2024 Kerlan Award, honoring Lisa Yee

Lisa Yee, the award-winning author of more than 20 books for children and young adults, was honored with the 2024 Kerlan Award on Oct. 22 at Elmer L. Andersen Library at the University of Minnesota. Yee's books include recent titles, “Maizy Chen’s Last Chance” and “The Misfits.” The child of two public school teachers, Yee is a third-generation Chinese American. Born and raised in Los Angeles, her groundbreaking book, “Millicent Min, Girl Genius,” features one of the first Asian American protagonists in contemporary children’s literature.
