I completely agree some EVs are overpriced, the new Macan included. But a base Macan 4 EV with the tax credit is about the same price as a comparable ICE Macan when talking MSRP. A new Macan S is 74K base. Keep in mind the Macan EV comes standard with the panoramic roof, heated seats, heated steering wheels, air/adaptive suspension, better digital screens inside, etc. Comparably equipped they cost about the same. Especially if you lease and get the tax credit. Mind you something like a base Macan 4 EV has better real world acceleration than a Macan S ICE. Also the 100-120K versions are for the Turbo model where the Macan ICE has no equivalent anymore.

@grigorioschristodoulou52297 ай бұрын
Eeexactly, and public fast charging is stupidly expensive. And until recently you needed idiotic subscriptions, charging cards, which is pure artificial BS. Charging in mall car parks etc. is fine for now but at some point they’ll stop offering it for free or they won’t expand it when there are more EVs around (why should they pay for your charging?) Plus, insurance is becoming a huge issue, as companies refuse to repair them (for less than 40k for a scratch). Of course, that’s not an inherent EV issue, but it’s the perfect and only opportunity for the automakers to change the status quo in repairability, claiming BS like safety, cybersecurity, quality of work etc.

I'm not excited at all for EV Cayman and Boxster. The design is all wrong, it's the same design language as this new Macan and Taycan. Plus, as the folks above me mentioned, they're gonna be way too heavy (probably at least 1000lbs+ heavier than the 718's and 981's), no transmissions to speak of, no induction noise, the handling will presumably be good, but far from the Cayman we've come to know and love, and again, it's just not a very good design, in my opinion. I just saw some pics of the Boxster and it prompted an immediate groan, it barely looks like a Porsche. I haven't seen the EV Cayman design yet, but obviously, it's gonna look like the new Boxster with a roof. Can only hope Andy Preuninger is still pushing to do GT versions with ICE engines, but I doubt it'll happen. I'm hoping the sales are so poor that they'll *have* to bring back an ICE Cayman. Sure, I guess they could keep the EV version around for the few people who might actually want one, but I feel like an EV Cayman is a serious mistake. Cayman drivers are generally not the kind of people who are interested in EVs. An EV Macan is fine, I suppose, but current-day EV tech being forced into Porsche's smallest sports cars? No no no. Even with it being Porsche's engineering, I don't really think it'll make a difference. I just can't find the appeal in an EV Cayman, it's kind of an oxymoron of a car. Take a light, mid-engine sports car and turn it into yet another EV that nobody *really* wants... why is this the reality we're being forced to deal with? Makes the future of all cars seem very bleak. I would honestly rather they kill off the Cayman/Boxster and keep the 911's as their one, true sports car, IF going electric is the only way they can keep the Caymans around.
@andyg99916 ай бұрын
@@doggodproductions2259 The whole reason Porsche is going EV with the mainstream models is so they can generate enough credits to keep the 911 as an ICE vehicle. In the end, they may have no choice but to either bring back an ICE version of the Boxster/Cayman , or cease production altogether if sales are too low. I guess time will tell.
@doggodproductions22596 ай бұрын
@@andyg9991 Oh for sure, no argument there. I know they're only doing it to keep the 911 around longer, but I mean, even they are going to be hybrids now (at least, we know the non-GT 911's will be hybrids). With the Macan going full EV (with 1 or 2 ICE variants), Cayman/Boxster full EV, Taycan, etc., you'd think Porsche would already have more than enough EV credits by now, but I'm not 100% sure of how those credits work. I would've thought by making the Cayman/Boxster EV-only, they would have more than enough of those credits to at least keep the 911 ICE-only. I just keep thinking about how heavy all these new hybrid 911's will be, so we're still losing something there. You are certainly right, though, only time will tell what ends up happening with the Cayman and Boxster. It seems like they're shooting themselves in the foot by going full EV with those, and styling them like their full EV's, but maybe they've got an ICE version on the back burner in case they need to shift back. Who knows lol.

They should make it optional … one-pedal driving is superb in stop-and-go traffic and on steep inclines where you have to break a lot…. It’s important to have in a BEV because you don’t have paddle shifters like you do in an ICEV to slow down without braking

@@MurseTech64You incorrectly assume that better performance to a car enthusiast equals 0-60 times. Many driving enthusiasts prefer ICE vehicles for qualities that electric cars can’t provide. Lower weight, beautiful sounds, and the ability to run many track laps without cutting power and overheating are just a few. Additionally impatient long distance drivers prefer ICE for obvious reasons. I have several Porsches. If I bought this it would be for my wife to run errands in.

@@Closertotruth2 I'm willing to bet that the 95% of people who buy most Porsches, including this one, will never hit a track let alone do enough elapsed to overheat. Most of these dot the interstates, mall parking lots, and line Rodeo. With that said, if you want this Macan, it would easily beat most ICE Porsches in their natural habitat....at a stoplight (like the rest of us). And the majority is what Porsche cares about. This vehicle gets the most performance for most people. You doing some track days with your Porsche is great, but it's not with the majority is doing.

Both the Macan 4 and the Turbo model come with a 175 kW (peak) front motor, but differ at the rear axle. The Macan 4 is equipped with 280 kW (peak) and the Turbo with 470 kW (peak), which is crazy, because of the max. output of 480kW of the battery pack.

But can you guys be the first to also talk about the plastic off gasing in the car itself, I had my older model macan being looked at under warranty still and had a loan car for 10 days. The off gasing in the car ( Kia Sorento) was so bad i had to have 2 windows down as i was feeling quite ill from it. I feel it comes down to the materials used and the vehicle age of course. One last thing for me is more about wind noise test on the same road each time and db reading in the cabin would be great. ( yes tyre pressure/ wear and make is a factor) We have some horrific roads here in Queensland Australia. Thanks for taking the time to read this.
