There's many things that _could_ be done to bring the Deathstrike closer to the lore and imposing model, such as: 9" radius, less random shots, 2 Damage, etc. Personally I'd give the Plasma Warhead rule Mortal Wounds, as Mortals _do_ spill over, rather than Devastating Wounds. It's an ICBM that explodes with the heat and force of a miniature sun, it should hurt. The power inherent in a weapon that can reach anywhere, deny areas and force movement is pretty powerful, especially with 2D6 Mortals to _every unit_ within 6" and therefore should come with a weighty price tag: 160-180 points would ensure that it's not on every list _and_ be lore accurate.

On the difficulty to find artillery models Victoria's Miniatures has a model called the Sledgehammer artillery piece. They are a decent proxy that I magnetized the barrel (for ease of transport) and the little shell crane on the carriage support with 30 gauge steel. Really fun kit and you can get three of them with crew for $175.

Looking forward to your tak on the defense line,. They are great at screening but also at stopping/stalling charges.

As you know I love these. They have performed well for me in 9th and 10th. my best lists include 3.

Good suppliment of infantry firepower aswell. 4 autocannon shots at bs4? A simple strat to make the hits -2 ap autocannons? Lethal hits on vehicles? 85 pts?

These + Exterminator Russes = sad Custodes players

Food for thought: a HW squad is 60 points with 6 autocannon shots, but it’s got heavy and won’t get lethals against vehicles. The hydra is 15 points more at 85 with 4 autocannon shots but it has a heavy bolter, a more durable platform, can move around with shooting worse, and can get lethals against vehicles now. That’s all before the fly stuff. Not saying it’s an auto include unit but it is pretty solid

So, one thing I'd like to bring up is that artillery is really no longer a reliable damage dealing unit that can replace a Russ or something in terms of damage output on the enemy army. Its primary goal, now, is to counter sneaky tricksy units. Artillery is best used to make it so your opponent can't just sit a token unit on their home objective for fear your artillery can take them out easily. You can also use it to soften up a target staging behind some ruins, and maybe refuse their numbers enough that they can't accomplish the objective they wanted to, ie... a unit of 10 Blood Angels jump intercessors setting up to change your Russ next turn, and using your artillery to drop 3-4 of them might drop their damage output enough that your Russ survives. Stuff like that. In short, artillery has a unique ability, so don't try and use it to do the job another unit could do. Use it to create a unique capability that your army can do, that it couldn't do if you didn't have artillery.

I really want to like the hydra but it has underperformed both times I brought it, and on of those times was against Drukhari. My exterminator is just so much better. I rather compare the Hydra to armoured sentinels even if those became cheaper now. The hydra gets more shots, better rule against flyers and a tougher chassi (except the save) for just 20p more. But what it loses out on is reinforcements (not really now, would probably want to use it on something else anyway) and more importantly, ease of movement between ruins. It's bigger even if it has a higher move. Still, I prefer it over the sentinels. A tiny note for our sergeant, you mentioned the hellhound using it's flamer to negate cover. That is the guaranteed way of doing it but the hull mounted weapon can do it as well, or even the hunter killer. For this long range artillery piece it might be useful with long range support as well 😁 Just clarifying for others who might not realize that. Great video!

Hydras are awesome against Eldar. Not only is most of their best stuff fly keyword models, but wraithguard and wraithblades have 3 wounds. 3 Hydras for a mere 255pts is a steal.

Great video. Love the Hydra. So good to get some decent medium armour for 85 pts! Getting Lethals into vehicles and monsters means it has a little bit more play into non flyers than it used to earlier in the edition too It needs the AP and/or ignore cover buff synergies from hellhounds, withering hail or fields of fire but if you build into the unit it can be very effective Love it into Eldar and Necrons… especially as an anti lokhust heavy destroyer unit

"Your opponent is going to look at it and write it off." This is correct. Eldar players focus down the Rogal Dorn and Leman Russ tanks because they're a known quantity. When they reveal themselves to get shots in they get cooked by Hydras. Brining three of these is crazy cheap and you just sit them behind or amongst your armored push. They are very good supplementary firepower.

Taking out Dante and his honor guard in a single round, made this unit an auto take for me.

Great breakdown and against flying units the Hydra can be quite brutal! It does need an AP buff to really shine though, which is why I would rank the Exterminator above having two Hydras right now (currently the points are identical). However... if you are in for a vehicle heavy list, then chuck three of these in after you have your Exterminator and your Hellhounds, and you are putting some serious lead downrange and your opponent will need to choose to use their anti tank carefully.

I really like my Hydra. Taking 2. Not too many points but it can completely cripple any aircraft or fly you face.

Fun note, if you use UKTC rulings you can't fire out of ground floor (US: First floor) windows so this strategy with the sentinel and basilisk wouldn't work in that setting sadly.
