Definitely sounds better than stock, but I feel like Mustangs usually sound best with an X pipe, and a decent after market cat back exhaust system. Even better with headers, if you wanna go that far.

The old 4.6 sounded better with an X-pipe. These new Mustangs sound castrated, the H-pipe helps a tad, but still can’t eliminate that annoying rasp that is uncharacteristic of a Mustang. With an X-pipe it sounds like a Nissan VQ on steroids.

what is the purpose of the resonator? does it actually reduce drone or is it just an extra muffler to quiet the exhaust?

Reduce noise so Its to prevent drone and hums in the car. I did a resonator delete for my 2019 mustang gt, and honestly the drone and hum does get really annoying at times. especially in high ways or high rpm. It quite loud in my cabin. With a resonator, its definitely a lot quieter and easier to talk. Its preference. there are aftermarket resonators, that are similar to stock. but it produces more sound but keeps the cabin way quieter than putting an X pipe.

Ford actually did a decent job at making the s650 sound decent compared to the horrible sound the coyote made previously. All this exhaust mod did was add that high pitched rasp back to the car. Sounds horrible

Resonator is there to quiet down the exhaust. Adding the mid-pipe makes it louder. In previous gens, this made the exhaust sound way better. Not for this gen, it just makes it a bit louder. Weak sauce.

Why not replace the resonator with some mid mufflers and delete the axle backs, which i'm sure are heavy AF like my 06 gt mufflers. mid mufflers were the best mod i did to my 06.

Yes, this removes the resonator which is located after any emissions devices so you're good to go!
