Ok, so OneCarStereo has now seen this video and have emailed me telling me that their engineers have identified an issue and they have provided me with a fix update, which I have now installed. And now I can actually set the date, and the network now works too. Woohoo. I'll do a short follow up video at some point in the near future
@suggahcane20 күн бұрын
Your date is in the past.. which will cause the SSL certificates to fail and block network traffic because the site is not secure.

Yep, this is the issue. Unfortuantley, the head unit won't allow the date to be changed, the pinned update on this video has more detail

I would personally pop the screws out of the metal cage and pop the flat metal off of it just to check and see if the WiFi antenna is actually soldered to the PCB, or if there's a bad connection to it. I see this unit has a short wire antenna on the back of the unit for the WiFi signal. Before I upgraded to my Teyes CC3 unit that has the screw-on external antenna, I had a Joying unit made in 2017 or '18 that had a wire WiFi antenna similar to the one you have, but it would only connect to 2.4Ghz networks, and it was pretty slow at the best of times, even with my phone acting as a hotspot right next to it😅
@SaabUnleashed25 күн бұрын
Well Carplay and Android Auto both work fine and use the WiFi hotspot, which is weird
@alanou25 күн бұрын
@@SaabUnleashed I think cheaper units use an "hidden" wired to wireless carplay converter which has its own Wifi ? Shame I would have loved it to work, I would prefer an unit with preouts for my 9-3 with Bose stuff.

Update 26 August 2024 - So the date was wrong, and this, as a few of you mentioned, is resulting in the lack of internet connection. However, there is an issue here. Turning off all timezone, network and location automation for the clock and date still does not allow the correct date to be set. Changing it to the correct date lasts 5 seconds before it reverts to 2nd of Jan 2024. If I activate the network time function, both the time and date correct, but only for about 5 seconds before returning to the 2nd of Jan 2024. And now I'm bored.

I think the MaxSpeedingRod one is the best budget Android head unit for music lovers at the Moment, as it has 4 sets of RCA pre outs and a Decent DSP implementation.. Front, Rear, Sub and Center channels.. it's around $150 and I think he has a Video about it.. There are a couple good mini amps that do 4 by 50 watts RMS or better out there that have both rca and speaker level inputs and are small enough to wire in behind a 2 din head unit...

I've tried a few Android head units over the years and was messing with "carputers" before that and it's almost always been WiFi connectivity problems that have caused grief. Either dropping connections or not making a connection in the first place, I wont buy one now unless it comes with a sim slot in it so i can give it it's own internet connection. I'm on my second sim enabled headunit now and it's so much better I wouldn't go back to faffing about with WiFi even for a better quality unit.

Thanks for the reveiw. The US non gifted reviews are not particularly positive. Something about not being able to set the date, TZ, and time as well as a couple of bad support and the unit crapping out after a few days. Also, this is a steel box inside a steel box inside a steel box with an internal antenna. I'm not surprised it's got crappy Wi-Fi performance. Anyway, moving on.... Oh, yeah. Here in the USA, it's $200. Not a good deal compared to say Atoto.

@@PaulLemars01 100% agree. This makes me think that their Linux version is the better product. I've read this elsewhere. If you have a moment--please help me understand how the date/time impacts android from connecting? (And how AA or CP get around this?)
@PaulLemars0124 күн бұрын
@@drgjs Basically handshaking. All our devices are synced very precisely (atomic clocks are involved) because packets need to behave via some form of synchronized protocol (can be CDM/A or TCP/IP) so they don't collide and corrupt. Usually, the first packet out of the gate on a device establishing communication is who it is and what time it thinks it is. Usually, a receiving router of some form will return an acknowledgment including a correcting timestamp and a request for a re-send with the corrected time signature. If the client device can't update its timebase the device will be ignored. I Suspect that the code stacks for Bluetooth (AA/CP) are functioning in this device but the WiFi code is borked somehow.
