Just a small quibble … you can always tell it’s NOT a real AMG by the oval pipes in the back. The cars built in the AMG factory have square pipes. I have this car, it’s a much closer-to-real AMG than previous 53 versions, which I think were more like tuned and upgraded versions of the standard version of the car, but it doesn’t have a hand-build engine, high performance transmission, etc. that you would find on a 63 version like the GT. That said, I actually prefer it over the ‘real’ AMG cars simply because it is a better car for driving on public highways. My E63 was a great car but it was just way too much car for daily driving, and I was never going to take my car to the track. What I really like about this car is that Mercedes had AMG widen the body, optimize the engine for those weekend drives on your favorite curvy road, and the larger size is a complete game changer over the C and E coupes that it replaces. The ‘real’ AMG cars are really quite amazing but having had both, the 53 version is ideal for actual use compared to a car that would be a lot of fun on a racetrack but is not really suited for daily use. If you’re in the market for a sport coupe, trust me that the straight 6 and torque converter transmission will do the job very effectively. If you are planning to track the car maybe hold off for the hand-built 63 version when it comes out.

Glad to read your post. Mine is in the middle of the Atlantic today. Fingers crossed it’s in my garage by mid-month. Dealer ordered car. Every option available and just over$100k.

@@MattDapson I have a feeling you are really going to enjoy your new car. It has a huge power reserve and seems to be optimized for that 40-80mph zone. I’m friends with the owner of the dealership and he let me borrow one of the new GT63s (his car) for an afternoon and to be honest there isn’t much difference in how the two cars perform (I think on a racetrack the story would be a lot different). Also, from the driver’s seat they are surprisingly similar. Not sure how I feel about that - but I guess with computers being so much a part of a new car it makes sense to use the same concepts. But I’m not sure I’d pay 2x for a car that is so similar to the CLE.

Not true anymore unfortunately. My GLA45 AMG with signed handbuilt engine, has oval pipes. Amazing car regardless.
