Really good review. I have a 2023 carbon edition and I LOVE this car (flaws and all). It perfectly fits my lifestyle. The exterior is extremely attractive. I can see how the cladding would look out of place with certain colors. But in polymetal gray, I don't mind it at all. It blends in well. I always look back at the car when I walk away. It's such a good looking car. I've never done this with any other vehicles that I've owned. The interior puts a smile on my face every time I drive. Everything is high quality. Good amount of padding where your knees and arms will rest. High quality leather seats and steering wheel. Physical buttons for all the commonly used features. And the rotary knob to control infotainment system takes like 5 seconds to get used to. I've never used it in any other car, and now I don't want to go back to touchscreens ever again. The dial and the knobs are all laid out exactly where your hand would rest anyways. And they are of such high quality. It offers great tactile feedback and has real heft to it. Doesn't feel like cheap plastic at all. And my god does it drive great. I don't even have the turbo, yet I still smile whenever I put some ooomph into the accelerator. Excellent passing and handling power. Steering is on the heavier side with respect to its' competitors. But I really like that. Now to the cons. Agree with you about the back seat. If you have the need to carry rear seat passengers on a regular basis, I'd stay away from CX30. They won't be comfortable at all. But 90% of the time, I am in this car by myself. And it truly does shine there. And fuel economy is straight up terrible for what is supposed to be a commuter car. I wouldn't mind the mid 20 mpg that I am getting if the tank held more fuel. But I am having to fill up every 6-7 days based on my current driving habits. Mazda is seriously falling behind when it comes to hybridization and overall fuel consumption. Also, the app doesn't work half the time. It's terrible. Thankfully I'm not being forced to pay for it.......yet. All in all, this was my first Mazda and I think they've gained a customer for life. I can see now why people rave about this brand and their driving dynamics. So much so that I've already planned out the next two cars that I will buy that will be my forever cars. A CX50, hopefully with turbo hybrid engine, which is rumored to be coming soon. And a Miata as the fun weekend car.

@@donzole3180 - There is no touchscreen (that I am aware of) in the non-turbo trims for the 2024 CX-30. However, I believe that the turbo models (with the 10.25" screen) has touchscreen for Apple Car Play and Android Auto (which are also wireless). As for adding addresses: I use the Mazda Navigation and it allows to add addresses (but not on the touch screen). I assume that the Turbo models (with the touchscreen) would allow adding addresses via touch screen while using Android Auto and Apple Car Play. I have a 2022 premium plus turbo - I love the thing, I would have rather had the styling of the Mazda 3 Hatchback, but in Pittsburgh having a car that low to the ground is asking for trouble with all the potholes we get around here, and they were more expensive for the same trim and engine. Overall I love the car, it handles better than my old focus hatchback despite being 4 inches taller, and the sound system is amazing. It's very quick with the turbo, getting me from 0-60 in under 6 seconds - but the fuel economy is very very bad. I get 22 with mixed city and highway driving, sometimes lower. A sams club / Costco membership is pretty much a must have with all the gas you'll be buying. And youll be buying it often too - I only get around 200 miles a tank, so I'm filling up every week. If you want something that feels luxurious, handles well, and is zippy, but also high enough off the ground to deal with horribly maintained roads - It might be the car for you, If you can stomach the gas prices.

A friend of mine was involved in early design work for the CX-30 program. Back in 2014 Mazda favored what was essentially a CX-3 with less cladding and minor interior space bump. The design featured the floating roof, but hideous VW-like flattened wheel arches accentuated by a thin plastic lip. In 2016 work was moved to Japan where as everyone can probably predict, Hiroshima designers enjoyed a lot of preferential treatment versus California ones. I suppose this car could've looked like a Chinese EV or this, and I'd much rather this look.

