Really sold on Mazda... they provide great value! We still have our 2014 CX-5 GT and with over 300k on it, it still runs strong, handles great in all types of weather including large amounts of snow! Sure, many times I've looked to upgrade to a newer model, but it's just been so reliable... even better than the RAV4 that we traded in on it. The ride on this model is a little firm and handles well in cornering - but may not be supple enough for some folks. Recently returned from a 3200km trip to northern Ontario and it never skipped a beat. Minor fix items over the years: Front Door Bose Speakers needed to be repaired, Front lower control arm - ball joint was worn, Blind Spot Monitor in the driver's mirror - just tapped it and it was good to go, Front Sway bar links, and then the usual brakes, tires, alignment stuff. Also, many people would say we over maintain the tranny... change fluid every 60-70K. For the engine always use sythetic motor oil every 8-9K - in the end, it basically rides and runs like the day we purchased it with 50k on it. Happy owners!!! 😊

I watched a KZbinr who was testing a '23 Mazda 3 and he commented that Mazda's paint is soft thus scratches and chips easy. Do you find that to be true or not? I am considering a CX5 next time around.

@@charlesdudek7713 You can get all kinds of waxes that are scratch resistant to fix that if that's the only thing. If you already wax your car it would be on the same footing as anyone elses needing a touch up here or there.
@JayRay61
@JayRay61 Жыл бұрын
@@charlesdudek7713 to be honest, the paint finish was quite durable on our 2014. We have the pearl white with clearcoat. I even ceramic coated it last year and of course do the regular wash and maintenance, including the paint chips touch ups due to interstate / highway travels. Currently have a chip in my windshield from a gravel truck... 😞so that will have to be repaired... perhaps a windshield changeout. I know its an older vehicle, but it keeps me coming back. The ride and handling of the GT version is just as good as it was at 50k. I also run premium Shell fuel and change the plugs every other year - easy to do and makes a difference. No oil consumption whatsoever, always use synthetic.

Mazda making suspension tweaks to a car that's on it's 8th model year just shows how dedicated they are to making the best car they can, even with their extremely limited resources. Can't imagine any other manufacturer doing this.

2024 CX-5 Signature (Canada) here. Bought this based on past reviews from them. Its fantastic. The handling and luxury are top notch. I appreciated the thoughtful and well balanced review. I agree the space in the rear seats arent class leading, but I'm nearly 6'2 and with a proper SUV driving position, my 6' son has little issues sitting behind me. My kids are older and teenagers and have no issues in the back seat. I appreciate Zach and Andrea not going all hyperbolic about the rear seats. There are other reviewers who make it seem like nobody can fit in the back seats --- and then they shove the seats all the way back to make that point. While the screen location isn't ideal, its fine to reach and the rotary dial is superb, I find i barely touch the screen while driving anyways with Android Auto enabled. Just voice control it using the button on the steering wheel. I like the fact the screen is slender and stays out of the way for the most part.

@@jonj77 They're going for a more traditional route, but they're also getting conflicted with what people want and what the vehicle is intended for. Way too many models and trims. As much as I HATE Subaru, they make no bones about what they're about, a utilitarian commuter that can get you just about anywhere if need be with trims geared towards either more commuter friendly or off-road. For instance they only offer the cx-5 with the plastic cladding (that I actually prefer) in some trims and not in others, whilst they ONLY offer the cx-50 with it. I guess one could say they suffer an identity crisis in a way.
@Tbay007
@Tbay007 7 ай бұрын
@@jonj77 Depends on what you are looking for. Obviously, if you want a hybrid option, you will have to go elsewhere unless you want the plug in hybrid version which costs significantly more. I personally love the fact that this engine doesn't use a cvt and it appears to be just as reliable as Toyota. Those two things alone is what sold me. The next things was the interior, feels very premium along with the drive. I don't drive super often, so hybrid isn't really necessary for me.

I finally went with a 2024 CX-5 Turbo Premium US trim in Eternal Blue Mica last week. I love the car! So impressed with the looks, the interior quality and the quietness. Quick and fun to drive. And I'm already used to the controller for the infotainment. The contender was the CR-V Sport Touring Hybrid which was also nice with more room and better gas mileage. In the end I went with the CX-5 because I wanted a rapid sporty compact luxury SUV that felt special and wasn't crazy expensive and the CX-5 turbo was that. The price on the Mazda was better too which was a factor. Thanks to Zach and Andrea for the reviews. I've been watching their channel for a few years and their honest perspective has been helpful to narrow down the choices.

