Hi Alex. Thanks for another high-quality video. This device is useful, but I own old cars, so I'm looking for a different type of wireless power supply for dash cams. A better power supply for old cars would be a small box with a rechargeable battery. Placed near a dash cam, in front or back of the car, it could supply power for hours of driving, lasting perhaps a few days. When fully drained, the user takes it off its mount and charges it inside the car. I trust you'll tell us if you find this kind of device. Thanks again. -David S.

Have you ever come across a product, an in-line battery, that I can plug between the 12v socket/or-USB and the camera? I want to have a parking mode for my camera where it's always on but doesn't drain the main car battery. I'd like to be able to have the dash camera plugged into some kind of battery and that battery plugged into my car. I tried using a jump starter pack (lithium) and it does power the dash cam. However, once the car is started and power goes to the jump starter pack, it goes into charging mode and cuts power to the dash camera.
@AlexAutoFun26 күн бұрын
Hi! Yes, some people do run their dash cam off a battery pack (some do support pass thru charging). I personally don't due to the extreme temperatures the interior of a vehicle can experience (which I prefer not to subject the battery to) and due to the potential for a run away event (fire) during charging or discharging inside the car. Here is an example of a internal dash cam battery and what the sun did to it kzbin.info/www/bejne/foibm6SYocSUr7c and a video of battery related fire I personally experienced kzbin.info/www/bejne/jpe6mH1uo9pgiKM (destroyed the house) Cheers!

Thanks for the video. For the newest Wolfbox G900 Pro would I need some connector that runs from the DC output on the FitDVR power device to a USB-C connection to the cam? I am currently using the Donglar and finding the rear cam is not coming on immediately. I have to unplug and replug the rear camera from the mirror dashcam and then it comes on. Just wondering…if you think it might require the 12V or maybe just the way the FitDVR adjusts it will work. After installing one of these in my 2022 Toyota Corolla Cross the engine immobilizer system light began to flash only going off when I start the engine. I didn't even know I had an immobilizer system. Is this good, bad or of no consequence? The device powers my dash cam perfectly.
@AlexAutoFun18 күн бұрын
Hi! That is very strange, the immobilizer on vehicles usually refers to the Keys and the security system. This modules are in a totally different area of the vehicle and likely don't share circuits with the Mirror area of the vehicle (it cost more to run wires to places that are not needed, so the mirror area usually only gets power for the systems that are up there). I would have your installer check the install, maybe something else was unplugged or tampered with during the install (again this would be strange unless the installer was working in the area of the IMMO which is usually hidden behind the dash board of the vehicle). And you can also contact FITDVR for tech support, not sure if they can help but maybe worth a shot, Cheers!

If you take a look at my original review for the D50 kzbin.info/www/bejne/mofGl3mMgaiLmLs you can see the power adapter outputs 3.5A and the FitDVR I showed on the video is marked with 3.0A so not enough power (the D50 is the most power hungry dash cam I ever tested). However here is where it gets interesting, if you take a look at the hardwire kit (the link is also in that videos description) it shows 3.0A (same as the FitDVR) so it leads me to believe to think it may work and also that it may not because of the conflicting information (3.0A Vs 3.5). Most modern dash cams want a 12v feed, not a 5v. I assume you can't plug the USB A end of the cable connected to the camera, which they want you to plug into their cig adapter / 12v line, could be plugged into the USB A port here on the FitDVR because it would only be providing 5V? Or does the FitDVR have a feature that senses if the Camera plugged into the USB port wants to draw 12V, and will it let it? Otherwise you need some way of safely going from 3.5 MM DC off the FitDVR to USB C or whatever the camera needs.
@AlexAutoFun3 ай бұрын
Hi N! Notice the FitDVR has a separate DC jack for 12V (for dash cams and radars like the one shown on the video that operate at 12VDC). However dash cams are transitioning to 5VDC, out of the almost 100 dash cams I have reviewed now, only about 2-3 run on 12V (the 5V transition happened as a result of USB power becoming more abundant). But yes you can power a 12V device if desired with the adapter. Cheers!

@@NLaBruiser You're welcome! Yeah, I also believe at some point legacy brands like Blackvue and Thinkware will switch over to 5VDC from 12V but it's possible they will stick with 12v as it is cheaper to issue a simple cigarette lighter plug with a straight 12V connection than a 5VDC step down adapter, just like any industry it just comes down to cost lol.