I'll take bumpier roads and less space for a fun-er drivetrain and audi-like interior at the same price. I like to call the cx-30 the weekend warrior's crosstrek. We dont need a crosstrek all the time... only on saturdays to the mountain, beach etc. Mon-Fri a regular car would be fine. I dont go off-roading.. who really does? The crosstrek may be better in that sense... but lets be real 99% of driving is on the highway and that's where the CX-30 is a much better experience.

We've had Power Steering for - what - sixty years now? - and Mazda still hasn't figured it out yet. The engine is wowzers - I can really feel the power. The sound system is meh. You'll get a better one on a 10 year old Hyundai (which is what I had). Many people diss the center console disc controller - I really like it. It's easy to reach, and I far prefer it to a touchscreen. Do you like listening to radio stations? Really? Mazda doesn't think so. Go to the Owner's Manual - no helpful information there. There is some way to add your favorite radio station to the sound system, but Mazda just doesn't want you to know what it is. Do you like to keep your packages safe from prying eyes? Maybe you'd like a CARGO COVER for your CX30! They're standard in many countries and territories, but you'll find that they're missing in your USA model. My dealer never mentioned it, or ever called it to my attention. I can only hope they were too embarrassed to say anything.

@tick just search for Hydraulic Lash Adjuster. It's a very common issue on the NA 2.5's. Mazda is well aware of the issue but like every manufacturer, cylinder deactivation is a failed technology. Shame on them for such poor design. The turbo version is not prone to it as they don't have it.
@donborvio9 ай бұрын
Apparently they reworked that for the 2023 MY and added that 5HP and 2MPG in addition to fixing the issues with it.

The carbon edition is a surprisingly good bargain. The only really big feature it's lacking is a more powerful audio system (Mazda does a good job with their upgraded audio systems). If you can live without that you get a lot of bang for buck. Or... if you really really want the premium sound system you can always go with the top trim non-turbo for the same price as the carbon edition. The black rims though...

I think the Carbon Edition sound system sounds better than many cars, even a Tesla Model 3.

I love the review 👍🏻👍🏻 But there’s something to be improved if you’re gonna voiceover your video if you can make this seamless between on location sound and ADR sound that would be great. Also, the B-roll can use some stabilizations.
@Realistick9 ай бұрын
Thanks, I need more sound insulation for recording so the echo levels are similar and a better gimbal! I try to incorporate room tone so the ADR is better but even using my field mic, it’s still noticeable. Im still happy with the quality but I’ll try to improve those this year!

Excellent review. I would cross it off my list based on the high belt line (claustrophobic interior), along with memories of my Mazda MX6 long ago, (power steering failure at 17k). Mazda needs a hybrid to get my consideration these days.
@Realistick9 ай бұрын
I feel like the hybrid may come soon (probably not in the CX-30 for a few years but maybe a CX-50, redesigned CX-5, or CX-5 replacement).
@renanrobertocosta55859 ай бұрын
How’s the steering wheel on it? Cause I find my CX-30 comparably heavy with other cars. Also, I hope Mazda fixed the windshield wiper blades position; they wipe well but the position of the passenger one leaves a significant drop of water that always slides down in front of the driver, by making you wipe dry just for that. Has anyone ever noticed it? Great video though.

The nasty plastic cladding might age/fade prematurely (from debris and sunlight etc.), making the car look older and daggy before its time.
@JohnnyUkeOfficial8 ай бұрын
Mazda is going to have to make this a little bigger because the competition have started to make their subcompact SUVs bigger like the new Hyundai Kona and new Nissan Kicks that's coming out this summer and the Honda HR-V all have more room. I've always loved Mazda's but I agree, the high belt line and less than stellar rear passenger leg room makes it feel claustrophobic. Had a chance to test drive one, and although it does have stunning looks and great interior, I felt cramped. The CX-30 is still an amazing value for the price, but I can see why people overlook this particular vehicle.
@Ashbassx18 ай бұрын
I actually bought this because I prefer a shorter vehicle, as I parallel park in NYC all the time. The HRV got a little too big for that, and it’s definitely not as pleasing to drive.