Loved the review here...in response to comments below...Opinions vary on the differences between the cx5 and cx50 steering wheels - some reviewers claim the cx5's fatter steering wheel is the more ergonomic despite the fact Mazda is marketing the Cx50 steering wheel to be more ergonomic in design (citing the cx50 toggle switches as more ergonomic) - fact is, the switches on the cx5 are higher quality (more rugged than the toggles) while other reviewers state the overall design of the cx50 steering wheel is cost reduced compared to CX5 steering wheel, explaining Mazda needed to cut costs on the larger cx50 in order to keep the CX50 competitive - the biggest cost reduction areas of the cx50 vs the cx5 were in the rear suspension, the exterior trim, the steering wheel and in the interior materials. Overall, this driver would take either the 2024 CX5 or the CX50 over the competition - wife and I looked at both Mazdas as well as the RAV4 and CRV hybrid...wife liked the 2024 CX5 turbo in platinum quartz the best of all...smoothest, quietest, best driving and best looking in both our opinions...we feel the Mazdas currently offer the best value considering their reliability and predicted 5 year cost to own (car edge) with both the 204 Cx5 and cx50 currently being offered below MSRP in our area...and yes, we have one on order. BTW we currently drive a Honda vehicle and a Toyota vehicle and are fans of both brands - the new Mazda's as simply superior values in our minds. RE: 2.5t gas milage...most new owners report worse than EPA gas milage numbers during break-in with better than EPA milage after break in.

I’ve been driving my 2023 Turbo Signature for 9 months now. Im loving the drive and the size is perfect for urban driving and my family of three. Look back, realistically I didn’t need the turbo, since mostly I have a baby in the back seat. Some things I wish I could change: I wish the arm rest extended a bit more; I’m just short enough where my elbow doesn’t get a comfortable reach, I could back up a bit…but that throws off my seating position. And I wish the front seats were softer. It took way too long to break-in the drives napa leather seats (funny that the back seats feels a lot more comfortable than the front ones) I’v grown used to the knob for the infotainment system and can operate it very quickly…but I must say that I’m now seriously jealous of the touch screen and wireless Apple car play on the 2024 model. Sometimes in certain scenarios like zooming in and out of maps I wish I could touch the screen. Overall I’m loving my Cx5 now that I have broken it in.

I had the exact same model and could not stand the seats. The napa leather is so stiff the left bolster just dug into my under thigh. I am with you on the arm rest as well. Traded it for a cx-30 turbo premium plus. Arm rest is awesome, the turbo makes this light cross over just fly(zoom-zoom). Again have issue with the seat but not nearly as bad as signature model. I am hoping the seat calms down in time.

@@Wayneman50 Great you could switch to the CX30. I was also looking at the CX50 and CX30. I liked the driving and seat ergonomics on both those cars. The cup holder position and arm rest was perfect... but I needed somethings larger than the CX30 and wanted it to be "Made in Japan" (CX 50 is made in USA); I don't know if that makes any difference, it's more of a mental satisfaction thing for me. My CX5 Signature is coming up to a year of daily driving and had zero issues. It's handling Canadian winter well so far. The seats are broken in...or maybe I just got used to it. No back pains lol! I really hope Mazda gets their act together with their seat design.

Whoa! I got a callout here! So cool! I'll expand on the armrest thing. I had a CX9, and switched to the CX50 at lease end, and i find this new generation (the 3,cx30,cx50,cx90) have far better ergonomics in regards to the seat position, and the armrest, the cupholders, and the infotainment controls. You can totally see the difference when you compare them here. I find in the 30, 50 and 90, that your arm can rest in a more natural position, with your hand hovering nicely over the controls. On the Cx5 (and my old cx9) theres a huge gap with the cup holders between the armrest and the controls. Put a cup in the cupholder, and youll have a straw poking your wrist the whole time! 😅 Glad to see you guys like the mazdas! It is also refreshing to have a reviewer not harp on the control wheel, and instead talk about its upscale feel.

Regarding Mazda hybrid models, the CX-50 is built in the same factory as the Toyota Corolla Cross (not the same vehicles). Since the CX-50 is a recent model, it is designed for adaption of a hybrid powertrain. As for the CX-5, considering that it was released for the 2017 model year, adapting a hybrid drive to it at this point in its life doesn't make sense. The amount of changes to the platform would make more sense for an all new vehicle.

It’s interesting that people still talk about the “stuck-on” infotainment screens in vehicles, yet no one talks about BMW’s new stuck-on gauge cluster and infotainment screen. BMW does not even make an effort to mount the combo screen flush on the dashboard, and the piece of plastic holding the screen is very visible. But I guess if BMW does it, then it must be perfect.

