The heated seat thing on the door is not good. I use the passenger seat heater to keep carry out food warm on the way home and I can't reach the passenger door to turn it on. So does that means I have to get out of the car and go over there, open the door and turn it on?

Hi, did you find the seats to be a bit stiff and maybe uncomfortable? My wife and I found that to be the case when we test drive it in our dealership. It was the wind trim. Don't know if the land or gt trim has better seats.

I'm sure it drives great and is a really useful car around town. To be completely honest, I think that the sweet spot with range is 350 miles. Because you're going to charge it to 80% so the range in summer is more like 280 and in the winter it's about 200 (due to cold and using the heater. Even if this has a heat pump, it's still has a lot of interior to warm.) Furthermore, this thing is a brick. It's going to have a significant loss of range if one drives at over 70 mph. But it's a great first effort.
@TotallyJoel

350 miles?? Lol that would be one heavy vehicle. All we need is better infrastructure because it charges real fast. Quick charge, enough to where you need to go and thats it

@@TotallyJoel So what you’ve basically said is the thing shouldn’t exist yet. I agree. I have a Tesla M3P and a Chevy Bolt that is my daily car. If I wanted to road trip the Bolt I would absolutely go insane. There is no solid, stable charge network unless you drive a Tesla. Because of that a car has to go there and back on a charge for the time being. If Kia hadn’t engineered this to flatter people who think Cyberpunk Range Rovers are what their image needs they could have added a lot of range by making the car sleeker. But they didn’t. And so it needs more range until/if Tesla are generous enough to make Kia EV’s viable.
@davids1816

@@d.pollard5962 Which is abusive to the battery and will speed up the decline in its function far faster. An EV should absolutely last 200k miles on its original battery, but if you go 100-0 or something similar all the time, you’re going to wonder why it can’t go far on a full charge after a few short years.

Do car manufacturers employ human factors or ergonomics engineers? Apparently not, because controls keep getting more difficult to use and less integrated into the dash. Hire an ex-SAAB engineer to design the controls.

The actual port is pretty meaningless. Adapters will be cheap and maybe free. The important part is access to the supercharger network. That will happen over the year for most manufacturers. No manufacturer will put the port on before access to the network.

Wow, $65k for the base model KIA, seems like a lot of money, and our local dealers are trying to get $10k over MSRP, so with tax you're in for $80k, who can afford that? From the review, the interior controls are terrible, even a Tesla is better laid out than the Kia who decided that letting the steering wheel block the screen is good ergonomics and those touch buttons on the dash would drive most people insane. Seems the only thing Kia got right was the flip up 2nd row seat.

Please discuss the quality, or lack of quality on the inside. I went to sit in one recently and was shocked at how bad the materials where inside for the price point, I’ve used IKEA furniture that was better quality seats and interior material. At the 65k price point it’s beyond disappointing as a a Honda Pilot, Highlander, Acura MDX or many other 3 row ICE are cheaper and far superior in the quality department and for the savings you’d have to drive a lot to justify.

The cost difference is enough that I don’t think it ever makes sense, in current EVs we’re seeing the batteries degrade after approximately 100-120k miles, which for average use on a car like this is between 6-10 years. Then you’ll have to spend probably 5k+ (that’s assuming battery replacement costs will go way down) to replace the battery pack. On a Highlander or Pilot or whatever else, the engine will usually last at least double that as long as it gets somewhat regularly maintained
@andresmattos7541

what evidence you have that the materials are of bad quality in the EV9, do you have any analysis have you asked the manufacturer for the composition of every part inside out or you are just brining your bias and repeating things like a parrot? Have you seen how cheap recent honda and toyota products feel nowadays? you need glasses this EV9 has very nice materials and appearence inside and out

CR is loosing its appeal for me. The reviews seem to come from a place of mistrust, a place where "if things aren't the same as before, then they're not good" I've been watching several reviews for the past few months to see if there was a fluke. But it seems that everyone in there is struggling to see EVs as something viable

My Mazda CX9 gets less than 300 miles on a tank, especially at 70 mph. Anyone fussing over range doesn’t understand EVs or is intentionally trying to make them sound bad. The round table when they were erroneously conflating one pedal drive with regeneration makes me think they actually don’t know what they are talking about.

My concern is long term usability and durability. The Kia mechanical architecture design for the cooling of the battery, electrical motors and inverters, and of the interior of their vehicles has been excessively complicated with 2 different antifreeze coolants - one nonconducting and one standard with 3 separate radiators, an inefficient heat pump that requires additional electric resistant heating elements for temperatures just down in the teens, and an excessive number of separate control valves… a very expensive system to repair in the future. Kia hasn’t had a good track record for new technology, an example is their dual clutch transmissions. When Kia learns to simplify and make EV propulsion more efficient without massive batteries and massive price tags I will gladly accept their vehicles.

Our culture is interesting. Enormous 3 ton hogs with the aesthetics of backyard sheds are judged as if they are smartphones. Nevermind the excessive power it takes to move 3 tons. The 14 ( FOURTEEN ) hours it takes to charge on 240 volts. $65,000. All that matters is the charm of using the screen. No offense to CR. Just interesting to think about our priorities.

What is wrong with the dash? Other than the climate being behind the wheel it works and looks sleek with modern minimalism.
@jasonstewart764
@jasonstewart764 6 ай бұрын
I guess its eye of the beholder. The dash makes pretty smart compromises between the all digital of Tesla, Rivian, Volvo and the all buttons of the grandparents vehicles of the past. The only screen that is obstructed is the permanent climate touch screen which is previous vehicles was just dead space and its redundant since everything on it can either be done with physical buttons or you can still pull up a full climate screen on the main unobstructed screen or use voice. As long as there's other options I'd rather them use that space than just leave it dead.

The batt prob has a 10 year 100k warranty. I have a ‘22 Niro with 38k on it. I don’t know how the dealer is because there hasn’t been anything wrong with it. By the time the batt warranty runs out, there will likely be some new technology out better than LiPo anyway. We drive our Niro so much because we love it. The controls and all on our 2017 bolt, not so much. It does have a frunk. Other reviews show it to you. I saw on at the show and tell at the dealers before they went on sale. I found the space behind the back seats, when they were up was a little small, a little less than our T&C minivan, but our minivan didn’t have awd. I literally fit a full 4x8 sheet of plywood flat in the back of our minivan but I doubt anything new can do that….

The egmp platform that the ev9 is based on is actually very reliable and one of the best platforms on keeping the battery temps maintained. The only issue that you may come across is the 12v battery dying, which was plagued by tesla in the past as well. Warranty has always covered the issue, and some just swap out the battery to a more reliable one, like a Smart BMS LiPo battery.
