I wish the Forge World units would get a little more attention for points rebalance. I really would like to put in a Malcador, as the new plastic Solar Auxilia model is really nice. However for 5 more points, you can run a Russ and a Hydra.

At this point it feels like they're deliberately phasing out all the Forgeworld stuff unless it's absolutely necessary for a range to exist (Custodes). I fully expect when our Codex hits, all our Forgeworld stuff goes to Legends. "Malcadors are really more of a Heresy thing!" they'll say. Just like how Space Marines/CSM lost all their Heresy stuff. Or how Beasts of Chaos got squatted from AoS and moved to Old World wholesale. (I'm not saying I like it. Just I fully expect it.)

3 vanquishers just for the 2+ russ profile looking good rn

I'm seriously torn between 3 Vanquishers for cheapness and occasional hilarious big hits, or 3 Exterminators for mutual support fire and the glory of AP2 autocannons and heavy bolters... The eternal debate: More Dakka or Bigger Booms... Or the dark horse pick of the Eradicator with a couple Multi-Meltas strapped to it. Sure the main gun isn't spectacular... but charge the enemy, tank shock, and let rip with a lascannon and 2 multimeltas without any penalty to hit... I feel like that could be really gnarly against other faction's tanks that aren't quite as durable; give them a to-hit penalty while suffering no ill effects of your own.

​@mistformsquirrel the eradicator isn't terrible it's really comparable to the executioner for killing Elites since the executioner isn't set up Ideally for it anyway, with the points decrease for russes I was able to swap my eradicator for a straight battle cannon in my upcoming list since my exterminator also went down 10 points too!

Eradicators could be good too. They can fire in melee so you could park them on an objective and just blast away.

Going hoard tanks insteal of quality tanks might be a legit strat. Never used arty so the nerfs dont effect my playstyle

Dude as a new 40k player that chose guard, your videos are the absolute best. You have a way of being concise and to the point but also expanding on ideas and giving a little bit of fluff that makes it more interesting without droning on. Your painting tutorial helped a ton and your unit reviews are helping me get an idea of our strengths and weaknesses. Keep it up bud.

I think it might be time to try a Hydra out, there are a ton of units with the fly keyword and like you mentioned it's really not that hard to increase your AP. Plus honestly I just think it's funny to take your flak cannon and shoot it at people on the ground.

I've been using Hydra for a while, they shred Angron and Dante, winged hive tyrants, they are a cheap unit that hurts expensive units.

In 3 decades of being a Guard commander there have only been 2 changes that got me pissed: the name change from The Guard to astra miliatarum and the 8th Ed change to commissars. Thank you for trying to control the demoralizing behavior.

I won a 2000 point game against World Eaters with Angron last night using the new points.

Related info... My LVO list had 3 squads of Kasrkin, 2 squads of 6 Bullgryn, and a Medusa. That is something like 115 points. but my Leman Russes went down to recover 20 points. My Rough Riders recovered another 10 points. So really about 75 points final difference. I think I would have won the same number of games.

I agree, the Kasrkin change is the only significant one, I also wish it were just a 10 point increase. We had Kasrkin at 120 at the start of the edition, I used them then but not after the change to 100 points. At 120 they didn't feel quite good enough, but I was a lot more inexperienced at the time. The change I would have loved to see is a slight decrease for Cadian Shock Troops or Cadian Command Squads. Somethings got to give when its only 5 points less for a Command Squad and twenty Cadians compared to a Death Korps Marshal and twenty Death Korps. Sticky Objectives doesn't compare favourably to Grim Demeanour and the Medpack the majority of the time, but Cadia Stands is a good ability, probably better than Cult of Sacrifice, but not better than a 5+ FNP though in my humble opinion. You don't get the banner or the Vox, so maybe 60 points for the Command Squad would be ideal in my eyes, but 55 point Cadians would be the dream. Wishful thinking, probably.

To be fair, most leader characters for most factions could use a points decrease, even if by 5-10 points, but I definitely agree about at least shock troops receiving a -5 point buff

@@ecth97 My specific example is Cadian Command Squads because there are two units that parallel them. The Platoon Command Squad and the Krieg Marshal both cost 60 and are generally considered better, whereas the Cadian Command Squad is 65 points and the least used of the three. I'm whining more about internal balance rather than how good the unit actually is.

IMHO, i'm fine with the point changea, but i totally understand players being mad at point changes. I'm more frustrated that my casual guard list is affected by GW trying to balance for the competitive scene. Just my 2 cents.

If the Cadre Fireblade can be 40 points, then the Cadian Castellan can be 40. Should lower it for sure.

Attilan Roughriders are interesting at 60 points for 5, but I still think the death riders still out perform them. The 6" redeploy and infiltration abilities from the Squadron Commander make the death riders superior. Roughriders also can't take any officers besides the lord solar. Whereas the death riders can. They will eat most infantry on the charge.

GW never bothered to properly balance all the artillery options against each other. The basilisk's slowing effect would be powerful even if it didn't do any damage. And yet the Wyvern is anemic and gets outcompeted by mortar teams point for point. These three are part of the same niche. What would help if each of these three would have some special effect that would distinguish them from the others so they're always worth considering regardless of their damage output.

This changes helped some of my lists that run Russes a little, since i dont run artillery nor ogryns, and only one ran Kasrkins. I just want them to do away with the detachment... i truly dont care about artillery at all, never ran it, never will, there is no point in playing and winning games in a way you dont enjoy it. I just want a detachment rule + Stratagems that plays well with tanks, specially super heavies. Im currently running x1 Shadowsword and x1 Banesword in one of my lists, and x1 Shadowsword in pretty much all others (and tons of DKOK) ...some points drop to super heavies would also make me happy, seeing how they can barely move around with the current terrain.

you can hit one 2's re rolling 1s. cause heavy and take aim bring it to 2, and scout sentinels remove the penalty.

I think my only disappointment in this patch was seeing the FOB stay at 100 (and thats just because I really love em lol) Other than that I still think the guard is in a pretty good spot!

GW does not want any aircraft competitive. Also all Forgeworld models are slowly fading away. It’s a pretty obvious trend for some time now. I suspect the Custodes will get Plastic Grav tanks and then even their range will be retired from Forgeworld.