I wish at least the top turbo trims were Made In Japan instead of Mexico. I also would've liked a black headliner instead. The greige headliner is just so cheap and tacky looking, not luxury like Mazda is trying to go for. It doesn't match with anything in the interior. Finally, idk why it's taking Mazda so long to make a hybrid CX-30 seeing as it's their second best selling model. How cool would a Spirit Racing CX-30 be? Mazda's own Kona N
@autofigure009 ай бұрын
A spirit racing CX-30 would just be the spirit racing Mazda3 with more disadvantages going for it (if it's truly made to be a sports car). They have the same interior space and engine, but it weighs more, has a longer wheelbase, and has higher center of gravity / ground clearance which wouldn't be ideal. given the same interior passenger space I can't see why they would bother making a performance version of the CX-30 since ground clearance and slightly larger trunk benefits of the cx-30 aren't something most people buying a sports car want.
@Unchainedmaple8889 ай бұрын
@@autofigure00 Because there are people like me who live in areas with harsh winters and shitty roads, so I need more ground clearance. Hyundai made the Kona N which reviewers and enthusiasts loved, almost no compromise to the driving dynamics despite being a crossover

A more dialed in, IRS mazda CX-30 would be a hoot but I'd sell an organ to get a Mazdaspeed 3 with a manual and awd to replace my GR Corolla.. At least they build the powertrains in Japan!
@Unchainedmaple8889 ай бұрын
@@Realistick No reason why Mazda can't do both a Spirit Racing Mazda 3 and CX-30 haha since they won't change the engine or transmission much, it's mostly just suspension, brakes, and wheels/tires. Also unfortunately the window sticker for CX-30 turbos shows that the engine is built in Mexico and transmission is built in Thailand :(

Americans are very strange - buy a huge pickup truck to drive even without passengers and cargo. Just moving massive mass and volume for your ass) I have a 10-year-old Mazda 3. I've used it to transport my family with a small child, strollers, sleds, and a scooter. I've moved houses four times with it, carrying many personal items and even furniture in the Mazda 3. It was a front-wheel-drive model from 2005, with a manual transmission. I drove it on forest roads and in snowy winters - everything was fine. The only issue was the ground clearance. The main factors are driving skills and the smart use of space, not the monster truck that marketers want to push on you.

Went to a Mazda dealership yesterday to check out a brand new CX-30. Right off the bat the car would not unlock on the driver's side after numerous "clicks". The embarrassed salesman had to go to the rider's side to reach across to open the driver''s door. We instantly ruled this car out because what even if the driver's side wouldn't have opened and with no door key option what would you do???? Reliability at mileage "0" is a major issue. I am afraid to buy any Mazda product.
@MehulSathyanarayan9 ай бұрын
The CX-30 might be a good value but it comes at the cost of tons of reliability issues and safety issue. I owned mine for 7 months and had to sell it off because of tons of battery issues, the car systems locking on me and the brakes acting funny every now and then. For a brand like Mazda which is seen to be reliable, I had a scary experience that put my life at risk and always in the fear that would the car even start up or not. Think twice before buying the CX-30. My CX-30 spent more time at the service center than with me.
@Realistick9 ай бұрын
Ouch, that's quite unfortunate, I'm sorry you've had a bad experience with mazda. Lemons really can hit any brand, the CX-30 has been a pretty solid car based off of owner reviews and common issues, more so than a lot of cars I research for these reviews. Still, I'd also have a hard time buying another car from a brand if I had a bunch of problems with the first.
@MehulSathyanarayan9 ай бұрын
@@Realistick I don’t blame Mazda as a brand for it, they are a brand that are known for their reliability, I am just very disappointed with the lack of professionalism shown by Mazda technicians about the awareness to the situation. It’s a problem that many people have faced with the CX-30 since 2021 especially the battery issue, but no real initiative or explanation has been given by Mazda or the technical people looking into these problems.
