Owned the 1290 evo, loved it. Bought the 1390 evo this may, got rid of it nid june. Gearbox on 1390 has issues the 1290 never had. False neitrals all the time and no, its not me. On a 2024 S1000 XR now and couldn’t be happier😊

This is how I felt with my Kawasaki Z H2 once I got an exhaust, filter, and a tune. The first time I twisted the throttle in anger I found out that 230 horsepower and 103 ft/lbs of torque will pull the front end up in 3rd gear at 130+ mph. Needed a trouser change after the first couple times. LOL!

1390 looks like an animal of a machine. I nearly took one out when mine went in for its service but opted for the 890SMT instead. Had a 1290SDR Evo and it was brilliant, handled better than anything I’ve ever ridden and the brakes were unbelievable - BUT unusable on anything other than single A roads. Dual carriageways and motorways were miserable as. Ended up trading it in for a 1290 super adventure so I can enjoy that engine in comfort and take my son and/or wife on the back. Absolutely fantastic bike.

Not a bike I’m personally interested in but quality of the review is excellent as per usual. You have a knack for appreciating a range of different bikes and reviewing them objectively, great stuff. For me this is a bike I’d like to ride once and pee myself laughing at how ridiculous it is, but I wouldn’t own one, chronic licence loser - huge bhp and flat bars.

Great review, your enthusiasm for this particular bike is obvious! With those headlights, if Batman had a motorcycle, it would be something like this Duke. I have a 2018 Aprilia Dorsoduro 900, and the taller seat height and wider bars would seem similar to the Duke, but with a lot less hp and torque. It's a fun bike to ride, but with the thinly padded seat, would make for a poor daily driver. Keep up the good work, love watching your reviews!

The problem with the 1290/1390 is they’re like eating poutine or watching a Michael bay movie, exciting at first but becomes stale fast. As soon as you look for some refinement in the handling or in the high speed feeling, it’s not there as much as you’d like. The chassis is not anything to write home about, and the engine is exuberant to the point of undermining everything else imo.

Well, after 3 weeks 3 days riding round, mainly the north of UK, i've been back in Switz. a couple days, and spent a lot of the time catching up on YT and all i've missed from my 5 "must watch" creators during my absence here. Now i'm up to date, and i'm sat here watching a video about a KTM which I would usually say, "what an obscene bike" in a discusted voice..., but this one somehow tickles my tastbuds. Omg! What's happening to me? Whatever, i'd always go for a V-Strom or a Tiger first, before ever considering any other brand, and I think you would also take a V-Strom before anything else..., it's the feeling I get when you're on one, and how and what you say, that gives you away. But maybe i'm wrong, only you know that..... more on e-mail.

I had a gen 2 1290 and the LC8 is probably (definitely) my favourite engine. Love the SDR Evo, but don't love the price, the more sporty (wristy) riding position, the raised seat height (I rode it in 'auto low' which worked fine) and the slightly heavy clutch. I still keep looking...and maybe I'll have a massive rush of blood to the head (and other parts) and just go and get one!

I really would love to have one of these. I'm not too sure how long my licence would like it or my wallet for that matter but what a bike. Pay to unlock is a no no for me though like some car manufacturers do that I'll not name. I have to agree with your thoughts on the can though, it might not look the part but we should consider the neighbours early in the morning and late at night. Back in the day my GSXR1000 K6 had a Yoshimura can that was as quiet as an admittedly loud church mouse at idle but had an almost sinister growl to it on full beans but that had a clever exhaust valve to make it town friendly but on full tilt could wake up an owl at noon at 100 yards.

Great review, very precice and eliquent. It looks very top heavy especially with a full tank. But I wouldnt buy a Keep Taking Money, perhaps thats an unfair judgement now. KTM dont seem to be very customer friendly with the pay to unlock bs too!

Hi kate, Each to their own, I don't like modern bikes, I'll stick with my 22 year old one, which has no electronics, no adjustments, no fancy gadgets, just what I like, And modern ones have far to much to go wrong, and will go wrong, also the price of modern bikes is a joke and for very rich people only, which I'm not. Most people will laugh at my bike, but that doesn't bother me in the slightest, In my opinion it's great and does everything I want it to do. Still not much into naked bikes because I love fairings :D I l also still thinks that she's a fun bike to ride obviously. The option politic sounds like a scam since you paid for the hardware being installed but you must pay an extra for KTM to make them function after the test (addiction?) period. The fact KTM is going downhill in the stock market (they lost 2/3 of their value) doesn't go well on the trust department... video on rewatch now but I guess there won't be any surprise for the conclusion :D

@@logangodofcandy Wages here in Australia have been crap for years unless your a top professional (doctors, dentists & lawyers). $34,000.00 isn't just justifiable even with all the modern tech. Most of us Aussies riders are getting back on 1990's or early 2000's bike. The other issue here is as soon as you ride it off the show room floor, it will depreciates 20%. Unless a company buys it or leases it. Not going happen.
