One thing I think wasn't covered is that Mazda has been offering incentives on their models like $750 off a CX-5GT up to $2000 off for the trims above. While the CX-50 is a handsome vehicle the CX-5 would be my choice mainly because of the Japanese build quality, the 40/20/40 split in the backrow, and larger windows for visibility out the sides.
@jeffruebens8355 Жыл бұрын
The CX-5 is more time tested and built in Japan. The CX-50 is built in Alabama, is newer, costs more, and has sportier steering. The CX-30 is built in Mexico, and is cheaper and smaller.
@rivercrossing51526 ай бұрын
Yes, but that plant in Alabama is shared by Toyota. I'm with you, but I don't know how big of a deal it is. I would prefer a Japanese build but I'm not sure it's a deal breaker. The CX-50 is definitely more stylish and a tad more practical for nature lovers...
@scoot3334 ай бұрын
@@rivercrossing5152 Mazda has acknowledged that the CX-50 is designed to appeal to a specific customer base. However, I don't consider a car with plastic cladding to be more stylish. While the CX-50’s interior may attract nature lovers, it falls short in terms of the driving experience expected during light off-roading or on rough roads. Having driven both SUVs, I found that the CX-5, with its multi-link suspension, offers a noticeably superior driving experience compared to the CX-50's torsion beam. Torsion beams are mechanically inferior to multi-link suspensions, resulting in a less smooth ride and poorer handling. The torsion beam tends to hop and skip over broken pavement and rough roads, which can be unsettling in certain situations ("to each their own i guess").

@ScottXiong2 ай бұрын
@@terencemichel8972 Sorry, nope. Manual transmission was never offered in the current, modern styling of the CX-5 in the US, and never offered for the CX-50. The last year a manual transmission was offered by Mazda for the CX-5 was in 2016 for the US, in the old, first-gen styling only, and in 2018 for Canada, in the current, modern styling. I know, because I have a 2018 CX-5 in manual transmission. Super rare.

The hybrid Toyota or Honda could be a better choice if they are more approachable. The price for RAV4 hybrid is fine but it requires an at least 18 months of waiting time. And Honda is insane that the hybrid is only equipped on the top two trims in CRV and the minimum price is same as an Audi Q3 baseline. In addition and of course, Honda’s price is non-negotiable, which makes it more expensive than a luxury brand.

Love my 2024 CX 5. It’s a unique vehicle with a great heritage that may not be in production much longer. I’m thrilled I got one. There’s not a dang thing wrong with the base engine. In fact, for urban use, it has a lot of pop. As far as the ride, if you want cushy-gushy, buy something else. If you want handling and fun, go CX 5. As far as gas mileage, the AWD Honda CRV with the base engine is rated about the same mpg. 27-32. The Mazda is 24-30. I’m getting 27 legitimate combined …20% highway 80% city with only 2000 miles under my belt. So,based on the comparison numbers and my usage, I’m spending about $10-15 / month more on gas than if I drove a CRV. Wow, that’s disgusting.

These cars are great to drive and we considered both of them for our family car but decided against both of them in favour of a Honda Passport. Problem for me with the Mazda CX-5/50 is the size for taller drivers (I’m 6’2” and the ceiling felt way too close in the driver or front passenger seat) and also a minor gripe with the placement of the cup holders. It’s done differently in both, yet terrible in both IMO. The cup holders in the CX-5 is too far back for average sized drivers like my wife and the CX-50 is too far in front such that when using taller cups, they’re liable to touch the dash. Other than that, both are really wonderful to drive. Best dynamics.

Now considering a 2024 CX-50 Meridian, but no matter how many 'reviews' I watch, not a one has mentioned anything about the cylinder activation (base engine made in Mexico) or the start/stop feature (turbo engine made in Japan). The cx90 and cx-30 are such losers in their categories, the mazda3 is too small for regular size males, the cx50 is like an elongated cheaper looking CX-5, and the CX-5 is too old in the tooth. The only thing Mazda has going for it is the Miata, and even that is such a niche vehicle... Forget about it... Two dealerships I'll never walk into for a while now: Mercedes and Mazda.
