Villa squad is so fresh it smells of paint more than a 24/7 makeover. We might have a few bumps while we get up to speed but we’ve dismantled a 5 year build to get champs league and gone young again as we aim to complete at a higher level for longer and into the next 4-5 seasons.

We still have a potentially leaky defence. I've my doubts about Mings--having such a serious injury at his age--, but I hope he proves me wrong. We're too light in the scoring position. Watkins gets injured,the experienced back up is not there. I think we'll finish 8-10. It's going to be a tough season. UTV

I’ve been as concerned as many other Villa fans in the past, but this season I’m kind of just putting faith in Emery and excepting the pre season is nothing but an implementation period (rightly or wrongly), we may struggle but I think we’ll come good a few games in UTMV Pete

Totally understand pre season is about fitness but we have been shopping goals quite easily.. I hope we are bang on it at the weekend or it's going to be a poor start to the season.

A very disappointing pre-season. Yes, it is about match fitness, integrating new players. However, we have looked very vulnerable, particularly in defence. I will be much happier when we get that 1st win but looking at our opening fixtures I think I might have to wait a few weeks. UTV.

A very dodgy pen Var would have chalked off and Pau falling asleep for the 2nd plus playing with no real striker, 0-2 was too bad. It was though great experience and will ready us up for what is going to be a very hard season! UTMV

Enjoyed that as ever. Yes we’ve a minority who moan at any player making a mistake but the truth is we have to concede goals, and most will involve an error. It only really becomes an issue if it’s structural….and we may well have addressed last seasons small structural issues. I’m very confident we can repeat top 4. In fact, I think we’ll better last season. There’s no team that has significantly improved, whereas I think we have increased depth and will improve quality with a couple more. Bring it on.

i dont think the Dortmund result was too bad. wasnt a pen, plus their other goal was because of a stupid mistake you dont see all too often, away from home, against champions league runners up, after a mid week game. Could easily have been 0-0 and we would have been happy with that away from home. And lie you say, it wasnt our best squad, and we have a tone of new signings settling in.

Bloody hell Peter! January, April last two weeks and May consumed the HT in Peru and for the last month in Chile! OK, showing off a bit, I am so lucky with my life and yes, back in time for Saturday, back to Worcestershire, no not in Shrek, in order to watch the Mighty HT closer to our beloved Villa Park. Email to be sent on return. Had an interesting weekend watching local football in Castro on the Chiloe Island. Tasty local derby yesterday had a brutal quality to it with a sending off and handbags at two yards. The earlier, supposedly more friendly match between another two of the local teams had two sendings off and a playing trying to flatten the ref! Was really excited at the start of last season, but I just cannot get off the downer of losing Luiz as yet. I hope im wrong but i just thknk slme fans are gonna need a reajustment this season. Last season was over performing hekped by injuries and and turmoil at other clubs, and weve lost our best player.

I haven't been impressed with preseason if I'm being honest. I know it's a good time to try out new players and tactics but we lost every game but 1, it doesn't fill me with confidence for the coming season when we play like Birmingham city if we can't have our best 11 on the field.

Preseason is not just about fitness, if it was they could skip the games and just do fitness work. It should also be about finding your form and getting your game up to the level you want to start the season with, to that end preseason has been a disappointment. We now need to find match winning form rather than taking it with us from preseason

You can’t get match fitness without match’s it’s a different prospect than playing against team mates. Would not worry to much considering who’s been missing. Ironically the late comers won’t be match fit.

Just watched the 'highlights' again , bit unfair on Cammy, he was the one who pressed the keeper then tried to move into space, it bounced to JJ who tried a pass to Cammy who had taken up space to JJs right, his pass was half decent and fair enough Cammy fluffed the finish but there were bodies flying everywhere! On another day 2 or 3 - 1 to the Villa. No bias here. Great show. Up the Villa.

Guarantee you West Ham 2 - Aston Villa 2 first game! Both teams will have a decent top 10 season, and Villa will make quarter finals of Champs League! Emery doesn't win a Trophy until his 3rd year! I'm expecting a crazy exciting season in Cups and Prem. Some great wins, disappointing losses, and a bit of a mixed bag! 😮

Love the Rooney bit. He doesn't learn, immediately coming out and critisising the players via the media. Always disappointed that my version of the Holte Enders in the sky song didn;t have the chance to be taken up. Fantastic days when Rooney managed City. Always a laugh on the Holte End about it. Watched all pre season, and i understood it's about fitness. But i haven't seen any patterns of play, formation, or a philosophy of football implemented? Just a high line and random passing movements?? Where's the normal backline, high press, pattern of passing, basics of footvall, keeping the ball, and playing beautiful football, pass, pass, pass.
