It's a great new addition to the Speedmaster catalog. I really like it. But, yeah .. after about a week of riding off the initial hype, my head is back to wanting the white Speedy, again. Maybe if I see the new FOIS in person my mind might change again, but, I doubt it.

Great review... gave me the answer I was looking for on legibility - or lack of in certain lights. I pet peeve of mine is poor legibility. Black polish hands on a dark/black background are pointless.
@nkr11592 ай бұрын
They aren't black, only the environment they reflect is dark. The images on the Omega site are misleading too - there all hands appear uniformly bright and legible.
@samuelthomas25672 ай бұрын
You misunderstand black Polish... that refers to a highly polished surface that reflects black as you suggest. Give it a brushed finish and it will not reflect black. I don't say they are black... indeed they are clearly polished white metal.

Excellent review. When I first saw the earlier reviews of the new FOIS, I was excited. Went to the local Omega AD and saw the watch and became somewhat disappointed. I think Omega miss the mark making the dial so dark. Most of the time it looked black with very little blue. If only they had made the dial more blue than grey like JLC did with their recent release of a blue/grey dial. Also as you mentioned, some of the hands disappear at certain angles like the original FOIS. The faux patina is nice and the sapphire crystal mimicking hesalite is genius. Just not enough for me to add this watch to my 3861 sapphire Speedy. However I can see this watch being a hit for new Speedy purchasers.

I'll have mine next week, been wanting a 321 but like thiis even better - better modern movement at half the price. Also I sold my speedmaster professional a while back so it will be nice to have a speedmaster back in the herd

I really like it but just can’t get past the legibility issues. Maybe it’s because I’m an old git and the eyesight is not what it was. Do think the 9 subdial would have looked better with a white hand too. Overall though it’s a nice addition to the ever growing range of Speedys. Great review as well Oleg, even Mr. Bond was nodding in appreciation 😆

Good review! I will pass this one due to hands readability issue. I was thinking to buy the previous gen of FOIS but didn’t pull the trigger since the alpha hand is invisible at certain angles. If Omega use the hesalite the problem will be fixed but they won’t. They don’t want to impact the hesalite 3861 moonwatch. The combination of sapphire and close caseback is kind of weird.

@jameshoward97002 ай бұрын
Really good review. I figured the legibility would suffer once they used a gloss dial. Those Alpha hands are very fine (and to me always look like they came off another watch - heresy, I know!) and polished hands above a gloss (or sunray) dial tend to reflect light in the same way and self camouflage! It's a lovely watch though and quality looks high, but the legibility renders it a pass for me. I really value watches that are immediately legible and the Speedy Pro is king.

@garydoherty6002 ай бұрын
This watch is gorgeous. I dint think the lighting/angles in this video does it any favours with respects to legibility. I have the 2020 olympics blue dial speedy - the hands are rodium plated so a bit like these but all you need to do is adjust the wrist angle slightly and they catch the light and look beautifully legible. Size wise the speedy moonwatch doesn’t wear like a 42mm at all - most of that is the crown guards which you don’t see. It wears like a 40mm so I dont see the case size as any different to this.

I almost bought 10 years ago a much less expensive version of the First Omega in space, it was under 4000 dollars US new. The reason I did not buy it was I saw some receipts of overhauling the watch, which was nearly 3000 dollars US. So very expensive to service. That kind of goes with mechanical chronographs regardless of brand as they are complicated to repair. Lots of parts.

I'm completely baffled by the use of polished and highly reflective hands on anything other than a dress watch, with the legibility becoming dependent on the environment. Why can't the hands be some kind of matte or brushed silver ?!

I don’t understand what people mean when they say the watch ‘wouldn’t work as well’ without the faux patina. If the watch was an honest design it would have white hands and indices. Nothing about a disingenuous design decision improves anything - functional or aesthetic. I have to do the old Omega vs. Rolex comparison but for all Rolexes faults as a brand they would never release a watch with faux patina.

Agreed soo many great watches are ruined by it. Why anyone would want piss yellow markers over crisp white markers is beyond me
@vantage7892 ай бұрын
@@lonewolfemcquade8133 I have a BB58 and though the markers are off white I wouldn't necessarily call it faux patina. They're kinda like a cream colour. Plus the indices on the bezel look like they're going to fade to a silver/white over time. (Though I will say the faux rivets are very annoying in the same way faux patina is). But the indices on this Omega are just so obviously 'look at me I'm aged patina!' that it ruins the watch.

I think if you can't easily read the time it is not a watch but fashion accessory. And Omega should stop with that tiresome space thing. It looks more and more like an old person still boasting he once won a spelling competition in primary school. Is Omega worried Speedy is not good enough to be popular on its own merits?
@lonewolfemcquade81332 ай бұрын
I totally agree brotha 💯 I'm soo sick of the space connection it's not even funny anymore it's over done. Both Breitling and Heuer were both in space before Omega you don't see them bringing it up every 5 minutes

Not enough contrast with hands, all hands are not same colors. They almost seem out of place or mismatched compared to original Moon or even Ed White. I understand in keeping with original FOIS but it should be legible from all angles and this clearly is not. It is a smaller diameter but L2L is .5 mm longer & it’s .2 mm thicker than regular Moon! For $8K, Pass! I’ll keep my hesalite 1861! At least I can tell the time on it! lol 😂 Why not demonstrate the micro adjust on the clasp vs just talking about it and assuming its function. A miss there! 🤦♂️
