Superb review! I ordered an almost fully specced Cayenne Coupe e-hybrid in September last year here in Croatia, and it should be delivered in May this year. The decision was between RR Sport (hybrid) and Cayenne. First, I drove the RR, and I have to say that's the vehicle where you feel like the king of the road when you are driving. The seating position is high, the ride is very smooth, and it's quiet and relaxing, but it is still a heavy, bulky SUV, even if you put it in dynamic mode. Then I test-drove the 2024 Cayenne e-hybrid, and from the moment I sat in, I knew it would be my next car. I agree with everything you said in the review. The car weighs 2.5 tons, but you don't feel that weight at all. It's smooth and relaxing when you drive it in normal mode, and it turns almost into a 911 when you put it into Sport Plus. The sports exhaust is a must-have option. I also agree that electric power is there not as a "secondary" drivetrain but as a support to improve the main engine's performance. I drove it very aggressively for 2-hour test drive, 90% of the time in Sport Plus mode, and the consumption was 14l/100 km, which is fantastic. Driving it normally, you can probably expect

Thank you for your straight review to the Porsche PHEV. It is in the same class like my RRS P550e. You allready tested the RR P510e. Whats your opinion about these two cars? With the Cayenne you can go to beat the Nordschleife. With the Range Rover you will fly over the gravel roads in Maroc?
@morten_hannesbo10 ай бұрын
The Range Rover P510e I tested is my private car, and I'd prefer it over the Cayenne because the RR feels much more luxurious. A video comparing the two is being edited as we speak😄

Hello can you give me an advice. I am looking to buy a coupe and I don’t know should I take 21 or 22 inch wheels since I want more comfort,also would you recommend 14 way seats or 18 way seats? I usually drive 10 hours trip so seats are of big importance for me. Thank you
@morten_hannesbo10 ай бұрын
For comfort I suggest 21" instead of 22". Replacing tyres will be cheaper, too. 14-way seats are fine in my opinion.

Thanks for this great and honest review! Quick question if you ever see this; would you go for the same car without the air suspensions and rear stearing? or do you believe those are "must have" ?

Probably not - unless you have a very tight parking spot or drive offroad a lot. I could live without both.

Your claim (3:05) that Porsche didn't design this vehicle for electric-only driving is plain false. Oliver Blume himself stated that they were increasing the battery size because he knew from e-hybrid owners that they want to do most or all of their local commuting in electric-only mode. Using the electric traction battery as a boost to the ICE is *secondary*, not *primary* as you suggest here. Yes, a decade ago, Porsche introduced e-hybrids more to have that electrical boost (as with the 918 Spyder but also in the Panamera S E-Hybrid), but people buy PHEVs because they want to drive a LOT in all-electric mode. When you say you only get 40 km of all-electric range in the winter, you don't say how fast you're driving -- it makes a big difference; Kyle Conner did a range test and got 45 miles = 72 km in real-world non-highway-speed driving "around town", driving < 72 km/hr. From my experience, winter range in a PHEV doesn't drop by 45% (it drops more like 10-20%, especially if housed in a garage, and it's speed that's the bigger factor).

Hi cbatiau2528, thank you for your comment. In my opinion the Cayenne PHEV is a fine car but not the best PHEV. BMW and Range Rover are better PHEVs with much superior real life electric range. In sub-zero temperatures the Cayenne needs a lot of energy (relative to its 25.9 kWh battery size) to heat up when driving electrically and because the battery is relatively small it hurts the range. In summer this would be a different story. I have owned both a Panamera turbo s e-hybrid and a Cayenne turbo s e-hybrid and the range on those two was ridiculously low (30 km or so). I am assuming there will be a next gen Cayenne PHEV and I am pretty sure it will have a battery size of 35-40 kWh. I drove a 2023 MY Range Rover P510e back to back with the 2024 Cayenne PHEV and they have same electric vehicle consumption over a 200 km stretch of which 1/3 was highway. The difference is that the Range Rover has a 38 kWh battery giving it much more range. PS I worked with Porsche for 14 years and spent a lot of time with the product development guys and I know Oliver Blume personally.

@@morten_hannesbo Thank you for your reply. The Range Rover PHEV costs about 50% more (MSRP) at starting level; the BMW X5 PHEV has about the same range as this new E-Hybrid, I thought. (The noteworthy one is the GLE 450e, which gets 68 miles, or 110 km, of all-electric range in non-highway-speed driving, according to Kyle Conner.) My Panamera E-Hybrid gets about 80% of all-electric range in sub-freezing temperatures as in late-spring temperatures. Yes, this new Cayenne E-Hybrid seems to do worse than the RAV4 Prime does in all-electric range (bad, considering that the RAV4 Prime has a battery size about 30% smaller), but I figure that much of the loss in the Cayenne has to do with the placement of the electric motor in front of the transmission. My 2018 Panamera 4 E-Hybrid gets 24 miles (40 km) of all-electric range in non-highway driving; PHEVs are not meant/intended for driving in all-electric mode above about 40 mph (65 km/hr), as they are much more inefficient above that speed. I found that the Panamera E-Hybrids get much more range than the Cayenne E-Hybrids (of the past), which I've attributed to much better aerodynamics in the former. The Panamera also seems to get much better highway efficiency on long road trips than the Cayenne (e-hybrids), likely for the same reason. I hope that you're correct about Porsche upping their traction batteries to 35-40 kWh, which would make sense in 3-4 years (given their track record of raising their e-hybrids from 10 kWh to 14 kWh in 2017/2018, then to 18 kWh in 2021, and now to 26 kWh in 2024). It can't come soon enough for me, as I want a good PHEV that gets 50-70 miles (80-110 km) of all-electric range in non-highway driving but 30+ mpg (7.8 liters/100 km) of petrol/gasoline in long-distance driving without plugging in. I'm so frustrated that Porsche has not come out with a Macan E-Hybrid; that would be the best of all worlds, to me.

@@cbatiau2528 Thank you for your interesting comments and observations. I really like the Porsche Cayennes because they drive so well but I decided to buy the 2024 Range Rover P510e PHEV instead. The comfort level of the big Range is at another level and over 15000 km I have a petrol consumption of 4.0l/100 km including three long trips across Europe. In everyday usage the Range Rover PHEV works for me as an electric car. I drive to work and back using zero petrol - what annoyed me with the Panamera e-hybrid was the small battery and the new 26 kWh battery in the Cayenne is still somewhat small. This being said, these 2.6+ tons heavy PHEVs are a bit OTT but lovely to drive. I also drive a Taycan 4S which is a proper sports sedan and fully electric and my wife drives an Audi Q4 e-tron full-electric. I agree fully with you that Porsche should do a PHEV Macan!