BMW's one of the worst culprits with the whole combined wide-screen tack-on looking particularly cheap and afterthought - decidedly "un BMW" looking. I've noticed one recent BMW model (maybe others by now) adding a molded brace to make it look (only very slightly) less afterthought. If doing the wide panel treatment, Cadillac and the Koreans as a few examples, do it better. Looks to me, as a compromise to its existing set up, Mazda could easily lower--and bring forward--the positioning of the exact same center screen an inch or so (without getting into a/c ductwork interference?), bringing it closer to the driver while still being eyesight level, versus so high and far away now.

I just bought the CX30 carbon turbo. My wife and I both liked the CX5 but like your video mentioned we didn’t like the center armrest and cup holder locations. My wife is short and could not rest her arm on the armrest. Both the CX50 and the CX30 have the cup holders forward allowing for nice large armrests that butt right up to the shifter console. This allows a very comfortable position to adjust the infotainment knob and volume knob. It also makes your drinks much easier to reach. This is a very important creature comfort for your driving experience. We landed on the CX30 turbo because it is was $6000 cheaper than the CX50 turbo. We love the CX30 carbon turbo.

We actually have both the CX30 (NA) and CX5 turbo. We love both of them. My wife and I definitely wrestled with the armrest on the CX5 before we bought it; the CX30 is so well thought out in the cabin and is a great driver. But we wanted a bit more room in the hatch and overall space in the driving cabin. If we didn't need the space, I would have jumped on the CX30 turbo without a blink.

Thank you for the info! I am trying to decide between the cx30 or cx5 and these seemingly small factors make a difference in every day driving. It will be my daily driver hopefully for 10-15 years, and no kids. Still a little concerned about the visibility and limited cargo. Love the sporty look of the 30 and it just seems fun when everything else looks so generic. Any additional thoughts after having these vehicles for awhile?
@jeremiahjohnson7741
@jeremiahjohnson7741 3 ай бұрын
@@eli0151 FWIW, having both of them, I think the 30 is a more comfortable car - the seats are more of a sports car feel and you just kind of melt into the cabin. But I think the CX-5 is a more refined drive and just feels like a high dollar vehicle in the way it handles. (and does have better visibility). I have the turbo in the CX5, and although the NA 30 is peppy, the turbo is a whole different level of driving, IMO. A possible compromise and best of both worlds might be a turbo in the CX30?

I hated the thought of driving my new car 50k miles on shitty tires, so we forked up the $800 and bought a set of Michelin tires. It made a world of difference. We are empty nesters so we don’t need a lot of cargo space. I absolutely love the performance of the turbo ! I shut off the irritating lane change alarm. I don’t always signal on a lane change if there are no cars behind me. This is a horrible feature in my mind. I’m glad they allow it to be turned off. I love the CarPlay features and the control knobs. I personally don’t want to be playing with a touchscreen while I’m driving so I’m happy Mazda stuck to their guns and didn’t go to touchscreen only. Absolutely no regrets on my purchase !

I have a 2021 Carbon Turbo(Polymetal Grey). It’s a great car, luxurious interior, timeless looks, great handling, torquey motor. But some improvements are needed. Much sportier than the vanilla CRV, RAV4s, Tucson’s. No CVT! Needs an 8spd, I get 19 city, 28 hwy(75mph). Big Torqey motor but runs out of steam after 5k rpm. It feels more like a diesel motor. Firm suspension, some lean in corners but firms up once the suspension is loaded. Much sportier than the 225/55 tires suggests. Major annoyance is the steering. It has the Double fault of both slow & heavy steering during parking lot speeds!?! Mazda has this backwards! Interior feels very Audi like (understated luxury). Leather is not the best quality, but a quiet interior. Bose system has decent power with very good clarity. Comparable to the Audi B&O. Need improvements: 8sp, hybrid could really improve acceleration & efficiency. The engine has some unusual software tuning. At times, it feels responsive, inside it’s power band, then other times it’s caught flat footed, even at 3k rpm. Start using aluminum for some doors, hood(heavy), trunk, get the weight down to near 3400lbs & you don’t need to add power while gaining efficiency. At $32.5 it’s a bargain. Now it’s $38-$39k plus…getting into X1, Q3, GLA territory. These all drive better with a better drivetrains, interior.

I have a 2022( my 1st turbo car) and I've also noticed how the engine falls flat after 3-4k. At least the insane low-end torque more than makes up for it. If that was a sport car, I wouldn't like this tuning and prefer a NA engine. That's fine for a SUV.

