new supercycle that will move far more units with far more profits. I'm really surprised you missed this.

Even 128gb is too small for a tablet. A cheap phone is ok to have 128gb. I realise the 128gb model is for primary school students, but they can fill it up quickly and need to keep dumping data.

The only processor they will use in 2025 lineup is the A18 for the budget products, forget the previous A17 Pro models, they are obsolete for the new AI strategy of Apple, they want to expand the use of AI to entire lineup. This is a new hardware era for apple and they can’t do the same mistake they did with this generation. It’s the first time they relegate a new software feature only on the super expensive products like iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max. They’ll release every new product on the same AI hardware base, everyone wants the AI on the own device and they know that perfectly. New features = new customers, massive costumers, the base model is the favorite chose for students.

Just like Apple came with m4 on ipad pros. They will add a18 or a18pro chips on iPad and iPad mini. This way apple intelligence can be on all ipads. Just how Apple intelligence will be on iPhones 16 series.

With the release of AI programming I think possibly iPad 11 Gen could get A17 chip because AI NEEDS that chip to run smoothly. Apple has always made sure their products run programming across all platforms, if not this would leave IPad 11 Gen out of future updates moving forward… Apple refurbished market will be nonexistent for a few years because several years of software will not support AI , unless they put 8GB of Ram and A17 inside of them or no longer support older Devices with updates. This could create a lot of devices that can’t be recycled or renewed I don’t think Apple will go against what they done with progress Zero Waste program started in 2015 .
