Hey guys
Welcome back to CMD and another video
Following the launch of the new Porsche Cayenne - I have been keen to drive this superb all rounder in these two variants.
Join me and Porsche Nottingham Sales Executive Tom Hale as we test drive both cars.
Which one will be most suitable for the CMD family - pure power and sound or hybrid elegance???

Perfect timing as I’m making this very decision. What I’ve also read and it’s logical is that the other difference is 400kg extra of batteries does effect handling and feel a little on the E-hybrid. However, if you have another sports car so this car will be filling the family car space then the hybrid makes a lot of sense with more advantages than disadvantages. Decision made, including air suspension and PDCC for minimal body roll!

You missed one point having owned the hybrid which is a great car, on long journeys once you have depleted the battery you are operating with 100bhp less!
@kdcyp
@kdcyp 8 күн бұрын
Yes, so when starting out on long journeys, it’s best to choose the hybrid mode (or sport mode) so you’ll always have the collective power of ICE and E- motors 😉
@stephenhinson7410
@stephenhinson7410 8 күн бұрын
@@kdcyp You won't because if you do journeys of 2-400 miles like I do the battery will deplete even with regen but you can select e charge to top up the battery whilst moving but then your MPG will drop which defeats the object. I have done 17,000 miles in mine and on long runs you miss the extra push of the 100BHP and the car feels sluggish. The other issue is that if driven mainly on electric Porsche do not advise this as the engine oil can degrade and instead of 20,000 miles between services the need to have an intermediate oil change comes upon you with a cost of £550-600 just for the oil change. I'm changing mine now to a new S Coupe but the eHybrid is still a great car. 😊

@@stephenhinson7410 ok thanks for your extra info based on experience. I thought like a mild hybrid that the battery would always keep a reserve just for heavy acceleration then run on petrol. Fortunately for me I don’t do many long journeys and our Porsche service costs here in Cyprus are more reasonable than UK. However another consideration is that you should ensure you use most of the petrol tank every month or so to avoid todays eco fuel from clogging up the engine so running on elec alone all the time isn’t feasible either. I will use it as a daily driver so should just manage that.

Twice the chance of mechanical failure for a start, then once you get bored of charging, you then just transport a heavy hybrid system around with you! Full EV or just stick with a petrol / diesel. Hybrid vehicles are just for people who want to pretend to save the environment.

Been in the motor trade 30 years, trust me most buy them for tax reasons and the small range with the hybrid is a waist of space! I ran a Mitsubishi Hybrid for 3 weeks, charging every day and drove it like Miss Daisy mpg in the late 30’s, full EV works perfect and less maintenance. Costs 2-4p per mile if you get your electric tariff on an EV rate.

@@richdevil77 Disagree. We have owned a BMW 330e for 3 years. We've done 75% of the 29000 miles on EV. Avge mpg is off the charts.

E-Hybrid models are good as far as your battery is charged. As soon as batteries go down, the overall performance of the vehicle becomes less efficient and lazy. Also bear in mind, the battery pack adds in excess of 10% extra weight to the car.

I have a Panamera 4 ehybrid and did use it a lot in electric mode until the price of electric doubled. Its now actually cheaper to run it on petrol unless I'm stuck in city traffic. My next Panamera will be a hard decision. I like the hybrid but the decision is no longer as straight forward at current electricity prices.

Thank you for the view and input Are you charging overnight in a reduced rate? I use this for my EV and find it very effective with Octoous EV
@davidowen2859
@davidowen2859 2 ай бұрын
@@CarMadDad I'm also with Octopus. We worked out at the size of our house and usage we would be worse off on the overnight tariff with the Panamera. If I had a full EV that would probably be different. At the moment I charge at work, when I charge. Its free but don't tell the tax man. So to me hybrids no longer stack up unless its relatively light weight (which the Panamera definitely isnt) and used primarily in an urban environment.

BMW X5 40d is miles better than both of them, chasing top speed in the UK is rather pointless where there are endless traffic lights, congestions and bad road conditions. Ps I have driven both Porsches and the BMW and the BMW felt so much better in many ways but the look (🤢)😂
