Tim, appreciate the shout out at the end of the video. The best part of Rolex not allowing you to review their products is you get a lot more time to review other brands! Always enjoy learning from your knowledge.
@the1916companywatchreviewsАй бұрын
It's definitely hurting the viewership on the show. I can't even talk about the brand for comparative purposes, cover it from a news standpoint, or mention it as part of a broader collecting feature. Hopefully, we can get past that stage of the vendor/OEM relationship soon. Best, Tim

Thanks for the shout out, Berlin was great. I tried the SMP blue one with no date, and I have to say I kind of liked the smaller and slimmer size. I hope Omega makes their watch slimmer, smaller, and less collections and special editions. Great show as always from Tim and crew.

I would love to see Omega throw some real money at thinning its movements. The engineering and financial resources are right there at Swatch Group. Honestly, I'd be happy to just see variants of the Blancpain 1315 and Breguet 777 brought over with less elaborate finishing to power Omega watches. The F385 chrono in a Speedmaster would be wild. @the1916companywatchreviews29 күн бұрын
Thanks, Jim! A full CE 42mm Moonwatch would be welcome... but a full BRACELET ceramic Moonwatch would break the internet. The waiting list would stretch to Ed White levels or more. Price would be important. I'd like to see Omega bring that to market at no more than $12,000, but I suspect it would be more with a full bracelet. Maybe cap the price at Daytona levels around $15,000. Best, Tim

Maybe in a beautiful sky blue, moonlight black bezel and black dial with date and some white gold or polished steel touches. Include a rubber and black he speedmaster moonwatch professional steel bracelet. I have the new white dial sapphire sandwich with that bracelet and it is absolutely amazing. Maybe some additional adjustment would be nice but it really doesn’t need it! I wanted the one from the big guys but I am not sure that is ever going to happen.

A thin, full ceramic with bracelet Grey Side Speedy would be absolutely perfect ❤ but it MUST be under 13.5mm thick for the real win. Unfortunately I think the retail on that would be $18k+ to which I’d understand but not sure Omegas buyers would be so keen to spend.

Cheers Tim, very interesting subject today. Respectfully, Le Mans and all, that Mazda guy has never driven a 12 cylinder Ferrari. Any vintage. Ok ✌🏽
@the1916companyАй бұрын
The Mazda definitely had volume, but I liked the 1990s Ferrari 333SP even better. First, because I remember the open cars of the period as my initiation to sports prototype racing. Second, because a punched out 4.0L Ferrari GP V12 in a Le Mans prototype sounded mental. I remember it had so much power that as late as 1998, the Kevin Doran's 333SP was catching that year's Le Mans winning Porsche 911 GT1-98 down the back straight at Road Atlanta. The Ferrari couldn't quite match the turbo Porsche out of the turns, but by the time the V12 came onto its cams at the end of the straight, only the braking zone could save the GT1. Best, Tim
@CESONERАй бұрын
Wow your memory is iron clad to remember details like that. I have a vivid recollection of my father taking me to the Concours d’Elegance at Pebble Beach every year from the very early 70s when I was barely walking and talking. I saw some of the most rare Ferraris of all different types cross that little stage by the clubhouse on the green and have heard some of the most legendary 12 cylinder Ferraris revved to red line. Blowing smoke and a little flame to show the crowd why things are what they are. No cars I’ve ever heard at any race track match those notes and tones. One car guy to another, I noticed your Oldsmobile & Buick(?) shirts lately and I’ll just say my last 2 dogs were named Cutlass Supreme and Skylark GSX. Peace ✌🏽

I think Omega is going to do more of the same as they did at the end of this year: keep rolling out special edition SMPs and Moon Watches. I don’t think anything spectacular or a different direction is coming any time soon. They’re killing it with their releases, and if they can manage to jump ahead of Cartier in sales they won’t make any bold moves.

@achuck4321Ай бұрын
Tim, you points are all correct and what we want as collectors. But Omega will not change these right now. They are capitalizing on a now-marginal cost of producing long tooth movements and designs during an economic downturn. So long as they see growth in revenue, they will not put our major changes. Not in this market.

@VegasCanuck-h2uАй бұрын
Your multi-faceted critique about Omega's 8500 movement was fully on point, Tim, especially with respect to thickness. Any update or replacement movement will need integrated chronograph and integrated GMT versions as well. They really need to do away with the modular bolt-on-tops for these functions. I actually think they are waiting for the new movement before updating their Planet Oceans, to better address the wearability issue that you raised. So it actually may not launch in the De Ville line, as one might otherwise expect.
@the1916companyАй бұрын
It's definitely time. With new developments on the movement essentially having run their course, the 8500 generation will be well remembered, but a clean slate is needed. A longer power reserve, thinner construction, and possibly a separate clean-slate chronograph with full integration of the complication -- no modular additions -- is the way to go. 16-20mm needs to be an extreme dive watch, not the average of mainstream models. You're spot-on that the Planet Ocean would be the ideal place to launch a new caliber family -- if it's profoundly slimmer than previous mechanisms. Best, Tim