Took delivery of my CX5 Signature last week and I’m even more impressed with its performance. I’ve been a Honda owner for the last 23 years, but couldn’t justify spending more on the CRV. I didn’t like it’s new design. Too boxy like the Pilot and Passport. The CX5 ticked all the boxes for me and the reliability is rated top notch. I keep my vehicles a minimum of 10 years and hope this will be the same with my CX 5.

Opinions vary on the differences between the cx5 and cx50 steering wheels - some reviewers claim the cx5's fatter steering wheel is the more ergonomic even though Mazda is marketing the Cx50 steering wheel to be ergonomic in design (citing the cx50 toggle switches as more ergonomic) - fact is, the switches on the cx5 are higher quality (more rugged than the toggles) while other reviewers state the overall design of the cx50 steering wheel is cost reduced compared to CX5 steering wheel explaining Mazda needed to cut costs on the larger cx50 in order to be more competitive - the biggest cost reduction areas of the cx50 vs the cx5 were in the rear suspension, the exterior trim, the steering wheel and in the interior materials overall...this driver would take either the 2024 CX5 or the CX50 over the competition - wife and I looked at both Mazdas as well as the rav4 and CRV hybrid...wife and I preferred the 2024 CX5 turbo in platinum quartz the best of all...smoothest, quietest, best driving and best looking in our opinion...and the best value given current discount pricing well below MSRP in our area...yes, we have one on order.

Biggest change - there is now touchscreen capability for Apple Carplay and Android Auto only. also, they dropped the base trim "S" package so it starts at a higher price than last year. Correct me if I am wrong but I googled Mazda CX 5 vs. Mazda CX 50, in regards to lifespan and the CX 5 has a lifespan of between 200,000 and 250,000 miles and the CX 50 has a lifespan of 80,000 miles. If that is the case, I would prefer the CX5. Now, the CX 50 might have a little more leg room in the back and a better arm rest comfortability, but the lifespan outweighs all that. Correct me if I am wrong. I am in the process of looking for a SUV that has the traditional engine without turbo and the traditional transmission. I don't have children. I am 57 and my wife 60. I have a current 2008 Honda accord, which is on its last leg. It has 270,000 miles. Looking at the fuel economy, my Honda estimates 19 mpg city, 29 mpg highway and 22 mpg combined. It looks like the Mazda CX 5 gives you 26 mpg city and 31 mpg highway. What are you alls opinions?
@larryhoffman7471
@larryhoffman7471 4 ай бұрын
No idea who would say something like that. No car manufacturer would advertise a lifespan of 80,000 miles. That’s crazy. Maybe they’re talking about how long tires are expected to last, which would make more sense. Though no tire would last for near 200,000 miles. You may have got some figures mixed up. I would think that both cars could last a long time as long as you took proper care of them. We have a 2011 Mazda3 with about 155,000 kilometres on it. It still drives and looks good. You might only get 80,000 miles on a car if you never changed the oil, and drove it under horrible conditions. But any decent car will give you years of enjoyment if well looked after.

The CX-5 does 0-60 in 6.2sec. But the real difference is 50-80 mph highway passing pulls. My parents have the older Tucson and the CX-5 pulls SO MUCH HARDER on the highway than the Tucson.

I agree with Zack. This is old? okay... but it's near perfect. Mazda just needs to make few improvements. Availability of Hybrid drive trains, some tech upgrades, more rear leg room and maybe more cargo space. But don't change this formula please. Only downside of having this SUV is small rear passenger space. Not the best option with toddlers in car seats.. i have zero interests in CX-50 and Mazda should not discontinue CX-5. They can co-exist like how Subaru sells Forester and Outback.

Hello my friends, I bought the carbon turbo zircon sand and returned it 2 days later for a signature the other day. I found the carbon seats to be too firm, the Napa leather seats are much much more comfortable. The signature to me and wife seemed larger inside, more room. Also the quality of the ride seemed much smoother and quieter than the carbon, I liked the way the carbon looked a bit better, the terra cotta/black seat look so nice. It was difficult for me to believe the two trims were the same vehicle. I'd love to have your thoughts on this...There was only one carbon and one signature, since they let me return the carbon my only option in color was eternal blue. I like the name but prefer white...I'm many miles from other dealerships but I'm thinking I may trade it for a white, maybe wait to see what the 25's will bring. I got a great deal on my trade and had a E Plan voucher which is why I made the trade of my 2018 Mazda 6 signature which I miss already and would gladly trade the cx5 for a new 6. Show less

I wish they would’ve retained it on the base model, I see in Canada they did. It kind of makes me almost want to switch to another car, not a fan of leather or leatherette seats ever.
